Few genres have had the lasting impact of punk. 1976 is one of those seismic dividing lines in popular music. A history destroying year zero. The point after which everything changed. It was the year that The Ramones debut was released, the year that the first singles from the UK Punk scene were set loose upon an unprepared public. And while the punks wanted to remove themselves from the past, burn all that had come before, nothing happens within a vacuum. These bands didn't appear out of nowhere with the key principles of the genre locked in place. This innovative minimalist, three-chords and the truth, turbo-powered rebellious music had to have precedent. There were other artists that lead up to this era-defining moment in music that are either forgotten, ignored or not given credit. This is how Punk became punk.

If there’s any genre that has diamonds built into its very DNA, it’s hip-hop. Since the days of thick gold rope chains and Slick Rick’s early displays of decadence through to the logic-defying creations that Ghostface used to sport and the dawn of the bling era, transferring those record sales into record-setting jewelry purchases is nothing new in the game. In truth, it’s become such an accepted part of the culture that even before an MC has truly accomplished anything, the lure of the diamond district can be too strong to resist.

Nas is regarded as one of the best rappers of all time for his works throughout the years. One such work is Illmatic which is widely considered to be one of the best rap albums of all time. Though Illmatic wasn’t an instant success it grew with popularity over time and Nas was hailed as a genius.

But how does someone follow up one of the greatest rap albums of all time. The pressure was immense especially with Nas having to deal with crossing over to make more radio friendly music while also still be appealing to the streets. This pressure would lead to Nas’ most successful album to date which is It Was Written.

In the early 2000’s it was rumored that Suge Knight who co-founded Death Row Records, J Prince who co-founded Rap-A-Lot records, and Irv Gotti who founded Murder Inc Records wanted to start a black-owned record distribution company. This might’ve been the initial plan but it grew to be something bigger. According to Irv Gotti, this then lead to the idea of starting a union for artists.

Suge spearheaded the plan and he went as far as to meet with the same labor organizers who helped set up the player's union for the MLB along with J Prince. However, after news broke out of this plan Suge, Dame, J Prince, and Irv Gotti would all deal with various legal issues.

Today’s feature was inspired by the thought of doing dancehall artist Sean Paul, who when you speak about the history of the genre at all, you have to mention his reign and importance to bringing dancehall music to the forefront of popular music on a worldwide stage, and the success like non other he’s been able to have on western music early in the 21st century. Sean couldn’t have come at a more better fitting time, as dancehall music was peaking around the early 2000s, then here comes this mixed colored artist with braids, but could also be confused for hispanic. He hit every market and gave dancehall its biggest look ever. I still remember when “Gimmie da light” came out and have everyone one the dance floor in the function doing whatever the new dances were in the music videos. Sure you’ve had this artist and that artist come after the Sean Paul era, but I’d say in the last 15 years, Dancehall music has been as dead as radio. What Happened To Dancehall music? Did It Go TOO Pop? Stunted Growth Music.

A Very Secret Service, also known by its original French title ‘Au service de la France’, is a French spy comedy-drama created by Jean-François Halin. Halin wrote the show along with Claire Lemaréchal and Jean-André Yerlès. The theme music, which beautifully sets the tone of the show, is composed by Nicolas Godin, who is one half of the French music duo ‘Air’.
