Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in rural biker bars – and it shows. Her 2018 major label debut Girl Going Nowhere (Warner Music Nashville) charmed the New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, Paste, The Washington Post, and more, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist, CMT Breakout Artist of the Year, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up Never Will, released April 3, was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR, who also ranked her Top 10 RIAA Platinum-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. Produced once again by Jay Joyce, Never Will reveals the witty, confessional, detail-driven songwriting addressing a wide spectrum of blue-collar Southern women’s experience introduced on Girl Going Nowhere is still here, but perhaps even sharper, earning McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making Never Will the only album nominated for Country Album of the Year by the ACMs, CMAs and the Recording Academy in the same award season. The music itself is stadium-ready rock-and-roll with a bluegrass wink or two and country music’s storytelling heart––and McBryde, no longer new, is the music’s ordained and highly capable standard bearer. Her duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” continues to climb the charts at Country radio in the Top 20. McBryde’s This Town Talks Tour is currently underway with stops across the U.S. before wrapping in April 2022.

The single made its TV debut on the 62nd GRAMMY Awards, where Shelton was also nominated for Best Country Solo Performance for his hit “God’s Country.” The 4x Platinum smash earned the 2019 CMA Award and 2020 ACM Award for Single of the Year. As his award wins approach the hundreds, Shelton remains a force in the industry with ACM (5), AMA (3), CMA (10), CMT (11) and People’s Choice Awards (7), among many others. LYRICS:
I only talk to God when I need a favor
and I only pray when I ain't got a prayer
So who the hell am I, who the hell am I to expect a savior (Oh oh)
if I only talk to God when I need a favor
God I need a favor

I know amazing grace, but I ain't been livin them words
Swear I spend most Sundays drunk off my ass than I have at church
Hard cover King James been only saving dust on the nightstand
And I don’t know what to say by the time I fold my hands

I only talk to God when I need a favor
and I only pray when I ain't got a prayer
So who the hell am I, who the hell am I to expect a savior (Oh oh)
if I only talk to God when I need a favor
God I need a favor

Amen…Amen

I owe you more than one, and beggars can't be choosers
But I'll pay for all I’ve done just please don't let me lose her

I only talk to God when I need a favor
and I only pray when I ain't got a prayer
So who the hell am I, who the hell am I to expect a savior (Oh oh)
if I only talk to God when I need a favor
God I need a favor

Amen…Amen…Amen…Amen

Hanging in there, just barely
throwin’ up prayers, like hail mary's
If he's still there, lord spare me
Oh my God, oh my God – hail mary

Hanging in there, just barely
throwin’ up prayers, like hail mary's
If he's still there, lord spare me
Oh my God, oh my God – hail mary

I only talk to God when I need a favor
and I only pray when I ain't got a prayer
So tell me who the hell am I, to expect a savior
when I only talk to God when I need a favor
God I need a favor

Amen
God I need a favor (whoa oh)
Amen

LYRICS:
I thought by now I'd have it figured out
How not to make the easy thing so hard to do
I bet that I'd be further down this road
If I could read the signs that point me to the truth

I never planned on being nothin' but a cowboy
But somewhere I picked up this old guitar
Girl, all I can say is that I'm sorry
If I get kind of careless with your heart

All the headlights
All the midnights
Chasing all that empty, still ain't got it right
All the crazy
All the gypsy
Well I guess all I'm sayin' is forgive me
If I don't know what I'm doing
I'm still learnin' to be human

So far I've been good at burning bridges
Strike a match and ride right out of town
Bless your heart for never trying to fix me
Or quit me, or slow me down

All the headlights
All the midnights
Chasing all that empty, still ain't got it right
All the crazy
All the gypsy
Well I guess all I'm sayin' is forgive me
If I don't know what I'm doing
I'm still learnin' to be human

All the highways
Playin' outlaw
Rollin' outta nowhere with the breaks off
All the crazy
And the whiskey
Wakin' up and wonderin' what hit me
Whoa, forgive me, I really don't know what I'm doing
'Cause I'm still learning to be human
Mm, still learning to be human

LYRICS:
I was out with the boys, catchin' up at a neon light
Didn't know 'til we walked in, it was karaoke night
She was in a circle of girls, chasin' a shot with a lime
She was laughin', they were darin' her to get on the mic
One of 'em walked up and turned in her name
Next thing I knew, man, she was up on the stage, singin'

"Heads Carolina, tails California"
Maybe she'd fall for a boy from South Georgia
She's got the bar in the palm of her hand
And she's a '90s country fan like I am
Hey, I got a Chevy, she can flip a quarter
I'd drive her anywhere from here to California
When this song is over, I gotta find her
'Cause she had me at "Heads Carolina"
Yeah, she knew every word by heart, didn't need no screen, no
I was raisin' my glass up for her, I saw her smilin' at me, yeah
She had me down in the front by the end of verse two
Like there wasn't no-one else in the room, we were singin'
"Heads Carolina, tails California"
Maybe she'd fall for a boy from South Georgia
She's got the bar in the palm of her hand
And she's a '90s country fan like I am
Hey, I got a Chevy, she can flip a quarter
I'd drive her anywhere from here to California
When this song is over, I gotta find her
'Cause she had me at "Heads Carolina"
Yeah, I bought her a round, and we talked 'til the lights came on
I still see that girl every time I hear that song
"Heads Carolina, tails California"
Maybe she'd fall for a boy from South Georgia
She's got the bar in the palm of her hand
And she's a '90s country fan like I am
Hey, I got a Chevy, she can flip a quarter
I'd drive her anywhere from here to California

When this song is over, I gotta find her
'Cause she had me at "Heads Carolina"
Yeah, she had me at "Heads Carolina" (somewhere greener, somewhere warmer)
(Heads Carolina, tails California)
Yeah (somewhere greener, somewhere warmer)
(Heads Carolina)
(Somewhere together, I've got a quarter)
(Heads Carolina, tails California)

LYRICS:
We’ve been swinging and missin’
It ain’t broke yet
But damn it needs fixin’
Been awhile since your kiss felt like kissing
It’s just different
We’ve been talking bout forever
Since we’ve been together
Something bout a ring
Makes you think we’re better off with
All this
But we’re caught in

Between a rock and a hard place
Red wine and mistakes
Tears rolling down your face
When I walked out that door
That’s when I lost it
Midnight in Austin
Damn I’m exhausted
What the hell’s this all for
Is this where it mends or it breaks
Between a rock and a hard place

For the record, shit
Throwing in the towel takes some effort
So I’d rather ride it out for better weather
Together

Between a rock and a hard place
Red wine and mistakes
Tears rolling down your face
When I walked out that door
That’s when I lost it
Midnight in Austin
Damn I’m exhausted
What the hell’s this all for
Is this where it mends or it breaks
Between a rock and a hard place

We’ve been talking bout forever
Since we’ve been together
Something bout a ring
That makes you think we’re better off with
All this
But we’re caught in

Between a rock and a hard place
Tears rolling down your face
As I walked out the door
That’s when I lost it
Midnight in Austin
Damn I’m exhausted
What the hell’s this all for
Is this where it mends or it breaks
How much more of this can we take

Establishing himself as one of music’s most exciting new voices, Bailey Zimmerman strikes a sweet spot between timeless American country, rafter-rattling arena rock, and authentic storytelling. It’s why in just one year’s time, he’s already logged over 400 million global streams, notched two entries on the Billboard Hot 100, and immediately sold out his first headline tour. Growing up in the small town of Louisville, IL, Zimmerman embraced country music on long-haul truck rides with his dad, and 80’s hair rock at home with his mom. By the time he hit high school, Zimmerman learned old school American values of hard work and dependability through a gig at the local meat market and long hours on a union gas pipeline. Simultaneously, he discovered his natural musical talent and began to sing whenever there was a guitar nearby. After a garage-recorded demo of his song “Never Comin’ Home” amassed over a million plays overnight, he turned in his union card to fulfill a growing demand for new music. Zimmerman fueled his meteoric rise with anthemic singles including, “Fall In Love”, “Rock and A Hard Place”, and “Where It Ends”. Now, this young artist with the rasp of a seasoned rocker and the heart of a sensitive songwriter has arrived at the cusp of superstardom as he readies his forthcoming debut for Warner Music Nashville/Elektra Records.

Today, the Cranberries are one of the most successful alternative rock bands and IRISH bands of all-time. They have sold nearly 50 million copies of their albums. Their mix of dream pop, jangle pop, post-punk, and even Irish folk gave them a distinct sound that is often seemingly ubiquitous with the 1990s. Their success seemed unlikely- a band from a small city in Ireland that mixed heavenly pop songs with dark and often political lyrics- but their success was often driven by the undeniable commanding presence of Dolores O’Riordan, a feminist icon who filled a void in the alternative rock world that countered the grunge movement. Her influence, in particular, is not brought up enough.

While making this video I went back and revisited the Cranberries later albums, and I gotta say, they are just as good if not better than their early stuff, man . I especially recommend their final album, In the End. https://music.youtube.com/play....list?list=OLAK5uy_n6 It’s underrated. But what’s YOUR favorite Cranberries song or album? Also, which band should I cover next for this series? Keep those suggestions coming. Thanks for watching!
