PJ Harvey: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Ann Powers | November 17, 2023
Polly Harvey has inhabited many characters throughout her 30-year career and always dressed the part: catsuit-rocking glam queen, high-collared Victorian wraith, mini-skirted libertine, feather-adorned warrior. Bringing the story told in her latest album, I Inside the Old Year Dying to the Tiny Desk, she stands at the microphone in a draped dress the wintry color of a gray alder tree, designed by her longtime costumier Todd Lynn. Its torn elegance perfectly suits the dual role she plays in these gently ferocious songs, which originated in her novel-in-verse, Orlam. As she lets loose her inimitable razor-sharp alto, she becomes both Ira-Abel, the child who, in the aftermath of an assault, merges with the forest around her Dorset, England, home, and of the bard whose verses keep that shepherd girl alive after her vanishing.

Harvey keeps her gestures minimal as she sets her scenes and speaks through them. Matching her voice to those of her trusted collaborators John Parish and James Johnston as they invoke the forest's ghosts — the "chalky children of evermore" — she lets the fecund imagery of her lyrics resonate. At times the crowd seems stunned into silence; after her lament for Ira-Abel, "A Noiseless Noise," concludes with the notes from her acoustic and Parish's electric guitar intertwining, she coolly waits out a gap before the applause and hoots of appreciation arrive.

This is where Harvey lives as a fully realized artist: on her own artistic plane, inviting listeners to take their time to fully join her. Ending with the heart-rendingly lonesome title track from 2007's White Chalk, she connects Ira-Abel's story to her lifelong project of expressiing women's solitude, pain and resistance. Exploring how human boundaries can shatter, reassert themselves or be rendered irrelevant, these songs create a contained space that echoes far beyond itself.

Lyrics:
You said there’s something ‘bout my eyes
And we stayed out on the beach all night (all night)
The drawing in the sand
Then you took me in your hands and held tight (held tight)

Falling way too fast and hoping it will last
Tell me can we still go back
To where the sun don’t set with my head on your chest
Tell me can we still go back

Cos I wanna be there
I wanna be there with you
I really don’t care
I don’t care what we do
Let’s get lost in the crowd
With your hands on my body somewhere
I wanna be there with you

I wanna be there
I wanna be there with you
I wanna be
I wanna be there with you
Let’s get lost in the crowd
With your hands on my body
Somewhere, I wanna be there with you

Cos I wanna be there
I wanna be
Cos I wanna be there
I wanna be there with you
I really don’t care
I don’t care what we do
Let’s get lost in the crowd
With your hands on my body somewhere
I wanna be there with you
I wanna be there

You said there’s something in the air as you pulled me close and held me there (held me there)
And it felt like gravity, way that you were crashing in to me (in to me)

Like falling way too fast and hoping it will last
Tell me can we still go back
To where the sun don’t set with my head on your chest
Tell me can we still go back

Cos I wanna be there
I wanna be there with you
I really don’t care
I don’t care what we do
Let’s get lost in the crowd
With your hands on my body somewhere
I wanna be there with you

I wanna be there
I wanna be there with you
I wanna be
I wanna be there with you
Let’s get lost in the crowd
With your hands on my body somewhere
I wanna be there with you
I wanna be there
I wanna be

Cos I wanna be there
I wanna be there with you
I really don’t care
I don’t care what we do
Let’s get lost in the crowd
With your hands on my body somewhere
I wanna be there with you
I wanna be there

🎤 Lyrics: Chris Brown - Loyal ft. Lil Wayne, Tyga

[Intro: Lil Wayne, Chris Brown]
Young Mula, baby!
(Let me see)
Haha
You thought it was over?
(Let me see)

[Verse 1: Lil Wayne, Chris Brown]
I wasn't born last night
I know these hoes ain't right
But you was blowin' up her phone last night
But she ain't have her ringer nor her ring on last night, ooh
N*gga, that's that nerve
Why give a b*tch your heart when she'd rather have a purse?
Why give a b*tch an inch when she'd rather have nine?
You know how the game goes, she be mine by halftime
I'm the shit, ooh
N*gga, that's that nerve
You all about her, and she all about hers
Birdman Junior in this b*tch, no flamingos
And I done did everythin' but trust these hoes (Let me see)
CB, f*ck with me

[Chorus: Chris Brown]
When a rich n*gga want you
And your n*gga can't do nothin' for ya
Oh, these hoes ain't loyal
Woah, these hoes ain't loyal
Yeah-yeah, let me see

[Refrain: Chris Brown]
Just got rich
Took a broke n*gga b*tch
I can make a broke b*tch rich
But I don't f*ck with broke b*tches

[Verse 2: Chris Brown]
Got a white girl with some fake titties
I took her to the Bay with me
Eyes closed, smokin' marijuana
Rollin' up that Bob Marley, I'm a rasta
She wanna do drugs (Drugs)
Smoke weed, get drunk (Wasted)
She wanna see a n*gga trap
She wanna f*ck all the rappers (Let me see)

[Chorus: Chris Brown]
(Uh-huh)
When a rich n*gga want you (Want you, baby)
And your n*gga can't do nothin' for ya (Nothin', no)
Oh, these hoes ain't loyal (No, they ain't)
Woah, these hoes ain't loyal
Yeah-yeah, let me see

[Verse 3: Chris Brown]
Black girl with a big booty
If she a bad b*tch, let's get to it (Right away)
We up in this club
Bring me the bottles
I know, girl, that you came in this b*tch with your man
That's a no-no, girl
All this money in the air
I wanna see you dance
[Refrain: Chris Brown]
Just got rich (Got rich)
Took a broke n*gga b*tch (Yeah)
I can make a broke b*tch rich
But I don't f*ck with broke b*tches (Girl, it's you)

[Chorus: Chris Brown]
(Uh-huh)
When a rich n*gga want you (Yeah-yeah, want you, baby)
And your n*gga can't do nothin' for ya (No, nothin', no-woah)
Oh, these hoes ain't loyal (Oh-oh-oh-oh-no)
Woah, these hoes ain't loyal
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Yeah-yeah, let me see

[Verse 4: Tyga]
(Ha!) Rich young n*gga
Name got bigger and my change got bigger, so my chains got bigger
Ferrari, Jaguar, switchin' four lanes
With the top down screamin' out, "Money ain't a thing" (Ha!)
Ha, me and CB in the Bay with her (Bay with her)
I sent her back home so you can lay with her
Okay, let's talk about this ice that I'm carryin'
All these karats like I'm a f*ckin' vegetarian
Shout-out Weezy F., keep a redbone wet
Rose Rolex, hoes on deck, she know I got a check
Do it too good when she ride that dick (Woo)
Man, I wouldn't trust that b*tch, no (Haha)
[Bridge: Chris Brown]
Come on, come on, girl, why you frontin'?
Baby, show me somethin'
When I call her, she gon' leave
And I bet that bottom dollar she gon' cheat
Come on, come on, girl, why you frontin'?
Baby, show me somethin'
You done spent your bread on her
And it's all for nothin' (Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, let me see)

[Chorus: Chris Brown]
(Uh-huh)
When a rich n*gga want you (Want you, baby, yeah, woo)
And your n*gga can't do nothin' for ya (Can't do nothin' for you)
Oh, these hoes ain't loyal (Oh, no)
Woah, these hoes ain't loyal
Yeah-yeah, let me see (Woo)
(Uh-huh)
When a rich n*gga want you (Want you, baby, yeah)
And your n*gga can't do nothin' for ya (Oh-woah-oh)
Oh, these hoes ain't loyal (They be playin' games, yeah)
Woah, these hoes ain't loyal (Oh-oh)
Yeah-yeah, let me see

[Outro: Chris Brown]
Yeah, let me see
Yeah-ah, let me see
Let me see
Oh, these hoes ain't loyal
Let me see

Milky Chance - Feeling For You (Official Video) Hotney 4 Streams • 3 years ago

This is the official music video for “Feeling For You,” a song from our album called “Living In A Haze.”

We really loved producing this song. It carries a core Milky Chance sound but still brings across the new production details that are so special for “Living In A Haze.”

LYRICS
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the colors
Of the sunrise breaking at the dawn
It’s been a long night on the road to nowhere
But you found me somewhere in the dark
You caught me in the moonlight
Pulled me up from under
Now I’m left to wonder
Looking for your love
Falling through the hours
Stuck inside my blue mind
Never wanna lose time
Never get enough

I don’t know what it means
But I know you’re the only reason
I can’t escape the feeling
I’m feeling for you
Never fell so in deep
And now I’m starting to believe it
I can’t escape the feeling
I’m feeling for you

I talk to streetlights down on every corner
But they don’t know where I have to go
So I listen to your voice
In a world so full of noise
One thing I hear
Please don’t disappear
You caught me in the moonlight
Pulled me up to wonder
How you pulled me under
Looking for your love
Falling through the hours
Stuck inside my blue mind
Never wanna lose time
Never get enough

I don’t know what it means
But I know you’re the only reason
I can’t escape the feeling
I’m feeling for you
Never fell so in deep
And now I’m starting to believe it
I can’t escape the feeling
I’m feeling for you

I don’t know, I don’t know
What it means, what it means
I don’t know, I don’t know
What it means, what it means

I don’t what it means
But I know you’re the only reason
I can’t escape the feeling
I’m feeling for you
Never fell so in deep
And now I’m starting to believe it
I can’t escape the feeling
I’m feeling for you

🎤 Lyrics: Shakira - Hips Don't Lie ft. Wyclef Jean

[Intro: Wyclef Jean]
Ladies up in here tonight
No fighting (We got the refugees up in here)
No fighting
No fighting
Shakira, Shakira

[Pre-Chorus: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
I never really knew that she could dance like this (Hey)
She make a man wanna speak Spanish
¿Cómo se llama (Sí!), bonita? (Sí!)
Mi casa, su casa (Shakira, Shakira)
Oh baby, when you talk like that (Huh-uh) (Yeah)
You make a woman go mad (Oh)
So be wise (Sí!) and keep on (Sí!)
Reading the signs of my body (Uno, dos, tres, cuatro)
No fighting
[Chorus: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie (No fighting)
And I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see, baby? This is perfection

[Verse 1: Wyclef Jean]
Hey girl, I can see your body moving
And it's driving me crazy (Huh-uh)
And I didn't have the slightest idea
Until I saw you dancing (Yeah)
That when you walk up on the dance floor, nobody cannot ignore
The way you move your body, girl (Just smooth)
And everything's so unexpected, the way you right and left it
So you can keep on shaking it (Let's go)

[Pre-Chorus: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
I never really knew that she could dance like this (Hey)
She make a man wanna speak Spanish
¿Cómo se llama (Sí!), bonita? (Sí!)
Mi casa, su casa (Shakira, Shakira)
Oh baby, when you talk like that (Huh-uh) (Oh)
You make a woman go mad (So bad) (Oh)
So be wise (Sí!) and keep on (Sí!)
Reading the signs of my body
No fighting
[Chorus: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie (No fighting)
And I'm starting to feel you, boy (Yeah)
Come on, let's go, real slow
Don't you see, baby? Así es perfecto
They know I'm on tonight (Yeah)
My hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see baby? This is perfection (Shakira, Shakira)

[Verse 2: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
Oh boy, I can see your body moving
Half animal, half man
I don't, don't really know what I'm doing
But you seem to have a plan (Yeah)
My will and self-restraint
Have come to fail now, fail now
See, I'm doing what I can, but I can't, so, you know
That's a bit too hard to explain (Uno, dos, tres, cuatro)

[Bridge 1: Wyclef Jean with Shakira]
Baila en la calle de noche (Uh, yeah)
Baila en la calle de día (Let's go!)
Baila en la calle de noche (Uh, yeah)
Baila en la calle de día (Let's go!)
[Pre-Bridge: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
I never really knew that she could dance like this (Hey)
She make a man wanna speak Spanish (Yeah)
¿Cómo se llama (Sí!), bonita? (Sí!)
Mi casa, su casa (Shakira, Shakira)
Oh baby, when you talk like that (Huh-uh) (Oh)
You know you got me hypnotized (Oh)
So be wise (Sí! Uh) and keep on (Sí! Uh)
Reading the signs of my body (Yeah)

[Bridge 2: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
Señorita, feel the conga
Let me see you move like you come from Colombia
Yeah, oh, yeah, ladies, sí! (Yeah, yeah, hey, yeah)
Mira, en Barranquilla se baila así, say it! (Yeah)
En Barranquilla se baila así (Yeah)

[Verse 3: Wyclef Jean with Shakira]
Yeah, she's so sexy, every man's fantasy
A refugee like me back with the Fugees from a third world country (Huh-uh)
I go back like when 'Pac carried crates for Humpty Humpty
We leave the whole club jazzy
Why the CIA wanna watch us?
It's the Colombians and Haitians
I ain't guilty, it's a musical transaction
Bo-bop-so-bop, no more do we snatch ropes
Refugees run the seas, 'cause we own our own boats, boats (No fighting)

[Chorus: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
I'm on tonight
My hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel you, boy
Come on, let's go, real slow
Baby, like this is perfecto (No fighting)
Oh, you know I'm on tonight

[Outro: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
No fighting
No fighting
