In 1985, Luther Vandross released his greatest hits album, 'The Best of Luther Vandross... The Best of Love', from it came the release of the single, 'Here and Now'. The track would go on to win Vandross his first Grammy for Male R&B Vocal Performance. Watch the official music video now.

Luther Vandross was a musical master whose style has influenced an entire generation of today's vocalists. His distinctive brand of satin smooth vocal magic moved international audiences and continues to touch people to this day. For almost 25 years, from 1981 to 2005, Luther Vandross dominated the American R&B music charts like no other artist before or since. In that span he released eight #1 R&B albums, seven #1 R&B singles and another five Top 20 R&B singles. He achieved crossover status with eight Billboard Top 10 albums, including reaching #1 with 2003's Dance With My Father; and another five Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 singles.

In Nashville Public Television’s A Word on Words, renowned journalist John Seigenthaler held in-depth and informed discussions with writers, historians and others. Guests over the series’ 40-year run (1972 to 2013) is impressive and includes Ann Patchett, Billy Collins, Rep. John Lewis, astronaut Alan Shepard and Rodney Crowell.

The show’s host may have been its most fascinating subject, however. John Seigenthaler served as editor of The Tennessean, founding editor of USA Today, assistant to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and chair of the selection committee for the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award. He was a passionate advocate of the First Amendment and founded the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University in 1991.

Katie Gavin is the kind of performer whose dynamism knows no bounds. Whether she’s performing with her pop band MUNA or solo, Gavin is a captivating presence.

Each of the four songs Gavin plays from her folksy record, What a Relief, have ambitious and honest lyrics, yet no two songs sound the same. “Aftertaste” serves as a bridge between MUNA’s sound and Gavin’s solo work. “The Baton” is a violin-forward reflection on intergenerational trauma. “Sanitized” is groovy and introspective. And Gavin’s performance of “Sketches” puts her on par with the Lilith Fair artists whose sounds inspired her album.

“This whole solo record was very, like, experimental and playful,” says Gavin as she shifts between the violin, piano and guitar. “I'm playing a lot of instruments that I don't really play,” she admits — though you wouldn’t guess that by the way she casually slays a violin solo or plays the piano with her eyes closed.

Before “Sketches,” a song that deals with the theme of love versus fear, Gavin gives a moving speech about what it’s like to live in the overwhelming world we’re in right now. Gavin then mentions that she’s been talking to a young girl in Gaza, who she asked if she wanted to share anything with the audience. “She told me that she wanted to say that, despite everything, she still believes in life, and she knows that there are people in this world whose hearts are full of compassion,” says Gavin. “And if she can share that and believe in that, then it makes me believe I definitely can, too.”
