Alex Cuba starts his turn behind the Tiny Desk with the barest of musical essentials: a percussive guitar rhythm, the soft scratch of a güiro and a miniature choir. "Ciudad Hembra (La Habana)," a lament for his hometown, sets a deliberate slow burn for this performance.
Alex Cuba's superpower is his undeniable charm as he weaves evocative imagery into musical arrangements that not only call to mind his native Cuba but anywhere an acoustic guitar and engaging voice command attention. "De Camino'' offers a good case in point. Propelled by bass, drums and congas, the deeply personal love song is full of celebration — Cuba's guitar and light hand percussion remind us that we are, in fact, in the Caribbean.
"Chekere" is named for the Afro-Cuban instrument made of a dried-out gourd covered by beads used in all types of Cuban music. The song's soft beginning evolves into a percussion-inspired explosion before Alex Cuba segues into a delicate love song dedicated to his wife, "Sarah."

Villano Antillano kicked off her Tiny Desk Concert with a Britney Spears-approved message: Dump. Him.
"Yo Tengo un Novio," off the Puerto Rican rapper's debut LP, La Sustancia X, called out the toxic, controlling expectations of one of her ex-jevos. Through her sharp Caribbean flow, Antillano broke down the confines of monogamy in her first song before casting light on drug use and escapism as a means of **** survival in "Kaleidoscópica."
Throughout her performance, Antillano showed why she's one of the most exciting voices in Latin trap and reggaeton right now. She flaunted her sexual prowess on "Cuero," and "Cáscara de Coco," then intentionally honored her religious upbringing and place in the church, which she noted isn't always a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ communities. The artist keeps proving that socially conscious lyricism and unfiltered joy can — and should — go hand-in-hand.

Seit 1992 dauert nun schon die grandiose Karriere von Shaggy an. Er ist einer der bekanntesten jamaikanischen Reggae-Künstler und weltweit beliebt. "Mr. Lover Lover" ist nicht nur Musiker und mehrfacher Grammy-Preisträger, sondern auch DJ und Schauspieler.
1968 als Orville Richar Burrell in Kingston geboren, nahm Shaggy ab 1987 Gesangsunterricht und wurde im Jahr darauf entdeckt, als er mit Kumpels in der Straße sang. Doch die Gesangskarriere musste warten, denn Shaggy ging zu den US-Marines und diente auch im Zweiten Golfkrieg. Nach seiner Rückkehr startete er 1992 seine Karriere als Musiker.
Schon 1993 hatte Shaggy mit "Oh Carolina", dem Dancehall-Remix eines alten Ska-Songs, seinen ersten Welthit und wurde zum Star. Es folgten Hits wie "Boombastic", "Angel", "It Wasn't Me" und viele andere. 2018 überraschte Shaggy die Musikwelt mit dem Album "44/876", das er gemeinsam mit Sting aufnahm. 2019 experimentierte er auf "Wah Gwaan?!" mit verschiedenen musikalischen Genres.
2007 wurde Shaggy in den Rang des Commander im jamaikanischen Order of Distinction erhoben und erhielt 2022 die Ehrendoktorwürde der Brown University.
