The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson is a film that confronts our worst nightmares of impending death, confounding expectations and turning them upside down. It tells the extraordinary, yet universal story of legendary musician Wilko Johnson who, diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer and given a few months to live, managed to accept his fate with uplifting positivity and defy the death sentence handed down to him.

The 1980s was an era in which a fusillade of new genres emerged, and many are still with us today, such as hip-hop and house. Dylan Jones has mined the archives to select some of the most crucial tracks in the rise of these two genres.

Rick Rubin is responsible for countless evolutions in music over the last 30 years. From founding Def Jam to working with the Beastie Boys, to reviving Johnny Cash’s career, to being brought in to save ‘Yeezus’ last minute. He is behind hundreds and hundreds of beloved records. Yet somehow, even after absorbing the entire history, it’s still difficult to explain the legacy of a man who doesn’t appear to do much while doing everything at the same time.

Mac Miller - Stopped Making Excuses
“I’m probably going to cry a few times through the course of this thing,” Mac Miller says in the first scene of Stopped Making Excuses, a new documentary produced and presented by The FADER.
What follows is a candid look at the Pittsburgh native’s past six years, starting with his ascent, when he was 19, as a popular but critically panned rapper. “I was an easy target. I admit that,” he says now. “It became one of those things where I got so much negativity that it almost became, like, ‘There’s no point to overly hate on this dude, let me look in and see what he’s doing.’ And when you look in, there’s some good music there.” Following his 2011 debut album, Billboard's first independently released No.1 in over a decade, Mac moved to Los Angeles, where it seemed to many he was thriving. That’s where Andrew Nosnitsky met him for Mac Miller's 2013 The FADER cover story, and where he played an endearing role in Earl Sweatshirt’s cover too.
But Mac says L.A. soon turned toxic, as he spiraled into increasing drug use. In one scene in Stopped Making Excuses, French Montana counsels him to slow down with codeine. In another, Mac appears in a bathtub wearing a long-sleeved shirt, top hat, and sunglasses, while saying “I’m not on drugs… drugs are on me.”
To finish 2015’s acclaimed GO:OD AM, he headed back to Pittsburgh to regain his composure. Watch him lead the Steelers onto the field, eat one of those weird sandwiches with french fries on it, and perform in his Taylor Allderdice High School graduation gown.
Now, he’s living in New York, trying to make sense of his past and orient himself to an independent, healthy future. “I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess that can’t even get out of his house,” he says. “You don’t go down in history because you overdosed."

If you've heard a DOMi & JD BECK song or watched a performance online, expectations of catching brilliance when you witness the jazz duo in person are likely high. JD's drumsticks move faster than the brain can process. DOMi offers every appendage on her body to the keys. It's frantic but focused, and I can't stop watching. For as tight as the two artists are musically — and even physically; one of their few Tiny Desk requests was for the drums and keys to be set up as close as possible — they take silly self-deprecating jabs when they aren't playing. It's believable until they transform and the music starts.
The two musicians come from two completely different parts of the world. James Beck began cutting his teeth as young as eleven at jam sessions in Dallas. DOMi, aka DOMi Louna, was born in France and raised on jazz, and enrolled at the Conservatoire Régional du Grand Nancy at five. DOMi eventually made her way to the States via a Presidential Scholarship from the Berklee College of Music. The two met at a trade show in 2018 and have been inseparable since, playing sets on YouTube and driving the internet nuts. Before they knew it, they were rubbing elbows with the upper echelon in jazz, R&B, and hip-hop.
The duo's debut album, ironically titled NOT TiGHT, is a graduation of sorts with all of their OGs lending a hand — notably Anderson .Paak, who took DOMi and JD BECK under his wing and made the duo the first signee to his APES*** label. The two brought highlights from that album to the Tiny Desk, including the vines, turf and vibrant floral arrangements from the album cover. Before "U DON'T HAVE TO ROB ME," a true story turned comedy, they make another attempt at neutralizing the room. DOMi says, "We're gonna ruin it!" It's too late for all of that. We're already amazed.

Janet Jackson Breaks Down Her Most Iconic Music Videos | Allure
Nov. 27, 2017 | Stephen Thompson --Phoebe Bridgers' songs come laden with sly, finely detailed observations about unsuccessful flirtations with hypnotherapy, unsettling conversations about Jeffrey Dahmer, and everything in between. Her phrasing is impeccable — warm, cool, conversational, gently slurred — but her songs also swim in the self-aware obsessions and messy meanderings of an unquiet mind.
Joined by Ethan Gruska and Rob Moose, Bridgers popped up at the Tiny Desk a couple weeks after the release of her full-length debut, Stranger In The Alps. Together, they celebrated the occasion with languid renditions of three of the album's best songs: the sad and seductive "Demi Moore," a drastically muted "Motion Sickness" and a piano-driven take on Bridgers' first-ever single, "Killer."

Seattle, Washington, 1984. A group of kids attending Shorewood High School formed a group called Sleze. And as the name suggests, they were a band of Motley Crue Wannabe’s mostly playing cover songs from some of the notable glam metal artists of the time. Sleze were looking for a singer and although Layne had already taken up playing the drums, his step-brother Ken Elmer thought he should audition so he spoke to the band's drummer to see if they would be interested.

Layne Rutherford Staley was born on August 22nd, 1967 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue to his father Phillip Blair Staley and mother Nancy Elizabeth Layne. They lived in Kirkland, a suburb East of Seattle. The pair had only been married 6 months prior, with Phil being 29 and Nancy was just 19 years old. Phil was a car salesman and Nancy was competing in Beauty Pageants.
Just a few years later, when Layne was only 7, his parents would divorce and Nancy would remarry in 1975 to Jim Elmer. This didn’t appear to affect Layne too much though as he would comment many years later “No deep dark secrets there”.
Layne was just like any other normal kid, he loved art and drawing and just doing what kids his age did. His love for music wouldn’t kick in for another few years, although he did attend his first big concert at the age of 8 years old when Elton John came to town and his new Step-Father Jim took him to the show.

If I do, then I will remove the video and close down this post and you have nothing, so stop bloody complaining and just watch it and fast forward the adverts, simple as that.
This video is NOT monetized, so I AM IN NO WAY MAKING ANY MONEY out of these adverts, I wish I was. They are hard coded into the video.
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMPLAINING!!
IF YOU STILL DO, THEN SIMPLY DON'T WATCH IT IF IT REALLY BOTHERS YOU THAT MUCH.
Here is the video without adverts/commercials:

"Janis Joplin was the undisputed queen of rock and roll, her powerful, bluesy vocals, unmatched. Final 24 traces the roots of her addiction and uses archive footage, dramatic reenactments and interviews with her closest companions – including her brother and former band mates - to piece together the last 24 hours of a voice of a generation.

Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh's 1985 hit "La Di Da Di" has become one of the most sampled songs of all time. Hip-hop is a genre built on sampling, borrowing from the greats of James Brown's "Funky Drummer" and The Winstons' "Amen Brother". Alongside "Children's Story", Slick Rick's voice has been used in over 1,000 different tracks and counting, but what is it about the MC that made him so ideal for sampling - let's find out.

Lyrics:
Well, in the moment
You weren’t all that kind
You with your wide-eyed grin’s all I can see
When I think of that time
Promises spoken
All coming back as lies
But you with your soft, sweet kiss is all I miss
In the back of my mind
Did me wrong in the past
And I know it was bad
But you burn inside my memory so well
You caramel
You’re caramel
Your cigarette breath
Thick on your open mouth
Maple and amber clouds and coffee grounds
When I think of it now
Oh
And all the nights with your friends around
Ignoring me so they won’t find out
You can act real cool ‘cause it’s over now
But man, you cried when it all went down
And no one believed me, you gaslighted feelings
’Til you had me thinking that I was the reason
That I was fucking losing my mind
It was love at the worst
It was what we deserved
Yeah, you burn inside my memory so well
You caramel
You’re caramel
And the longer burn, the sweeter that you smell
You caramel
You’re caramel
Sweet taste in my mouth
I can’t get it out
I want you back now
And we’re making out
Drunk, sleeping on my couch
Now when I hear you’re in town
I just want caramel
Ooh
I heard you’re in town
I want you back now
Come over to my house
There’s space on my couch
Yeah, you burn inside my memory so well
You caramel
You’re caramel

No other band has brought me more joy in 2021 than Wet Leg, and I truly needed joy in 2021. When "Chaise Longue," came out in June, it felt like a gift. It's rare to hear a band's very first song sound as perfect as this one did, but that's part of the magic that Wet Leg exudes. Two dear friends – Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers — making music to make each other smile, then watching that smile spread as audiences catch on.
That song has a few deadpan lines lifted from the film Mean Girls: "Is your muffin buttered? Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?" There's a golden moment in this Tiny Desk (home) concert when Rhian turns to Hester with the line, "Excuse me," while Hester responds dryly, "What?" Setting off a knowing smile back and forth made me love the band even more. They were gathered together at The Ventnor Exchange, a creative arts space/record shop/bar/venue on the Isle of Wight, their home turf. And their band – Henry Holmes on drums, Ellis Durand on bass and Josh Mobaraki on guitar and synth – amplify the rock and droll sound Rhian and Hester personify.
They've just announced the April 8 release date for their debut album, more tour dates, and shared two new songs, which you'll also hear them perform here. The new songs don't stray far from the two they'd previously released, which bookend this Tiny Desk (home) concert. Part of the footage was filmed on VHS tape, a bit of a wink toward their sound, which has roots in the '70s. It's not nostalgic, but it is playfully wistful.

Rick James & Teena Marie’s Peculiar Relationship | Just Friends?
Nevermind what you thought happened, we know what really went down back in the hedonistic days of Rick and Teena. Starring In a game of ‘where they really a couple or did we all just think they were?’ Next to Michael Jackson & Diana Ross, one of the fan elected, founding members of ivory soul Teena Marie and the king of punk-funk Rick James had the era of Motown hooked when they released their joint track, ‘Fire & Desire.’ Her identity yet to be disclosed, birthing her debut without a trace of her actual face and when it was time for Teena to reveal herself to the masses the folks were shocked to discover that well… she was white! None of that mattered to Rick who was gonna stick beside her no matter what. Little did she know he’d also drag her along countless trials and tribulations that she wouldn’t be able to escape from decades down the road.

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's friendship was built on musical collaboration, but was permanently soured after Jackson purchased the ATV/Beatles catalog in 1985. Over the coming years, the two fought and publicly attacked each other due to their differences on how the business should have been run.
Here is Paul McCartney in his own words, addressing the long and drawn out conflict he had with the King of Pop.

Smashing Pumpkin’s first two albums, Gish and Siamese Dream, were a huge part of the soundtrack for the early ’90s alternative rock revolution. Still sounding revolutionary all these years later, the band’s leader, Billy Corgan, recently brought Smashing Pumpkins to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for the Spirits on Fire tour, on the heels of their 11th studio album, Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts.
The concept album is a sequel to Smashing Pumpkins’ definitive three-LP masterwork Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, from 1995—which also brought them crushing into the mainstream. Acts two and three of Atum are scheduled for January and April 2023. But meanwhile, there are live shows … and all the gear it takes to recreate more than three decades years of the band’s signature sounds. PS: Special thanks to super-tech Trace Davis for his help with the fine points.
