Chuwi: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 204 Ansichten • 1 Jahr vor

This Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, NPR Music celebrates artists from all corners of Latinidad with an 'El Tiny' takeover.

Anamaria Sayre | September 25, 2025
The song that opens Chuwi’s Tiny Desk is quick, coy and questioning. In staggered vocals, keys and percussion, the Puerto Rican band gently tells a story about a life well-lived, but something lingers. “Que me faltara,” they all sing. What am I missing? This is a common theme throughout Chuwi’s music — that the members love their family, their island, their home — but, like many Puerto Ricans, they still seek something better: “un guarapo de jengibre y un Puerto Rico libre.”

Chuwi is a collection of family and friends from Isabela, Puerto Rico. (If you caught any of Bad Bunny’s historic residency, Chuwi was the backing band every night for “WELTiTA.”) They come from the western side of the island where bomba, plena and salsa are injected into people’s veins. The band harmoniously incorporates all of these influences into its sound, trading ocean blues and sunset pinks for playful jazz breaks and tasteful synthesizer effects. Chuwi’s members build a landscape of their home wherever they go, making it feel as though the something missing is and always will be irrefutably theirs.

Adrian Quesada: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 3 Ansichten • 1 Jahr vor

This Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, NPR Music celebrates artists from all corners of Latinidad with an 'El Tiny' takeover.

Felix Contreras | September 30, 2025
Adrian Quesada’s body of work reflects a restless creativity. The resume for the Austin, Texas-based musician, producer and composer includes Grupo Fantasma, Black Pumas, Brownout and any number of collaborations. He’s constantly looking for new sounds and voices.

So what does Quesada bring to the Tiny Desk? Four singers, four boleros. Angélica Garcia, Flor de Toloache’s Mireya Ramos, Trish Toledo and iLe each offer something distinct and personal to these songs originally found on two volumes of Quesada’s Boleros Psicodélicos.

Bolero, a Cuban song form that has not changed much over the centuries, has always been an opportunity for vocalists to inhabit the undeniable drama of the lyrics. Heartbreak is a big deal in boleros and it’s easy (and common) for vocalists to overdo the drama with overwrought vocal gymnastics. That is not the case here. Each vocalist has the discipline and artistic vision to insert just enough of themselves to leave an impression, but not overstate their case.

In the right hands, and voices, vocalists can bring back memories of pain and nostalgia — just hearing a deeply meaningful lyric belted out in just the right way can bring a grown man to tears. Not that this happened to me during these performances. I’m just saying.

SET LIST

31 Minutos: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 435 Ansichten • 1 Jahr vor

This Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, NPR Music celebrates artists from all corners of Latinidad with an 'El Tiny' takeover.

Anamaria Sayre | October 6, 2025
The Tiny Desk has witnessed some pretty legendary guitar solos. Shrouded in fog, this one opens with some shred played by a puppet. Only the deeply beloved 31 Minutos could pull off such a dramatic feat, even at the Desk.

31 Minutos is a Chilean TV show, but more than that, it's an institution of Latin American children's programming. Known for being equal parts educational and just plain silly, it's smart, cutting and dynamic in its presentation of Chilean social issues and broader culture. In between classic rock refrains characteristic of the Southern Cone and cutesy choral moments, the puppeteers and musicians of 31 Minutos transform the Desk into a true playground. Everyone is invited to sing, dance, laugh and celebrate the show's first trip ever to the United States.

SET LIST
"Mi Equilibrio Espiritual"
"Bailan sin Cesar"

CARDI B: The TRUTH Behind The End of My Relationship… Hotney 7 Ansichten • 1 Jahr vor

What’s the hardest part about letting go?

What helped you start healing after that?
Today, Jay sits down with Grammy Award–winning artist Cardi B for a rare and intimate conversation that reveals the woman behind the spotlight. From an early age, Cardi carried big dreams and an unshakable belief that she was meant for more. She opens up about the quiet moments she spent planning her future, the determination that pushed her beyond the challenges of her upbringing, and the resilience that continues to drive her today. Cardi reflects on how those experiences not only fueled her success but also shaped her greatest mission, creating a better life for her children.

Together, Jay and Cardi dive into the complex balance between success and struggle, from the weight of constant scrutiny to her most vulnerable battles with depression and the pain of being misunderstood. Cardi opens up about the loneliness she’s faced, the toll of public criticism, and how she found the strength to rise again when life felt overwhelming. Cardi reflects on the challenges of balancing motherhood and career, the values she’s determined to instill in her children, and why building independence has been the key to protecting everything she’s worked so hard for.

Cardi also shares how her unwavering faith and deep connection with God have been the foundation of her resilience. She reminds us that real strength isn’t found in perfection, but in the decision to rise after every setback, to hold onto hope when the world doubts you, and to keep working relentlessly toward the life you envision.

In this interview, you'll learn:
How to Stay Strong Through Criticism
How to Keep Your Mental Health in Check
How to Balance Motherhood and Career
How to Find Your True Calling
How to Break Free From Your Environment
How to Use Faith to Overcome Struggles
How to Keep Working When Life Gets Hard
Every setback is an invitation to grow, every criticism a chance to reaffirm your worth, and every season of struggle is a reminder that brighter days are possible. Trust the path you’re on, lean into your resilience, and protect the vision you hold for your life, because it is always worth fighting for.

With Love and Gratitude,
Jay Shetty

Lyrics:
I remember it well
How could I forget
When You traded all my hell
For Your righteousness
Now I live in Your light
And I walk in Your truth
I give You my praise
'Cause everything changed the day I met You

I've been saved, set free and resurrected
Called by name, redeemed
Now I'm seated in the heavens
And my heart can't contain
All the praise that I want to give
'Cause I was dead
Then I met You
And now I live
I live, I live

You've shown grace after grace
Given love upon love
Even a hundred million songs
Couldn't measure up
To the God that You are
And all that You do
I give You my praise
'Cause everything changed the day I met You

I've been saved, set free and resurrected
Called by name, redeemed
Now I'm seated in the heavens
And my heart can't contain
All the praise that I want to give
'Cause I was dead
Then I met You
And now I live
I live, I live

From the morning to the evening
I'll be singing hallelujah
For my story, You've rewritten
I'll be singing hallelujah

From the morning to the evening
I'll be singing hallelujah
For my story, You've rewritten
I'll be singing hallelujah
Hallelujah

I've been saved, set free and resurrected
Called by name, redeemed
Now I'm seated in the heavens
And my heart can't contain
All the praise that I want to give again
'Cause I was dead
Then I met You
And now I live

Yeah, I was dead
Then I met You
And now I live
I live, I live

Thank You, Jesus
You brought me back to life

From the morning to the evening
I'll be singing hallelujah
For my story, You've rewritten
I'll be singing hallelujah
Hallelujah

Hey mama, you’ll be proud
'Cause I finally found the truth
And it seems like all your prayers
Yeah they finally got through
I been caught up in my head
Tryin to fight that deja vu
Thought that I was at the end
But now I’m living on the moon

I know this heart got power
These eyes got power
This love got power
This touch got power
Said this heart got power
These eyes got power
I feel it in my veins
I’m dancing every day (like)

I am finally alive
I’m gonna set my world on fire
I will never dim my light
I’m gonna set my world on fire

This ain’t no magic
This is for real, no plastic
This ain’t no magic
I thought I never could have it

I am finally alive
I’m gonna set my world on fire
So watch me burn

Hey mama, you’d be proud
That I’m finally in tune
And I’m feeling like a child
Like a life I never knew
Caught up in my heart
There’s a peace that I can’t shake
They could try to burn me down
But I see God inside the flame

I know this heart got power
These eyes got power
This love got power
This touch got power
Said this heart got power
These eyes got power
I feel it in my veins
I’m dancing every day (like)

I am finally alive
I’m gonna set my world on fire
I will never dim my light
I’m gonna set my world on fire

This ain’t no magic
This is for real, no plastic
This ain’t no magic
I thought I never could have it

I am finally alive
I’m gonna set my world on fire
So watch me burn

This little light of mine I’m gonna let it shine bright bright bright
Said this little light of mine I’m gonna let it shine bright bright bright
Said this little light of mine I’m gonna let it shine bright bright bright
So watch me burn

I am finally alive
I’m gonna set my world on fire
I will never dim my light
I’m gonna set my world on fire
