Lyrics:
At first I saw you at the store
You looking cold and keepin’ warm
I wrote my number on the stall
I never figured you would call

Baby baby aw don’t leave me baby
Baby baby only lately maybe
I’ve been dreamin’ of ya
Aw don’t leave me mumma

Going Kokomo
Our life’s a beach so let’s let go
Don’t stress yourself
Might even play this on the radio

So unaware I heard it ring
To pick it up you surprised me
Your many voices sound so sweet
I wanna pick you till you bleed

Oh baby baby aw don’t leave me baby
Baby baby only lately maybe
I’ve been dreamin’ of ya
Aw don’t leave me mumma

Going Kokomo
Our life’s a beach so let’s let go
Don’t stress yourself
Might even play this on the radio

Going Kokomo
Our life’s a beach so let’s let go
Don’t stress yourself
Don’t stress yourself

Lyrics:
I’ll let it rain today
Send her, the weathervane
On my knees, I say

Well it's easy

The soup has come to life
The music sings while I
Drown in your thighs

I didn't mean
To make you cry
You're beggin’ me
Don't wet your eyes

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holdin’ on to
If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holdin’ on to

If I’m off my head
If our love is dead
What are we holding into

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holding onto

It’s embarrassing
You've buried me
Can’t you see
I’m caught

Honestly
It never seems
To better me
And nothings gone my way
It's been too long

The medicine
So bittersweet
It's killing me
I’m wishin you would stay
But you're not wrong

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holdin’ on to

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holdin’ on to

If I’m off my head
If our love is dead
What are we holding on to

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holding on to

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holdin’ on to

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holdin’ on to

If I’m off my head
If our love is dead
What are we holding on to

If our love is dead
If our love is dead
What are we holding on to
What are we holding on to
What are we holding on to

Lyrics:
I can barely lift my eyes
The Holy Ghost should hold your hand for me
Curve my flaws to fit the jeans
But as it stands I need some more to drink

So if you ever need to find
Someone to get along with every time
Don’t take another chance with me
I’m not the man I’m supposed to be
But your so fucking gorgeous

I need my legs to influence the common sense not fitting in my mind
I know that look upon your face
I’m a disgrace this happens all the time

So if you ever need to find
Someone to get along with every time
Don’t take another chance with me
I’m not the man I’m supposed to be
You’re so fucking gorgeous

I’m fine but I don’t know the words to say it right
I can tell so much has changed but that’s on me
For the sofa king it’s not too late to try
Cause you’re so fucking high
You’re so fucking gorgeous
Cause You’re so fucking high

Ice-T Pulled Over in Heated Traffic Stop

Legendary rapper and actor Ice-T, known for his role as Detective Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order: SVU, was pulled over in New Jersey for what appeared to be a missing front plate on his Porsche. The situation escalated when officers discovered his registration and license were expired. Ice-T, visibly frustrated, recorded the encounter as the officer called for backup. Despite the tense exchange, the actor resolved the issue by paying the fines in full.

Do you think the officer handled the situation fairly, or should they have been more lenient? Let us know your thoughts.

Terrance "Gangsta" Williams recounted confronting Ali "Zoe" Adam, the founder of the notorious Zo Pound gang, during their time in prison. The exchange was sparked by a past incident involving rapper Lil Wayne. During a period of tension between Wayne and his label Cash Money, Wayne attempted to invest street money through Adam, leading to strained relations when Adam delayed repayment. Allegedly, this culminated in Adam confiscating Lil Wayne's jewelry. However, Wayne received his jewelry back, along with a financial return.

Williams, upon learning of Adam's presence in the same prison, felt compelled to confront him about the Wayne situation. Despite his initial anger, the meeting was devoid of violence. Williams observed the prison's dynamics, noting that Haitian inmates supported Adam fervently. Ultimately, Williams extended a hand of peace, acknowledging Wayne's continuous support during his incarceration, which quelled any lingering resentment.

In 1996, a 19-year-old in Agoura Hills, California with an eye for design and an ear for music had an idea. Obsessed with art and classically trained as a pianist, Mike Shinoda heard classic rock samples in the hip-hop he loved, and became transfixed by the potential of combining his love of rap and heavy metal. The band he co-founded, Linkin Park, became one of the most popular and influential groups of the 2000s, cementing Shinoda a leading role in convergence culture. And it all started with one idea.

Ashley Pointer | December 20, 2024
When I greeted Sabrina Carpenter at NPR HQ for her Tiny Desk debut, her charm was immediately disarming. Bubbling with excitement, she extended her hand, introduced herself and complimented my outfit with genuine warmth. You’d think this was one of her first “big time” gigs, not a regular performance for a pop veteran, having sold out arenas across the country touring her now six time Grammy-nominated sixth album, Short n’ Sweet. That humility made me love her even more.

But Carpenter delivers far more than just charm in this performance. Backed by her band, complimented with pedal steel and a string quartet, she reimagines her biggest hits from Short n’ Sweet, while sharing the stories in between songs of how these tracks came to life. Opening with “Taste,” strings serve up some playful pizzicato, before Carpenter and her band move into a lush, soulful version “Bed Chem.” Then everyone swaps their electric instruments for acoustic to perform “Please Please Please” and “Slim Pickins.” Finally, Carpenter closes with the viral favorite “Juno,” cheekily asking the audience, “Have you ever tried this one?” before sweeping her rear end across the windchimes, earning a laugh from the room.

“When I first started [writing songs] it was kinda in a room like this — a room with very dry walls and there’s no reverb,” Carpenter reflects at the top of her performance. “But there’s something so real and special.” That authenticity set the tone for a memorable session with one of 2024’s biggest breakout superstars.

Leaving Neverland a controversial documentary details allegations made by two men who claim Michael Jackson groomed and sexually abused them.

The Jackson family has denied the claims and denounced the film in a series of damning statements, including one which compared the documentary to a “public lynching.” Assed Baig spoke to Michael’s nephew Taj Jackson who says his uncle was innocent.

This week, André 3000 sat down with Popcast, The New York Times music podcast, for a wide-ranging interview about his journey from platinum-selling rapper and pop star to experimental flutist, discussing what it’s like to improvise after a career of writing down raps, the perks of naïveté and a tour-saving call from Prince.

Two decades after he and his Outkast partner Big Boi won the Grammy Award for album of the year, for “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,” he is again nominated in that category on quite different terms. At the show in February, he’s up as a solo artist, for “New Blue Sun,” an album of improvised music on which he plays a variety of wind instruments and speaks no words.

It’s a sonic pivot, but maybe not a philosophical one for a musician who has rewritten his creative approach several times over a 30-year career.

Following his interview, André 3000 and the band behind “New Blue Sun” — featuring Surya Botofasina, Nate Mercereau, Carlos Niño and Deantoni Parks — performed an improvised piece in The Times’ newsroom.
