Nov. 6, 2017 | Bobby Carter -- Wyclef Jean doesn't get his just due. It was only after The Fugees had the world in their collective palms, and then disbanded, when we got to know his unadulterated abilities as a musician — his first solo album The Carnival was a project equal to (if not greater than) his greatest successes with The Fugees. From there, his focus shifted to discovering and producing stars, stretching all genres in his solo mission, and philanthropic work for his homeland of Haiti.
A seasoned pro, he walked through our doors greeting and charming anyone within arm's reach. Once in front of an audience, he was in attack mode, playing every instrument in sight. Clef doled out stories ranging from his upbringing and rise with The Fugees to intimate musical encounters with Whitney Houston and Destiny's Child. The mentions were properly placed and added substance to the performance, but to me, he pulled what I'd call a "subtle stunt." Hip-hop is and has always been about youth and freshness, so most elder statesmen of rap aren't celebrated to the degree of their peers in rock 'n' roll and country music. Every now and again it's necessary to inform the younger generation, who would otherwise never know these epic moments ever happened.
Over the past few years, we've seen a resurgence of sorts for Wyclef. Young Thug noted a heavy influence, naming a song after him and then tag-teaming on a different track on last year's Jeffery; one of the biggest songs of 2017, DJ Khaled's "Wild Thoughts," prominently samples Wyclef's colossal collaboration with Carlos Santana on "Maria Maria." His career trajectory was recently documented on TV One's Unsung, and in September he dropped the third installment of The Carnival. He starts his set with two highlights from his latest record, and finishes with a climactic rendition of his signature hit like you've never seen or heard.

Chorus:
Every time I make a run
Girl, you turn around and cry
I ask myself, "Why, oh, why?" (One-two, one-two)
See, you must understand, I can't work a nine to five
So I'll be gone 'til November (One-two, one-two)
Said I'll be gone 'til November, I'll be gone 'til November
Yo, tell my girl, yo, I'll be gone 'til November
I'll be gone 'til November, I'll be gone 'til November (Ready?)
Yo, tell my girl, yo, I'll be gone 'til November (One-two, one-two)
January, February, March, April, May
I see you cryin', but girl, I can't stay
I'll be gone 'til November, I'll be gone 'til November
And give a kiss to my mother (Y'all ready?)

Lyrics:
Well, I guess I'm trying to be nonchalant about it
And I'm going to extremes to prove I'm fine without you
But in reality, I'm slowly losing my mind
Underneath the guise of smile, gradually I'm dying inside
Friends ask me how I feel and I lie convincingly
'Cause I don't want to reveal the fact that I'm suffering
So I wear my disguise 'til I go home at night
Then turn down all the lights and then I breakdown and cry

Edit: The "NEW" in the title (now removed) was for those who had seen my previous video and were asking for a new video; it is not meant to imply that this is some sort of new dance style.
Thank you all for your kind words as I continue to learn, improve, and appreciate dance to the fullest! Happy 2020 (:

April 30th is International Jazz Day and we are highlighting another of the Airmen of Note's special collaboration with American jazz trombone virtuoso, composer and arranger, Wycliffe Gordon!
Mr. Gordon is a prolific recording artist and is extremely popular for his unmatched signature sound, plunger technique and unique vocals. The Airmen of Note recorded some of Mr. Gordon's fast moving charts for our fourth video in the 2022 Jazz Heritage Series.
In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30th as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Using music to connect with people is precisely one of the three pillars of The United States Air Force Band's mission.
This chart will feature some blazing fast technical playing from Mr. Gordon as well as each of the sections of the Airmen of Note. Please enjoy, "Swing That Music" featuring Mr. Gordon on the soprano trombone and vocals.

Parov Stelar - Booty Swing
Hi there!
I'm (finally!) back with a new music theory related video explaining what is swing, a form of popular music developed in the United States that dominated in the 1930s and 1940s. The amazing danceable swing style of big bands and bandleaders such as Benny Goodman was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1946, a period known as the swing era.
You will recognize "In the Mood", a popular big band-era #1 hit recorded by American bandleader Glenn Miller. It topped the charts for 13 straight weeks in 1940 in the U.S. In 1999, National Public Radio (NPR) included the song recording on RCA Bluebird on the NPR 100, the list of "The 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century". Then in 2004, the original song recording on RCA Victor was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry which consists of recordings that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
Hopefully I made it clear, understandable but, above all, fun! :)
Enjoy!

Lyrics:
You get a shiver in the dark
It’s raining in the park but meantime
South of the river you stop and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie double four time
You feel all right when you hear that music ring
You step inside but you don’t see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down
Too much competition too many other places
But not too many horns can make that sound
Way on downsouth way on downsouth London town
You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords
Mind he’s strictly rhythm he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing
And an old guitar is all he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing
And Harry doesn’t mind if he doesn’t make the scene
He’s got a daytime job he’s doing alright
He can play honky tonk just like anything
Saving it up for Friday night
With the Sultans with the Sultans of Swing
And a crowd of young boys they’re fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles
They don’t give a damn about any trumpet playing band
It ain’t what they call rock and roll
And the Sultans played Creole
And then the man he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last just as the time bell rings
‘Thank you goodnight now it’s time to go home’
and he makes it fast with one more thing
‘We are the Sultans of Swing'

Amazing Jazz song Almost Blue by Chet Baker / Composed by Costello
Lyrics : Almost blue
Almost doing things we used to do
There's a girl here and she's almost you
Almost all the things that your eyes once promised
I see in hers too
Now your eyes are red from crying
Almost blue
Flirting with this disaster became me
It named me as the fool who only aimed to be
Almost blue
It's almost touching it will almost do
There's a part of me that's always true...always
Not all good things come to an end now it is only a chosen few
I've seen such an unhappy couple
ALMOST Me/You/Blue

Lyrics:
BRIGHT LIGHTS LATE NIGHTS
Streets and noises, thousand faces
The scars of dusk... never leave traces
The day is falling
falling into sleep
Voices promising the sweetest dreams
In the land of Lethe... you know how it feels
Swinging sirens
running after me
So take me out...
for one more night
You know... I cant live without these
bright bright lights
Strings of night playing lullabies
In my head... (there are) so many surprises
The night is falling
falling into sleep

Das Programm:
Big Band Swinging - Voices Singing
Kurzbeschreibung
