Peter, Paul and Mary - Blowing in the Wind
Peter, Paul and Mary - Blowing in the Wind Hotney 9 Streams • 2 years ago

Blowin' or Blowing in the Wind info:

"Blowin' in the Wind" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and released on his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963. Although it has been described as a protest song, it poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war and freedom. The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described[by whom?] as "impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind".

In 1999, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, it was ranked #14 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

-----------------------------------

Peter, Paul and Mary:

Peter, Paul and Mary were an American folk-singing trio whose nearly 50-year career began with their rise to become a paradigm for 1960s folk music. The trio was composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. After the death of Mary Travers in 2009, Yarrow and Stookey continued to perform as a duo under their individual names.

Mary Travers has said she was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and the Weavers. In the documentary Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On — A Musical Legacy members of the Weavers discuss how Peter, Paul and Mary took over the torch of the social commentary of folk music in the 1960s.

1963.....#2 U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #4 UK Singles Chart, #2 Canada, #2 New Zealand
"Be My Baby" is a song written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, and Phil Spector. It was recorded on July 5, 1963 at Gold Star Studios Hollywood by American girl group the Ronettes and released as a single in August 1963 and later placed on their 1964 debut LP Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes featuring Veronica. Ronnie Spector is the only Ronette to appear on the single; her future husband Phil produced their elaborately layered recording in what is now considered a quintessential example of his Wall of Sound production formula.
"Be My Baby" was recorded in July 1963 at Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles. Spector recorded a range of instruments including guitars, saxophones, multiple pianos, and horns with innovative studio mixing and over-dubbing. Spector described his production method as "a Wagnerian approach to rock & roll", which became known as the wall of sound. "Be My Baby" was one of the first times Phil Spector used a full orchestra in his recording. The drums were played by Hal Blaine, who introduced a drum beat that later became widely imitated. Guitars on the session were played by Tommy Tedesco and Bill Pitman, after whom the instrumental "Tedesco and Pitman" on the B-side of the single was named.
The song was arranged by Spector regular Jack Nitzsche and engineered by Larry Levine. Ronnie Spector is the only Ronette to appear on the record. "Be My Baby" was the Ronettes' first song produced by Phil Spector, released on his label, Philles Records. The group had already recorded a track by Greenwich and Barry called "Why Don't They Let Us Fall in Love", but this was held back in favor of "Be My Baby". The song reached number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles Chart (kept from the top spot by The Fireballs' "Sugar Shack") and number 4 on the UK's Record Retailer. It also peaked at number four on the R&B chart. The single sold more than two million copies in 1963. In her autobiography, lead vocalist Ronnie Spector relates that she was on tour with Joey Dee and the Starlighters when "Be My Baby" was introduced by Dick Clark on American Bandstand as the "Record of the Century."

The Everly Brothers - Live concert 1984 • TopPop
The Everly Brothers - Live concert 1984 • TopPop Hotney 7 Streams • 2 years ago

August 21, 2021.
Don Everly, 84, passed away at his home in Nashville. He formed the legendary rock and roll duo The Everly Brothers with his brother Phil. Together they had worldwide hits in the late 50s and early 60s with "Bye bye love" and "All I have to do is dream". In 1984 on their comeback they scored the top10 hit "On the wings of a nightingale", written by Paul McCartney.

The Everly Brothers were an American country-influenced rock and roll duo, known for steel-string acoustic guitar playing and close harmony singing. Consisting of Isaac Donald "Don" Everly (born February 1, 1937 - August 21, 2021) and Phillip "Phil" Jason Everly (January 19, 1939 – January 3, 2014), the duo was raised in a musical family, first appearing on radio singing along with their father Ike Everly and mother Margaret Everly as "The Everly Family" in the 1940s. When the brothers were still in high school, they gained the attention of prominent Nashville musicians like Chet Atkins, who began to groom them for national attention.

They began writing and recording their own music in 1956, and their first hit song came in 1957, with "Bye Bye Love", written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. The song hit number 1 in the spring of 1957, and additional hits would follow through 1958, many of them written by the Bryants, including "Wake Up Little Susie", "All I Have to Do Is Dream", and "Problems". In 1960, they signed with the major label Warner Bros. Records and recorded "Cathy's Clown", written by the brothers themselves, which was their biggest selling single. The brothers enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1961, and their output dropped off, though additional hit singles continued through 1962, with "That's Old Fashioned (That's the Way Love Should Be)" being their last top-10 hit.

In October 1984 the Everly Brothers visited the Netherlands to headline the annual Dutch television show 'AVRO's Platengala'. Their single 'On The Wings Of A Nightingale' reached its highest position of #4 in the in the Dutch Top 10 on that very day, 13 October 1984. Their album 'EB'84' was on its way to the 6th position in the Album top 100 and achieved the gold status.
This performance was taped at the AVRO Platen Gala, 13 October 1984 recorded live in the Ahoy Hall, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

🎤 Letra: El cigarrillo

Anoche estuve conversando con mi cigarrillo
Me sentí cansada, cansada, aburrida y tan vacía
Porque he intentado vivir a mi manera
Porque me he negado a pagar el tributo
De bajeza y pecado que hoy nos exige el mundo
Que a lo mejor estoy acabada o que la vida me ha vencido
Que he sufrido y he llorado,
Que he luchado y he reído

Lyrics:
Do you believe in magic in a young girl's heart
How the music can free her whenever it starts?
And it's magic if the music is groovy
It makes you feel happy like an old-time movie
I'll tell you about the magic, and it'll free your soul
But it's like tryna tell a stranger 'bout-a rock and roll

If you believe in magic, don't bother to choose
If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues
Just go and listen, and it'll start with a smile
That won't wipe off your face no matter how hard you try
Your feet start tapping, and you can't seem to find
How you got there so just blow your mind

If you believe in magic, come along with me
We'll dance until morning till there's just you and me
And maybe, if the music is right
I'll meet you tomorrow, sort of late at night
And we'll go dancing, baby, then you'll see
How the magic's in the music and the music's in me

Yeah
Do you believe in magic?
Yeah
Believe in the magic of the young girl's soul
Believe in the magic of-a rock and roll
Believe in the magic that can set you free
Ohh, talking 'bout the magic

Kool & The Gang ~ Jungle Boogie 1974 Disco Purrfection Version
Kool & The Gang ~ Jungle Boogie 1974 Disco Purrfection Version Hotney 6 Streams • 2 years ago

The winters in the 70's were not as bleak as today due to the overabundance of good upbeat music that played on the radio. Usually after the holidays, everyone is in depress mode since there is not a lot to look forward to after the glorious one two punch of Christmas and New Years, just a lot of snow and some lesser holidays.

For example, in the winter of 1973-1974, Kool & The Gang put out "Jungle Boogie", and it was on the charts as the same time as "Love's Theme","I've Got To Use My Imagination", "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up" , Boogie Down". These songs fuelled my early morning routines and the freezing cold hours spent waiting for the bus.

The story of "Jungle Boogie" started when De-Lite records pestered Kool & The Gang to do a cover of Manu Dibango's "Soul Makossa" as import copies of that song were the hottest ticket in disco and the label wanted in on that action. Instead, they listened to that song and were inspired to write "Hollywood Swinging" , "Funky Stuff" and "Jungle Boogie". Those songs were written in one night and at 11AM the next morning, the band convened at Mediasound Studios which was located in an old church on 57th Street.

The recording was made in studio B, which was one level below in the old church morgue. The acoustics were perfect for what the band was putting down. "Jungle Boogie" was the first song released and it peaked at #4 pop, and #2 R&B. An across the board smash, it featured Kool & The Gang roadie Don Boyce, whose deep voice anchored the song's spoken parts. Who can forget that Tarzan yell at the end? This has been sampled to death. Does anyone out there remember Jade's "Don't Walk Away" from 1993? It sounds like the same like it was directly lifted from the instrumental break on "Jungle Jazz", which was "Jungle Boogie" with no vocals only that jazzy ass flute!

Lyrics:
I've been stranded in the combat zone
I walked through Bedford Stuy alone
Even rode my motorcycle in the rain
And you told me not to drive
But I made it home alive
So you said that only proves that I'm insane

You may be right

But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

Everybody's Talkin' - Harry Nilsson, 1969.

Everybody's talking at me,
I don't hear a word they're saying,
Only the echoes of my mind.

People stopping staring,
I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.

I'm going where the sun keeps shining,
Thru' the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes.

Banking off of the North East winds,
Sailing on summer breeze,
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.

I'm going where the sun keeps shining,
Thru' the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes.

Banking off of the North East winds,
Sailing on summer breeze,
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.

Everybody's talkin' at me,
Can't hear a word they're sayin',
Only the echoes of my mind.

And I won't let you leave my love behind.

And I won't let you leave my love behind.

And I won't let you leave my love behind...

Ooh, you come out of a dream,
Peaches and cream,
Lips like strawberry wine,
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful and you're mine.

You're all ribbons and curls,
Oh, what a girl!
Eyes that twinkle and shine,
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful and you're mine.

You're my baby, you're my pet,
We fell in love on the night we met.
You touched my hand, my heart went "pop",
And ooh, when we kissed we could not stop.

You walked out of my dream,
Into my arms,
Now you're my angel divine,
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful and you're mine.

You're my baby, you're my pet,
We fell in love on the night we met,
You touched my hand, my heart went pop,
Ooh when we kissed we could not stop.

You walked out of my dreams, and into my car,
Now you're my angel divine,
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine.

Baby, even though,
You don't need me,

The love we had,
Could not be bad,
I played it right,
And bide my time,

All my life I've waited for somebody,
To give me love like you,
Now you tell me that you wanna leave me,

The Foundations were a British soul band, active from 1967 to 1970. The group was made up of West Indians, White British, and a Sri Lankan. Their 1967 debut single "Baby Now That I've Found You" reached number one in the UK and Canada, and number eleven in the US, while their 1968 single "Build Me Up Buttercup" reached number two in the UK and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. The group was the first multi-racial group to have a number one hit in the UK in the 1960s.

The Foundations were one of the few British acts to successfully imitate what became known as the Motown Sound. The Foundations signed to Pye, at the time one of only four big UK record companies (the others being EMI with its HMV, Columbia Records, and Parlophone labels; Decca; and Philips who also owned Fontana).

The Mamas and the Papas stand tall as one of the most emblematic and influential groups of the 1960s. With their signature harmonies and introspective lyrics, they seamlessly bridged the gap between folk and pop, crafting a sound that captured the zeitgeist of a transformative decade. The ensemble comprised John Phillips, the principal songwriter and strategist; his wife, Michelle Phillips, whose ethereal voice added a unique dimension; Denny Doherty, with his powerful lead vocals; and Cass Elliot, whose resonant contralto became one of the group's defining features.

Their rise to stardom was meteoric, marked by chart-toppers like "California Dreamin'", which evoked a wistful longing for sunnier climes, and "Monday, Monday", a poignant reflection on the transient nature of love. These songs, among others, ensured their place in the annals of pop history, granting them a global fan base and the prestigious Grammy Hall of Fame Award.

However, the group's journey wasn't without its turbulence. Behind their harmonious sound lay interpersonal conflicts and struggles. The Mamas and the Papas disbanded in 1968, a mere three years after their formation, but their legacy was far from ephemeral. Their music became emblematic of a generation questioning societal norms and seeking deeper meaning.

Tragically, time has taken its toll on the group's original lineup. Cass Elliot, with her larger-than-life presence both on and off the stage, passed away in 1974. Denny Doherty followed in 2007, and John Phillips in 2001. Today, Michelle Phillips remains the sole surviving member, a poignant custodian of their collective memory. The Mamas and the Papas left an indelible mark on the music industry.

Their legacy is a testament to the enduring power of music to encapsulate moments, movements, and emotions, transcending time to inspire generations anew. Join Facts Verse, as we present: How Each of The Mamas & The Papas Died
