Tilly Birds - Never A Waste Of Time

What can I do?
What's left for a time-bomb to choose?
Than to count down our time to the end, knowing what we've been through
Tell me now isn't that cruel?

So, what now?
You hope for the best, while I'm waiting for less
Such a beautiful mess, tell me how
Time will allow us not to take our final bows?

Just before the night escapes us
Waiting for the waves to take us
Let me look in your eyes
Your smile's always been mine

Just before this ends, I'll look back
Waiting for the screen to turn black
If I could ever rewind
Know that we were never a waste of time

Kept on giving all the wrong signs,
dead ends when we took drives.
kept on trying just to stop trying
tired of always being so tired
We had it all, can't deny

Hurts to say goodbye when your eyes tell me no
We can't design how sands of time will flow
Just have to let go

Our scars are so perfectly placed
The memories fade, but remain
Put your hand in mine
We'll be alright
The finish line's
Just one dance away

Just before the night escapes us
Waiting for the waves to take us
Let me look in your eyes
Your smile's always been mine

Just before this ends, I'll look back
Waiting for the screen to turn black
If I could ever rewind
Know that we were never a waste of time

Lyrics:

Don’t be scared
You can lean on me, lean on me
I’m right there
You’re the answer, the answer to
All my prayers
Put your weight on me, weight on me
I’m right there
Yeah I’m right there

Don’t be scared
You can lean on me, lean on me
I’m right there
You’re the answer, the answer to
All my prayers
Put your weight on me, weight on me
I’m right there
Yeah I’m right there

Sunrise sunset
Whatchu sippin on
Weight of the world
Lemme take it off
Right where we left
Don’t have to be strong
I’ll do it for you you you

Call me at 2 in the morning
Call me whenever your low
You know I’ll be there for you
Be there for you
To the edge of the earth for you

Don’t be scared
You can lean on me, lean on me
I’m right there
You’re the answer, the answer to
All my prayers
Put your weight on me, weight on me
I’m right there
Yeah I’m right there

Don’t be scared
You can lean on me, lean on me
I’m right there
You’re the answer, the answer to
All my prayers
Put your weight on me, weight on me
I’m right there
Yeah I’m right there

Got these feelings
Bottled up inside
I hope you know
You don’t gotta hide
How dark it gets
I’ll be by your side
I’ll be by your side

Call me at 2 in the morning
Call me whenever your low
You know I’ll be there for you
Be there for you
To the edge of the earth for you

Don’t be scared
You can lean on me, lean on me
I’m right there
You’re the answer, the answer to
All my prayers
Put your weight on me, weight on me
I’m right there

Lyrics:

Hope I can accept the wild thing in me
Hope nobody comes to tame her
And she can be free
Sick of second guessing my behaviour and what I want to be
Just let me lie here on the sofa
And put the reruns on tv

And I’ll be fine, I’ll be ok
I feel kind of lucky right now and I’m not ashamed to say
I can be happy, I can be sad, I can be a bitch when I get mad
I want to settle down oh to fall in love but sometimes I just want to fuck
I love my life, I love my life but sometimes I just want to…

Let me lie here on
I could lie here all day long
Let me lie here on the sofa
The sofa, the sofa, on the sofa
(Sometimes I just want to)
Be no one thing
The intellectual beauty queen

Didn’t make it out to California
Where I thought I might clean the slate
Feels a little like I’m stuck in Seven Sisters
North London, oh England
And maybe that’s ok

LYRICS

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who’s having fun
Sometimes I feel like I just want to run away from everyone

Don’t feel the way I do
Don't think the way I do
Don’t look the way I do
Don’t want to be like you

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one
Sometimes I feel like all that rock and roll they play don’t got a soul

Don’t like you guys
Don’t need your lies
Don’t want your friendship
It’s no surprise that I don’t care who you think your down with
You sold your soul for a suit
You think you look so cool but it looks like shit on you
I see right through
That’s why we laugh at you

Let's be real, going platinum is a dream for most rappers. But diamond hip-hop albums? That’s a whole different level. That’s holy grail status. In hip-hop, it’s ultra rare. Only 11 albums have ever crossed that 10 million sales line. That’s what it takes to be determined diamond-certified.

And believe it or not, some of the biggest names? Jay-Z? Nope. Nas? Still waiting. Drake, Kendrick, Kanye, Snoop? All on the outside looking in. Here's a look at all the albums that have gone diamond in hip-hop.

Chance The Rapper sits down with DJ Hed & Gina Views to talk his new music, new shows, navigating hip hop, musical influence & MORE❗️

Lyrics:
I’ve been thinking
That I got no idea what you’re thinking
Are you happy? Are you sad?
Are you always gonna hate me for that night in Tokyo?
When it ended
I kinda hoped that it’d be open ended
But you never looked back
Well I guess you can’t hold on to something once you let it go
But I know a place
Where we can be us
I know it ain’t real
But it’s real enough
From sun going down to sun coming up
It’s like you’re here with me
Whenever I close my eyes
It’s taking me back in time
Been drowning in dreams lately
Like it’s 2019 baby
Whenever I’m missing you
Call you up but I can’t get through
Don’t know where you sleep lately
But I’ll see you in my dreams maybe
We can catch up, drive down our old street
If all that we were is all that we’ll ever be
It’s bittersweet
At least a girl can dream
I guess that I’m taking what I can get
‘Cause I don’t get nothing new from your friends
If you got the harder side of the break
Then why is it harder for me to take
There’s so much I might never get to say, ay
But I know a place
Where we can be us
I know it ain’t real
But it’s real enough
From sun going down to sun coming up
It’s like you’re here with me
Whenever I close my eyes
It’s taking me back in time
Been drowning in dreams lately
Like it’s 2019 baby
Whenever I’m missing you
Call you up but I can’t get through
Don’t know where you sleep lately
But I’ll see you in my dreams maybe
We can catch up, drive down our old street
If all that we were is all that we’ll ever be
It’s bittersweet
At least a girl can dream
I-I-I know it’s only in my mind
Playing three nights on the stereo
Like a movie scene, DiCaprio
Oh l-I-I put my make up on just to fall asleep
It’s like you’re here with me
Whenever I close my eyes
It’s taking me back in time
Been drowning in dreams lately
Like it’s 2019 baby
Whenever I’m missing you
Call you up but I can’t get through
Don’t know where you sleep lately
But I’ll see you in my dreams maybe
We can catch up, drive down our old street
If all that we were is something we’ll never be
It’s bittersweet
Can we be friends at least

Lyrics

I’m a mess
It’s a shade
Just a curse
All alone,
I can’t escape this flow
Can’t escape it on my own

(Do you)
Feel the stress
Hear the stirring
A rage pushed low
I tried not to let it show
I tried to let it go

I, I lie to my last breath that I’m not gone (not gone)
I tried being honest once and lost count of all it’s cost

I keep waking up as somebody new
The absence of me is the proof
Will I be defined by loss?
Or just lost like everyone

I’m not sure you can hear me but, I’m ready
Let’s go

I’m losing count of all the friends I’ve lost through energy
If I’m not running empty they don’t want a thing from me
I’ll send a message out so you can have it clearly set
Half a man without a soul
That’s all you’ll fucking get
I want to write it down
I want to set in stone
A new start to force the balance
So I can feed my soul
3 decades on
I’m still running
They can never say that I’m not trying

Another void in the shade and it feel like drowning
I swear on lives and a god I have no belief in
I am nothing
Is that what you wanted from me?
And 3 decades on
I’m still running
They can never say that I’m not trying

I, I lie to my last breath that I’m not gone (not gone)
I tried being honest once and lost count of all it’s cost

I keep waking up as somebody new
The absence of me is the proof
Will I be defined by loss?
Or just lost like everyone

I’m sick of seeing ghosts in the broken frames at home
Couldn’t we have run together
Because the journey’s too much alone
I’ve contemplated joining you sometimes when I get low
So am I destined to face failure
Never to find an afterglow
Oh no

What the fuck have I become
No
What the fuck have I become
I told you I need you
You threw me to the wolves
I promise it’s over
I’ll find my own way through

I, I lie to my last breath that I’m not gone
I tried being honest once,
And lost count of all it cost

And if that darkness catches up will I become
Someone no longer defined by loss
Just lost like everyone

Brace yourself I’m about to fall off
Brace yourself I’m about to go off

Lyrics:
Jim Bob drinks his coffee with a pall mall and a keystone
Sits out on his front porch with his flea infested dogs
Caught a little shrapnel from some boom
Boom in his knee bone
Pops a half a Percocet to keep the hurting off
They say
Jim Bob go to work
Quit living for the buzz
Jim Bob go to church
But Jim Bob never does
We don't wanna see you waste your life away
He lights another cigarette and all he's got to say is
All I wanna do until they lay my body down’s
Take my pills pay my bills blow the rest all on some crown
Fill this Boone and crockett holler with country boy can survive
Get fucked up on my back forty point my pistol to the sky
Make it go pow pow pow
Somebody gonna go wow wow wow
That boy’s got some demons he’s a heathen put him in a pew he need some Jesus now now now
I don’t know how how how or when it will be
All I know’s I’m gonna live this redneck life
Until kills me
Jim Bob’s got his name already written on some granite
Main Street cemetery underneath that water oak
He says he’s never seen it ‘cause he hates them city limits
In the back of a black Cadillac’s the only way he’ll go
And he goes
All I wanna do until they lay my body down’s
Take my pills pay my bills blow the rest all on some crown
Fill this Boone and crockett holler with country boy can survive
Get fucked up on my back forty point my pistol to the sky
Make it go pow pow pow
Somebody gonna go wow wow wow
That boy’s got some demons he’s a heathen put him in a pew he need some Jesus now now now

Lyrics:

There’s just one more thing
While you’re running back and forth in my mind
I’ll do anything
To put the meltdown off for a while
Well there’s a million things that I’d rather do
Than to keep from being stuck on you
I’ll do anything
So I don’t get sent to the back of the line

Oh, you know it’s true
I’m living proof
I’m a sucker for you
So here we go again

Take me, take me, take me for a ride
Make me, make me put revenge aside
I’ll say no and you’ll say yes
Then I’ll say Ok, but this is the last time
Take me, take me darkest Valentine
Make me, make me drink again tonight
I’ll say no, and you’ll say yes
Then I’ll say okay, but this is the last time

Even though I say
That I’m gonna stand up to you
It just works this way
Make a separate dinner for you
It turns out that I’ve got time for that
Who’s the boss well we’ve established that
I’ll do anything
So I don’t get sent to the back of the line

Oh, you know it’s true
I’m living proof
I’m a sucker for you
And I’d do it all again

Take me, take me yes I’ll hold your stuff
Break me, break me too much not enough
Baby, baby tell me what you want
I’ll say Ok, but this is the last time
Take me, take me dearest Valentine
Make me, make me drink again tonight
I’ll say no, and you’ll protest
Then I’ll say Ok, but this is the last time
I’ll say Ok, but this is the last time
I’ll say Ok, but this is the last time

Even though I say
I’ll do anything
I’ll do anything
So I don’t get sent to the back of the line

Oh, you know it’s true
I’m living proof
I’m a sucker for you
So here we go again

Take me, take me, take me for a ride
Make me, make me put revenge aside
I’ll say no and you’ll say yes
Then I’ll say Ok, but this is the last time
Take me, take me darkest Valentine
Make me, make me drink again tonight
I’ll say no, and you’ll say yes

Lyrics:
Made a deal with the devil
Put me down on my knees
Like a cult or religion
Trade my soul for a dream
There’s no cure to my darkness
Only perfect disease
When my depression takes over
You’re the one thing I need
Synthetic therapy
If you want to see how I run right back to killing myself, taking my time
Dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight
At the end of every dream, there’s a demon saying I didn’t need help to ruin my life
Dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight
Made a deal with the devil
An apparition that bleeds
What’s the price of your body
If it is taken for free
Yeah I was starved for attention
But you can take it from me
If there’s a hell underneath us That’s where you will find me
Dance with the devil, Slave ‘til the end
Beg for the dirt when they find you in a coffin

LYRICS
Standing right there in front of me
Like he'd never been gone
Over in a corner we wrote this song

Coming out of a dream
Trying to hold onto that melody
Another dream becomes a reality

Over in the corner, getting high, high, high
Come on

Thank you for the music
Thank you for the song
Thank you for the visit, what took so long
All of them good times
Fortune and the fame
Since you've been gone, things don't feel the same
I wanna thank you, in the song, oh I
Huh

Ahhhhh
Come on

Thank you for the music
Thank you for the song
Thank you for the visit, what took so long
Thank you for the good times
Fortune and the fame
Since you've been gone, things don't feel the same
I gotta thank you
I gotta thank you, oh Lord
Thank you, hey
I wanna thank you, oh
Come on, come on, oh, oh, oh, yeah
Thank you for the good times
Fortune and the fame
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, oh
It’s all right
Hold onto the melody
Hold on

LYRICS:
Coughing on the ground like an old used automobile
I saw the light of time, the sun was burning fields
And when The Angel’s fall, banished from the sky
I lace my dirty boots and drag the wagon for a ride
I walk the night
I walk the night

Pounding sweat, the fever cheats the creepy mind
Pleading agony from the wagons plague of Christ
Chanting masquerade, the crooked souls on fire
Into the circle and raise your glass of wine
I walk the line
I walk the night
I am the night

Baby, we’re going out in the barn tonight
Put on your silky dress
I got a bloody appetite
A day for the masses
They call it reborn
By the power of thunder
The cross will hit the ground
So baby, you saw the burning fields as I…

Baby, see the black moon rise above
A blood red sky that feats the calling of the horned one
The white gates of heaven will turn to dust
The wagon with angels will be fed for the one
So baby, open up your pretty eyes

In the barn of the goat, giving birth to Satan’s spawn in a dying world of doom

Bobby Carter | August 14, 2025
As Omar performs “This Is Not a Love Song” at the Tiny Desk, I can’t help but think of how contradictory that particular selection is to his overall career in music. His knack for penning pure love songs has taken him on a 40-year musical journey around the world from Kent, England, and most recently, landing him at NPR headquarters.

Born Omar Lye-Fook, the singer-songwriter is a key figure in the history of British soul music. His debut single, “There’s Nothing Like This,” released in 1990, not only helped to set the stage for the “neo soul” movement but also led to collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, and the late Angie Stone.

Dressed to the nines and wearing his signature high-top locs, Omar stepped behind the Desk with a look of disbelief on his face. I don’t know if it was the number of die-hard fans in the building or the proximity at which they stood; in any case, he fed off that energy and gave it right back to the crowd as they swayed and sang along to highlights from his timeless catalog.
