American singer/songwriter Tynisha Keli Soares had a difficult start in life. She grew up in poverty in New Bedford, Massachusetts, a city known for its high concentration of Portuguese Americans. Her mother was forced to raise her and her brother alone after her father was murdered when she was just 9 months old. To cope with the loss, Tynisha’s mother chose to self-medicate with substances while also being physically abusive. Naturally, the children, which would eventually total to 4, were left to fend for themselves. Even as a small child, Tynisha knew a better life awaited her in the future. It just so happened that the vehicle to take her there would be music.

American rapper, songwriter, audio engineer, record producer and entrepreneur Andre Romelle Young, better known as Dr. Dre, was born in Compton, California. His first taste of the limelight came as a member of electro hip hop group World Class Wreckin' Cru during the 80’s. He would find even greater fame several years later as a member of hip hop group N.W.A. The group would release two albums before Dre decided to strike out on his own. He released his solo debut studio album titled The Chronic in 1992 on Death Row Records, a label he co-founded and co-owned. Several years after that, he left Death Row to start his own label, Aftermath Entertainment and would go on to sign several future superstars in the hip hop genre such as Eminem and 50 Cent. Even though Dre’s been hard at work since his teens building his empire, he was never too busy for the ladies.

American singer, songwriter and record producer Terius Nash, professionally known as The-Dream, was born in Rockingham, North Carolina. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his mother at the age of two. He became introduced to music in the third grade when he saw his friend playing the trumpet and that enticed him to learn as well. He would also eventually learn to play the drums and guitar. American rapper and record producer Craig Jamieson Mack was born on May 10, 1970 in the Bronx, New York and raised in Long Island. American singer, rapper and songwriter Nathaniel Hale Jr., professionally known as Nate Dogg, was born August 19, 1969 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. American music executive and multimedia producer Andre O’Neal Harrell was born on September 26, 1960 in The Bronx, New York. In 1983, Andre would meet entrepreneur, record executive, writer, and film producer Russell Simmons. Andre went to work for him at Rush Management and played a major role in building the careers for the likes of Run-DMC, LL Cool J, and Whodini. American R&B group Blackstreet was the brain child of singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and the creator of the new jack swing genre, Edward Theodore Riley better known as Teddy Riley. After the breakup of another group Teddy created, the ‘80s R&B group Guy, and while in the middle of working his magic for artists like Wreckx-n-Effect, Heavy D and Michael Jackson, he came up with the idea to start a new group featuring himself in 1991.

American Soul/R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné!, sometimes referred to as The Tonies, composed of D'wayne Patrice Wiggins, his brother Charles Ray Wiggins, also known as Raphael, and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley, were born and bred in The Bay…Oakland, California to be exact. Both D’Wayne and Raphael sang lead vocals and played guitar and bass respectively. Timothy, the more low key of the trio, shined on drums and keyboards.

American singer/songwriter Jazmine Marie Sullivan was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She began singing at the age of 3. In connection with her super Christian upbringing, one standout experience she recalls was performing a solo in front of the entire congregation at her church when she was 8 years old. Since her family were so heavily into the church, it’s no surprise that most of Jazmine’s musical influences growing up were gospel artists namely Kim Burrell and The Clark Sisters.

Steve Nichol, Jane Eugene and Carl McIntosh came together in London, England to form the British soul band Loose Ends in 1980. The group was founded by Steve after he left the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He would meet Jane at a party and, together, they decided to create a band that at one point had nearly a dozen members in it. Throughout the process, they also looked for a bass player. They tried out numerous musicians but, none of them quite felt like the missing piece of the puzzle that they were looking for. Until they met Carl McIntosh. It was a no brainer that he was the one.
