Lyrics:
Oooh, ooh, ooh, ooh (Yeah)
If they gleam in the sun
While they spin and they fit on my truck then (I could remember)
And if it came in the sack
No stems no seeds in the bag then (I could remember)
And if it drip from my wrist and it look like it shine like new then (I could remember)
But ohh, girl, I forgot to be your lover
If it wasn't for the 9 to 5
Double-up overtime then (I could remember)
If it wasn't for the Sunday All-Star Weekend game, girl (I could remember)
And if it wasn't for the dough, gettin' 50 G's a show, girl, ya know that (I could remember)
But silly me, silly me, ohh
Tell me how could I ever forget to be your lover
Now I realize that you need love too (Oh, yeah)
Spend my life makin' up to you
Oh, girl
Oh, I forgot to be your lover
When she starts bringin' up old dirt
And the fights keep getting worse (Oh, brother)
Findin' numbers in her purse
Better put that woman first (Yeah)
And you notice she ain't wearin' her ring (Oh, no)
Then she starts playin' little games
Comin' in late from work
You better put that woman first
If it wasn't for the make up on my shirt
Still I'd be chasin' skirts then (I could remember)
And if it wasn't for that fight last night
You smashin' out my headlights then (I could remember)
If it wasn't for parole, steady duckin' my PO girl you know (I could remember)
But silly me, silly me, babe
Tell me how could I ever forget to be your lover
Now I realize that you need love too
Spend my life makin' love to you
Oh, girl
Oh, I forgot to be your lover
When she starts bringin' up old dirt (Bringin' up old shit)
And the fights keep getting worse (Oh, oh, oh, oh)
Findin' numbers in her purse (I'm tellin' you, brother)
Better put that woman first (You better put your woman first)
And you notice she ain't wearin' her ring (Oh, yeah)
Then she starts playin' little games (I'm-I'm-I'm-I'm tellin' you, brother)
Comin' in late from work
You better put that woman first (Put that woman first)
Actin' like it wasn't really nothin'
(So many ways) Kept to myself, always runnin'
(So many games) All that I sin
(So many words) I need you to stay
(Always came first) Even though sometimes felt like second
(Can't buy no love) You know I had to learn a lesson
(Spend some time) Put in some work
(And for better or worse) Always put that woman first
When she starts bringin' up old dirt
And the fights keep getting worse (Gettin' worse)
Findin' numbers in her purse (In her purse)
Better put that woman first (Put that woman first)
And you notice she ain't wearin' her ring (Ooh, yeah)
Then she starts playin' little games (Her little games)
Comin' in late from work (I'ma say it again)
You better put that woman first (Put that woman, put that woman first)
When she starts bringin' up old dirt
And the fights keep getting worse (She's gonna leave you)
Findin' numbers in her purse
Better put that woman first (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
And you notice she ain't wearin' her ring (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Then she starts playin' little games (Yeah, yeah)
Comin' in late from work
You better put that woman first

Yes, I am a vocal nut. But the way Stevie Ray Vaughan manipulates his guitar, he makes it absolutely sing. You all recommended I check out his cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" and I have to say, the acrobatics his guitar goes through on this one urges me to want to check out some of that source material!

Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Stevie Ray Vaughan performing "Voodoo Child" for the first time.

Patti Austin & James Ingram - Baby, Come To Me • TopPop Hotney 6 المشاهدات • منذ 4 سنوات

James Edward Ingram (February 16, 1952 – January 29, 2019) was an American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. He was a two-time Grammy Award-winner and a two-time Academy Award nominee for Best Original Song.
Ingram, an Ohio native, got his start as a musician with the band Revelation Funk and later played keyboards for Ray Charles. He was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, winning for best male R&B performance for his song "One Hundred Ways" in 1981 and best R&B performance for a duo or group in 1984 for "Yah Mo B There."
His duet with Patti Austin, "How Do You Keep the Music Playing," earned an Oscar nomination for best original song in 1983.
Ingram was also nominated for two Golden Globe Awards -- one in 1994 for best original song for "The Day I Fall in Love" and again in the same category the following year for "Look What Love Has Done."
He co-wrote Michael Jackson's hit song "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" with Quincy Jones.

James Ingram visited the TopPop studios in Hilversum, the Netherlands twice in 1983.
He performed ‘Party Animal’ from his 1983 album ‘It’s Your night’ on 28 October 1983

Earlier that year, on 19 February 1983 he performed his duet with Patti Austin ‘Baby Come To Me’ for the TopPop cameras.
"Baby, Come to Me" is a love ballad from Patti Austin's 1981 album Every Home Should Have One, sung as a duet by Austin and James Ingram. It was written by Rod Temperton (formerly of Heatwave). The song was released as a single in April 1982, peaking at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, several months later the popular American soap opera General Hospital began to feature the song heavily, as the love theme for the character Luke Spencer. The single was re-released in October 1982, and reached #1 on the chart in February 1983.

Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music • TopPop Hotney 6 المشاهدات • منذ 4 سنوات

The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band from San Jose, California. Active for five decades, with their greatest success in the 1970s, the group's current lineup consists of founding members Tom Johnston (guitars, vocals) and Patrick Simmons (guitars, vocals), veteran member Michael McDonald (keyboards, vocals), longtime member John McFee (guitars, pedal steel, violin, backing vocals), and touring musicians including John Cowan (bass, vocals), Bill Payne (keyboards), Marc Russo (saxophones), Ed Toth (drums), and Marc Quiñones (percussion).

The band's history can be roughly divided into three eras. From 1970 to 1975 it featured lead vocalist Johnston and a mainstream rock and roll sound with elements of folk, country and R&B. Johnston quit the group in 1977, and was replaced by Michael McDonald, whose interest in soul music changed the band's sound until it broke up in 1982 with Simmons being the only constant member having appeared on all of their albums. In 1987, the Doobie Brothers reformed with Johnston back in the fold; McDonald, who had previously made several guest appearances since their reformation, returned to the band full-time in 2019 for their upcoming 50th anniversary tour. Every incarnation of the group has emphasized vocal harmonies. The Doobie Brothers were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on May 2, 2020. The group has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. Founding members John Hartman and Dave Shogren, Tiran Porter, Michael Hossack, Keith Knudsen and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter are former members of the band.

In this video the line up is: Tom Johnston (guitar, vocals)
, Patrick Simmons (guitar)
, John Hartman (drums),
Tiran Porter (bass),
Keith Knudsen (drums) and Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter (guitar)

The Doobie Brothers performed on the Warner Brothers Tour in Amsterdam (Jaap Edenhall) on 29 January 1975 and visited the Toppop studios to record this song.
This Toppop recording was first broadcast on 7 February 1975.
