DJ Envy Talks Breakfast Club Replacement, Worst Interview, Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee Hotney 2 Streams • 4 years ago

Raashaun Casey, better known as DJ Envy, is a record producer and radio personality. He is one of the hosts of the syndicated radio show The Breakfast Club, alongside Charlamagne tha God on Power 105.1 in New York City.

In this interview Marco immediately confronts Envy about actually performing as a DJ. Envy defends himself and Marco asks where Envy got his name. Envy explains how the name came about. Marco continues the questions including being a little messy. Marco confronts Envy in regard to his relationship with Charlamagne. Marco continues the barrage of offbeat questions and Envy is not amused. The back and forth small talk continues and gets awkward as man dates become the subject. Envy tries to redirect the questions and Marco is not one to be duped. An impromptu comedian named “Cheating Ass Myron” comes on stage and Marco leads the audience in a less than raucous laughter. Marco dismisses the comedian and Envy shows little to no emotion. Marco continues the questions and Envy takes exception to Marco’s outfit. Marco asks what’s next and Envy talks about the origin of The Breakfast Club and what’s the future of his show. Marco asks a question and Envy talks about his fear of not having a Q-tip. The producer hands Envy a Q-tip which looks used. Marco continues the conversation and asks about his career in acting. Envy expounds. The interview continues and Marco asks Envy about the interview and Envy reveals this may be his worst interview. The producer interjects and reveals the crew did not slate which becomes awkward. Marco and Envy go back and forth and the energy is tense. A fan asks to take a picture and Envy obliges. The producer interjects and Marco masterfully wraps the interview.

The Great Guitars: Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd and Herb Ellis • 11-07-1982 • World of Jazz Hotney 1 Streams • 4 years ago

Three of the all time greatest jazz guitarists perform their unique skills on the guitar:

Barney Kessel, born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA on October 17, 1923 was known for his chord-based melodies and was a prolific member of the so-called ‘Wrecking Crew’ group of musicians that accompanied and played on records as diverse as The Mamas & Papas, Sonny & Cher and The Beach Boys.
He was voted best guitarist in Down Beat Magazine in 1956, 1957 and 1958 and recorded numerous albums. The Gibson Guitar Corporation introduced the Barney Kessel model guitar in 1961 to honour his skills. Barney died on May 6, 2004.

Herb Ellis was an American guitarist who probably was best known as member of Oscar Peterson’s Trio in the 1950’s. He was born on August 4, 1921 as Mitchell Herbert Ellis. He played with Jimmy Dorsey’s band and played on numerous Verve records supporting jazz giants like Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Herb died on March 20, 2010.

Charlie Byrd was one of America’s greatest guitarists. Born on September 16, 1925 in Suffolk, Virginia, he was strongly influenced by Django Reinhardt’s style and Brazilian bossa nova.
He played in Woody Herman’s band in the late 1950’s and recorded ‘Jazz Samba’ with Stan Getz. Also he recorded the famous bossa nova albums with João Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Byrd died on December 2, 1999.

The three great guitarists are accompanied by Joe Byrd, Charlie’s brother, on bass and Chuch Redd on drums

The repertoire included:

• "It's the talk of the town" by Marty Symes, Al J. Nieburg, Jerry Livingston;
• "Undecided" by Sid Robin, Charlie Shavers;
• "A felicidade" by Vinicius de Moraes, Antonio Carlos Jobim;
• "Manha de carnaval" by Antonio Mariz, Luis Bonfá;
• "Nuages" by Django Reinhardt;
• "Goin' out of my head" by Teddy Randazzo, Bobby Weinstein;
• "Flyin' home" by Sid Robin, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman.

The concert was taped on 17 July 1982 in the Congress Gebouw, The Hague, The Netherlands during the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Unique Mecca Audio on Being Drug Kingpin, Michael Jackson, Biggie, Rich & Azie (Full Interview) Hotney 5 Streams • 4 years ago

In this full-length interview, Unique Mecca Audio starts by speaking to a VladTV correspondent about being the cousin of famed activist Marcus Garvey. Hall explained that while he saw photos of Marcus at his grandparents’ home in Jamaica, he didn’t put the pieces together until he came to the U.S. From there, Hall spoke about growing up in Kingston, Jamaica. He explained that he didn’t get his first pair of shoes until he moved to America. Unique then shared stories about seeing police in Jamaica riding on horseback and handcuffing people with rope, like in the Western movies he was watching as a kid. He then explained that the only people to look up to when he was a kid were the criminals.

Moving along, Unique Mecca Audio spoke about getting in the streets, and he explained that when he was in Jamaica, he didn’t realize that the street guys were making money illegally. Unique explained that he was being told that money was literally growing on trees, and he added that he was a “child soldier.” He went on to speak about seeing violence with his "posse" in the USA. Later, Unique Mecca Audio details the dangerous political environment while growing up in Jamaica. He explained to Cavario that in the 1970s, former Prime Minister Michael Manley was “building up” Jamaica with shanty houses. When there were two parties in Jamaica, Hall explained that things got violent as the two sides faced off.

As the Q&A session moves along, Unique Mecca Audio goes in-depth about his criminal empire, working with his brothers in the drug game, and expanding his business from New York to places such as Virginia and Florida. He also talks about the street politics involved with various territories in NYC between his empire, the Cali Cartel, and Dominican criminal organizations.

Moving along, Unique's brother, Big Boosie, makes an appearance to reflect on what he learned from the drug game and the rap game before previewing his upcoming documentary. Lastly, Unique Mecca Audio touches on his connection to the music industry, his friendship with the late 2Pac, working with Pete Rock for the first time, and how he started the "hey-ho" chant that Naughty By Nature Made Famous. He also speaks on doing business with Diddy and Biggie's passing before reflecting on the clothing line and record label he started before he got locked up.
