Elton John's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" (1976) became one of his most timeless classic ballads, reaching No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 6 in the UK. Sir Elton Hercules John CH CBE (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight; 25 March 1947) is an English singer, pianist and composer. Collaborating with lyricist Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums, John has sold over 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has more than fifty Top 40 hits in the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100, including nine number ones in the UK and nine in the US, as well as seven consecutive number-one albums in the US. His tribute single "Candle in the Wind 1997", rewritten in dedication to Diana, Princess of Wales, sold over 33 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling chart single of all time. According to Billboard in 2019, John is the top solo artist in US chart history (third overall), and the top Adult Contemporary artist of all time. This performance was recorded on December 18, 1978 for Dutch tv program ‘Voor de Vuist Weg”.

Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004), known professionally as Ray Charles, was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and composer. Among friends and fellow musicians he preferred being called "Brother Ray". He was often referred to as "The Genius". Charles was blind from the age of seven.
He played several times at the North Sea Jazz Festival. This is the second concert that day in 1980.

"I Got You (I Feel Good)" is a song by American singer James Brown. Recorded and released as a single in 1965, it was his highest charting song and is arguably his best-known recording.

This is the second performance of James Brown and his band, that he did during the North Sea Jazz Festival on 11 July 1981, held in the Congress center in The Hague.

This second concert is extraordinary and sees a James Brown that really gives everything to get the audience to their feet. The first concert that we published on 5 October 2017 which was recorded by AVRO Television earlier that 11th July 1981 saw a lame audience that did not know how to react. In this fantastic video we see what James Brown could do with any audience. Also this concert has a different tracklisting including a sensational 'It's A Man's World' (also on our channel) in which he pays tribute to great artists who died such as Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and especially to John Lennon, who died some 6 months earlier.

James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, dancer, musician, record producer, and bandleader. The central progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th century music, he is often referred to by the honorific nicknames "Godfather of Soul", "Mr. Dynamite", and "Soul Brother No. 1". In a career that lasted over 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres. Brown was one of the first 10 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at its inaugural induction in New York on January 23, 1986.

Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia. He came to national public attention in the mid-1950s as the lead singer of the Famous Flames, a rhythm and blues vocal group founded by Bobby Byrd. With the hit ballads "Please, Please, Please" and "Try Me", Brown built a reputation as a dynamic live performer with the Famous Flames and his backing band, sometimes known as the James Brown Band or the James Brown Orchestra. Gladys Maria Knight (born May 28, 1944), known as the "Empress of Soul" is an American singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and author. A seven-time Grammy Award-winner, Knight is known for the hits she recorded during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s with her group Gladys Knight & the Pips, which also included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and cousins Edward Patten and William Guest. “I heard it through the grapevine” was written by Norman Whirtfield and Barrett Strong. Although many people think it’s a Marvin Gaye song, it was first put on record by Gladys Knight & The Pips in 1967. Gaye however had a hit with the song, about a man who finds out his girlfriend is cheating on him, in 1968. This live performance was taped on June 11, 1976 for the Dutch program “Music All-In”.

Rising to fame in the 1980s, she achieved international success with hits like "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic” and "Because You Loved Me". Her career spans decades, earning her five Grammy Awards and global acclaim as one of the best-selling artists of all time. Dion's Las Vegas residencies redefined live entertainment, while her resilience through personal struggles continues to inspire fans worldwide. “Think Tice” was the third single from Celine Dion 's 12th album but third English language album, ”The Colour Of My Love”, after the singles "The Power of Love" and “Misled”. The song was written by Andy Hill and Pete Sinfield, who also wrote together for Bucks Fizz including their toppers: "Making Your Mind Up" and "The Land Of Make Believe". "Think Twice" is a power ballad that talks about the complexities of love and relationships. It became a huge hit in Europe. It became a no. 1 hit in Ireland (9 weeks), Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Denmark and reached top ten in Australia, Spain and Switzerland. In the UK where it also topped the charts it is still her second biggest hit there, only eclipsed by "My Heart Will Go On". It became the fifth best-selling single of 1995 in the UK, selling 696,000 copies that year alone . It sold 1.3 million in total. Although successful in Europe, it kinda failed in the US ending at no. 95 in the charts. "Think Twice" was performed live at the Grand Gala du Disc, the annual TV gala of AVRO Television in the Netherlands, on October 7, 1994.

Sylvia Striplin (March 1954 - March 2013) was a New York-based jazz, soul, and R&B vocalist. Sylvia was the youngest of five children. After a fire destroyed their home in the Sugar Hill section of Harlem, the family moved to the North Bronx in New York — there Sylvia honed her craft. Sylvia loved singing. She made up songs on the family piano and sang them around the house. She took piano lessons during her grade school years and performed in recitals. She began singing professionally with neighborhood friends Gus Falcon and Malcolm Ballinger as a teenager. After high school, Sylvia attended the City College of New York in Harlem where she was praised for her performance in the College's production of Anything Goes.
During the 1970s, Sylvia found work as a backup singer. In the late 1970s she auditioned for the role of Dorothy in The Wiz and was selected as the second understudy with the New York Company. She was eventually selected to play Dorothy in the road company production, which traveled to Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, and other cities, receiving excellent reviews along the way.
During the late 1970s, Sylvia became a member of Aquarian Dream and worked with funk, jazz, R&B, and soul vibraphonist Roy Ayers in his group Eighties Ladies. She was eventually signed to his Uno Melodic record label. where she recorded an album with him, an extended single of her own—"Give Me Your Love"—then her first solo album of the same name Give Me Your Love.
Her song "You Can't Turn Me Away," the flip side of her single and a track on her solo album, was featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, playing on quiet storm station VCFL. It was also in the romantic comedy film Prime and the mini-film Ecology of Love with Pharrell Williams. This song also served as the basis for the Notorious B.I.G./Junior M.A.F.I.A. hit, "Get Money" on Big Beat/Atlantic Records. Big Beat label chief Craig Kallman is the judge in the video of the song, which then received numerous awards. Erykah Badu also covered the song on her 2010 track "Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY)," which appeared on the album New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). "Give Me Your Love" was sampled by Armand Van Helden in "Full Moon" (featuring Common).
