Letra:

Clipse: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 5 Ansichten • 1 Jahr vor

Bobby Carter | July 11, 2025
After a 16 year hiatus and with no go-to band in place, Clipse's Tiny Desk took lots of time to piece together. At first, I didn't know exactly what they were looking for in terms of sonics, but it clicked when I was told what they didn't want: no jazzy renditions of their music. They meant no disrespect to jazz at all, and if you follow the duo's music, it boils down to hard drums and even harder synths. Hybrid drummer Daru Jones, who played on last year's Tiny Desk for the LOX, was the first choice because of his unique ability to mix traditional and electronic drum sounds. He provided the authenticity needed for this set, and everything else fell into place.

The excitement for the Thornton brothers' return reached its apex instantly as someone in the crowd yelled "Oh my god!" at the opening note of "Virginia." There was no lull as the band coasted through "Keys Open Doors" and "Momma I'm So Sorry," from Clipse's most celebrated album, Hell Hath No Fury. I found so much to analyze witnessing the dichotomy between Pusha T and Malice up close. Malice is more collected in his movements, intensely scouring the room with his eyes while his brother is much more animated, even letting out a sinister laugh mid-set.

Recorded weeks ago, the two performed songs from their new album Let God Sort Em Out for the first time, including a chilling dedication to their deceased parents, "Birds Don't Sing." Before the tears from the crowd could dry, we got the moment we'd been waiting for in "Grindin'."

The first half of the year in hip-hop hasn't been the most exciting, so the timing of this reunion couldn't be better. Here's Clipse delivering its best live performance ever recorded and one of the hardest Tiny Desks of all time.

Lyrics
Uncle said, "*, you must be sick
All you talk about is just getting rich"
Choke my neck, *, and ice my *
Beat the system wit’ chains and whips
(This is culturally inappropriate)

You run from the spirit of repossession
Too much enamel covers your necklace
I buy *, you buy ’em sections
You buy watches, I buy collections
Misery's fueling your aggression
Jealousy’s turned into obsession
Reality TV is mud wrestling
Some signed checks, I know better than
Beware of my name, that there is delicate
You know I know where you're delicate
Crush you to pieces, I’ll hum a breath of it
I will close your heaven for the hell of it
You'd think it'd be valor amongst veterans
I'm watching your fame escape relevance
We all in the room, but here’s the elephant
You chasing a feature out of your element
And those lab diamonds under inspection
The question marks block ya blessings
There's no tombstones in the desert
I know by now you get the message

Uncle said, "*, you must be sick
All you talk about is just getting rich"
Choke my neck, *, and ice my *
Beat the system wit’ chains and whips

It don't take much to put two and two
Your lucky streak is now losing you
Money's dried up like a cuticle
Ya gasping for air now, it's beautiful
John 10:10, that’s my usual
Mamas is falling out in funerals
Embalmed and bloat, they now viewing you
They never find the guns, but the sewers do
Bubbles was sick, he need medicine
Brought him back to life, now he dead again
Richard don’t make watches for presidents
Just a million trapped between skeletons
This the darkest that I've ever been
The diamonds make you taste peppermint
You ain’t thrive in the snow like it’s The Revenant
And send orders back down and keep shoveling

Uncle said, "*, you must be sick
All you talk about is just getting rich"
Choke my neck, *, and ice my *
Beat the system wit’ chains and whips

Yeah, when things get dark and your number get called
And you look side to side, like "What did they say?"
And it ain't the Lord's voice and then you realize that the Devil is talking to you

I’m not the candidate to vibe with
I don’t * with the Kumbaya *
All that talent must be godsent
I send yo’ * back to the Cosmics
The things I’ve seen under my eyelids
Kaleidoscope dreams, murder and sirens
Let’s be clear, Hip-Hop died again
Half of my profits may go to Rakim
How many Judas’s that let me down
But * it, the West mines, we right now
Therapy showed me how to open up
It also showed me I don’t give a *
The two time Gemini with the genocide
I’m generous, how ever you want it
I’ll be the gentle kind
Gentlemen and gangstas connect
The agenda of mine
Move * up outta here
This * get gentrified
Heavy genes like Genovese
I’ll drop your Pentagon
Then show up at your gender reveal
And tell ‘em gimme mine
I son *, I am the general
Where my gin and juice?
Every song is the book of Genesis
Let the sonics boom
* want the tea on me
Well, here’s the ginger root
I generate residuals, *
Get off my genitals
They say I couldn’t reach Gen Z
You * *
You must be full of that ginseng
Here comes the jinx, yeah
They genetics been synthetic screaming they genius
A finger wave, they all fall
* is Jenga
God gave me light
A good year, full of free will
Trump card tell me not to spare your life
(Mutha*a)

Yeah, when things get dark and your number get called
And you look side to side, like "What did they say?"
And it ain't the Lord's voice and then you realize that the Devil is talking to you

【Lyrics】

I remember
I remember Do you remember

GRAMMY® Award-nominated songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Wolfgang Van Halen continues to separate Mammoth from the pack. The music stands alone on a foundation anchored by his impressive sonic proficiency (across drums, bass, keys, and guitar) and airtight arena-size hooks with unforgettable vocals. He harbors an irresistible signature sound, inventive vision, and incomparable identity vaunted by a fervent global fanbase. For as unique as the music is, his story so far proves to be just as unprecedented. This is arguably the first hard rock act to genuinely break out from ground zero in the 2020’s, generating north of 100 million streams, toppling charts, and selling out headline tours less than five years since its debut. Back in 2021, Mammoth’s first offering, Mammoth WVH, took flight, bowing at #12 on the Billboard 200 and capturing #1 on three Billboard charts—Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Independent Albums, and Top Rock Albums. “Distance” soared as the first of two #1 Rock Radio Hits and earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Rock Song.” Two years later, Mammoth II only saw him pick up the pace. It debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart in addition to bringing him back to #1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart. It incited widespread applause from Rolling Stone, Guitar World, GRAMMY.com, Classic Rock, American Songwriter, and KERRANG! The band canvased the globe with Metallica and Pantera and supported Foo Fighters in North America as well as filling houses on their own. They performed on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, at MusiCares 2024 gala in honor of Jon Bon Jovi, and Wolf took the stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® Induction of Ozzy Osbourne. Now, Wolfgang pushes forward on Mammoth’s third full-length LP.

Rusowsky: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 5 Ansichten • 1 Jahr vor

Anamaria Sayre | July 22, 2025
Spanish producer and pianist Rusowsky has built a career, thus far, on making other people's authenticity shine. This year, he released his debut album, DAISY, and took a stab at shifting the spotlight on his own artistry. And, in this Tiny Desk performance, Rusowsky's soul is revealed for the first time in full force.

Ever the producer, DAISY is intentional — beautifully orchestrated and aware of its own ability to manipulate. With all kinds of crashing sounds and fun synths, Rusowsky coats every song with carefully laid diversions. While artistic and bright, the studio album keeps his voice partially hidden with effects.

At the Desk, the arrangements are stunning and well thought out, clearly attributable to his practice. His guard is down and his producer inclinations are backseat to his most raw and intimate tools: his piano and his voice. That voice quakes in moments, richly shines in others, but is consistently breathtaking in how much emotion it evokes. Rusowsky's truth is on full display and his sound has never felt so effervescent.
