Backstage George Johnson reveals the entire Brother's Johnson story. It's an incredible story, one any true fan would relish the opportunity to hear. It had been cataloged and filed away, but with the recent events that have happened, we felt it important to share it. Here is the real deal...R.I.P. Louis. God bless George and the entire Johnson family. Heartfelt condolences. Please... share with the world.

Perish the pain
I was impoverished
Those ties that wind
And stared into open lanes
Stared into long long nights
Howling and still

West of the Eastern Cove
Carving the wind
Dawn of your eyes
Dust off your smile

--

When you say ‘us’
You make me trust

--

I will never keep you from an open door
I know, you know

That’s how much i feel in everything you are
You know, I know

--

Hot as the day
When we sat on stones
Watching the fish, run
Under our feet, and flow

And dove from the rocks
Scraping my knees and toes
And blood, with me, rose
Slow from the sea

And you were waiting for me
Waiting for me
Waiting for me
Waiting for me
You were waiting for me

--

It’s just how much
When you say ’us’
You don’t know just how much
You make me trust

--

I will never keep you from an open door
I know, you know

That’s how much i feel in everything you are
I know, I know

I will never keep you from an open door
i know, you know

I will never keep you from just who you are
I know, I know

The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

Bob Boilen | January 25, 2021
It's been 10 years since the band Future Islands performed its first Tiny Desk concert. Now its four members are gathered not too far from their Baltimore base in Carroll Baldwin Memorial Hall, sans desk. "We lost the desk," singer Sam Herring tells us with a smile. With drummer Michael Lowry on the tiny stage, the rest of the band — including bassist William Cashion and Gerrit Welmers on electronics — took to the floor, allowing Sam Herring to make his moves and sing his heart out. This music is clearly for the head and the feet.

The songs are from their sixth and very recent album, As Long As You Are. Along with themes of loneliness and love, we also hear songs about race, which is most evident in "The Painter," a song about how we can all look at the same thing and see it so differently. We end with a song that came out shortly after visiting NPR in 2011 called "Balance." It's one of those tunes that feels repurposed for the 2020s: "This is a song for anybody who's struggling through their lives," Sam Herring says, "and I know there are a lot of you all out there, just trying to get by, but it's going to take a little bit more time."

Becky Hill x Sonny Fodera - Never Be Alone (Lyrics)

We’ve been stuck in the silence
Watching life passing us by
Slowly we’ve lost our minds somewhere inside these walls

Did you forget the feeling
Tryna find it staring at the ceiling
Slowly we’ve lost our minds somewhere inside these walls

I ain’t seen your face
We ain’t spoke for days
Let me lift you up
To restore your faith

It’s all that wanna do
If you let me

I wanna surround you with love
Can you remember that rush?
I know it’s been hard but now you’ll never be alone

I wanna surround you with love
Nothing else matters but us
I know it’s been hard but now you’ll never be alone

I ain’t seen your face
We ain’t spoke for days
Let me lift you up
To restore your faith

It’s all that I wanna do
If you let me

There’s no time wait
We can throw some shapes
If you’re feeling down
Come & walk this way

With a new EP and a year of big moves on tap, Warner Music Nashville’s Chase Matthew continues to make his case as one of Country’s boldest new voices. A Music City native, the rising star began his career by blazing an independent trail, leveraging an infectious country-or-nothing personality, rowdy live performances, and authentic music built around his low-slung vocal twang. Amassing nearly 900M global career streams (with more than 150M global streams on his first RIAA PLATINUM-certified smash, “County Line”), Matthew has garnered 1.5M+ followers across social media; named “One to Watch” by HITS; and among MusicRow’s Next Big Thing Class of 2024. Since releasing his sop****re album, Come Get Your Memory, he spent 2023 selling out venues across the nation on his headline COME GET YOUR MEMORY TOUR, while also performing at major festivals and more. His debut single “Love You Again” is nearing Top 30 at Country radio, and along with releasing his six-song EP We All Grow Up – a mix of backroad swagger and broken hearts – he’s set to spend this year extending his wildly popular headline run, as well as joining Jason Aldean for the HIGHWAY DESPERADO TOUR.

⁣Adam Calhoun - "Fight Music"

This week we welcome one of Hip-Hop's favorite LEGENDS, Jadakiss, and a legend in the making, his son Jae'Won. It's heart-warming to see a father-son duo as close and as successful as these two. We dive into Hip-Hop history and get some inside stories from Jada & Gillie who witnessed them first hand. Everything from artist beef to the nightlife and how it's different from today. Jadakiss even teases along awaited new project (or two). You know Wallo tried to solidify his spot in Hip-Hop history by trying to get a 16 on the project. Real Hip-Hop fans are not going to want to miss this one, tap in!

Lyrics:
Nothing is promised to me and you
So why will we let this thing go
Baby I promise that I'll stay true
Don't let nobody say it ain't so
And baby I promise
That I will never leave
And everything will be alright, I
I promise these things to you
Girl just believe
I promise
