August 22, 2016 by BOB BOILEN • There's brutal honesty in the songs of Margaret Glaspy that can make them feel cold, but they're also heartfelt. That's part of what makes Glaspy a top new artist of 2016 for many of the writers here at NPR Music.

Glaspy's new album Emotions And Math, made with her band, is a huge leap from her earlier EPs Homeschool (2012) and If & When (2013), which mostly consisted of the singer and her electric guitar. You can hear Glaspy's sharp words on those older records, but now that wit and wisdom packs a confident punch — as does her guitar playing, which is no longer simply fingerpicked, but also crunched with power chords behind a newly brazen voice.

The Tiny Desk concert provides a great example of how much power can be found in simplicity and purity. Everything serves the songs here: There's no overplaying, no frills, just great music and a tremendous new artist who sounds thrilled to be playing it.

Lana Del Rey - High By The Beach (Lyrics)

High-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh

Boy, look at you, lookin' at me
I know you know how I feel
Lovin' you is hard, bein' here's harder
You take the wheel
I don't wanna do this anymore
It's so surreal
I can't survive
If this is all that's real

All I wanna do is get high by the beach
Get high by the beach, get high
All I wanna do is get by by the beach
Get by, baby, baby, bye bye
The truth is I never bought into your bullshit
When you would pay tribute to me 'cause I know that
All I wanted to do was get high by the beach
Get high, baby, baby, bye bye

Boy, look at you, lookin' at me
I know you don't understand
You could be a bad motherfucker
But that don't make you a man
Now you're just another one of my problems
Because you got out of hand
We won't survive
We're sinkin' into the sand

All I wanna do is get high by the beach
Get high by the beach, get high
All I wanna do is get by by the beach
Get by baby, baby, bye bye
The truth is I never bought into your bullshit
When you would pay tribute to me 'cause I know that
All I wanted to do was get high by the beach
Get high, baby, baby, bye bye

Lights, camera, acción
I'll do it on my own
Don't need your money, money
To get me what I want
Lights, camera, acción
I'll do it on my own
Don't need your money, money
To get me what I want

All I wanna do is get high by the beach
Get high by the beach, get high
All I wanna do is get by by the beach
Get by baby, baby, bye bye
The truth is I never bought into your bullshit
When you would pay tribute to me 'cause I know that
All I wanted to do was get high by the beach
Get high, baby, baby, bye bye

High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh

Anyone can start again
Not through love, but through revenge
Through the fire, we're born again
Peace by vengeance, brings the end
(High-igh-igh-igh)

Lana Del Rey - Shades Of Cool (Lyrics)

My baby lives in shades of blue
Blue eyes and jazz and attitude
He lives in California, too
He drives a Chevy Malibu
And when he calls, he calls for me and not for you
He lives for love, he loves his drugs, he loves his baby, too

But I can't fix him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather

But you are invincible
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable

My baby lives in shades of cold
Cold heart and hands and aptitude
He lives for love, for women, too
I'm one of many, Bonnie's blue
And when he calls, he calls for me and not for you
He prays for love, he prays for peace, and maybe someone new

But I can't help him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather

'Cause you are invincible
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable

Your hot, hot weather in the summer
Hot, hot, neglectful lover
Hot, hot weather in the summer
High, neglectful lover
You're crumbling, sadly
You're sadly, crumbling

You are invincible
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable

Pa pa da pa
Pa pa da ah, oh
Oh, oh
Oh

Juice Newton originally was a member of the band Silver Spur. Later she went solo and shifted to a more country sound. She scored three Top 10 hits of which "Queen of Hearts," was the most prolific. Cady Drell of Rolling Stone wrote: The irresistibly catchy, Fleetwood-esque country-pop cut written by Hank DeVito made it a big hit. Newton had been playing the song at her live shows for a year before Richard Landis produced it for the LP. It was all up from there: The LP went platinum in the U.S. and triple platinum in Canada and earned her two Grammy nominations that year.
This Toppop recording was made on 29 August 1981.

QUEEN QUEEN QUEEN

Tour: Jazz
Date: November 17th, 1978
Venue: Madison Square Garden
City: New York City, New York, USA
Attendance: 20,000

4-Source Merge by stef04 and Bring Back That Leroy Brown, please refer to the queenchat Page (linked on the bottom of the video description for further information on each source!

This is the second night at the famous Madison Square Garden and the band is firing on all cylinders! Not only that, but there is a great mood tonight with the audience being just as rowdy as the night before and the band being in a good mood as well. In fact, the crowd is so loud, that Freddie as fight for their attention early on: "Listen my darlings, listen to me. I'm talking to you, motherfuckers!" Later on, Brian promises that "It's gonna be a rude night", a comment the crowd wouldn't fully understand until an hour later: The band have invited a bunch of strippers to ride some bicycles during "Fat Bottomed Girls" - almost naked! Later, Freddie gets the crowd roaring in applause again as he dedicates the final song of the show, "We Are the Champions", to newly crowned World Champions of football (1978), the New York Yankees. It's a wonderful and cheerful end to a wonderful show. But now - let's get to the performances!

The best show of the Jazz Tour kicks off with a rather solid but not too fantastic "We Will Rock You" but things heat up quickly with a great "Let Me Entertain You" where Freddie goes for two chorus A4s - similar to quite a few Game Tour versions! "Somebody to Love" is the best of the three New York area renditions with a passionate delivery and fine musicianship. "If You Can't Beat Them" might not feature a chorus attempt but the jam sections are absolutely terrific. The medley is pretty good with another creative "Get Down, Make Love" performance but Roger throwing off the band during his own song due to skipping a line... "Now I'm Here" probably is the best November performance as everyone is giving his all! "Spread Your Wings" is absolutely gorgeous with Brian playing another wonderful solo. The acoustic set features a Top 3 "Dreamers Ball" where the entire band has lots of fun, a gorgeous "Love of My Life" and the final "'39" with Roger playing the drum kit on the entire finale. "It's Late" is pretty solid overall.

"Brighton Rock" is fantastic although I slightly prefer the rendition of last night as it seemed a little more experimental overall. "Fat Bottomed Girls" is a fun performance with the band feeding off their surprise of the night. "Keep Yourself Alive" is terrific with the band jamming out during the intro and doing it again after the first chorus, absolutely terrific stuff! "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a much weaker performance compared to last night as Freddie struggles with the song now. "Tie Your Mother Down" is less daring but features a great A4 sustain during the outro. The first encore is pretty weak as Freddie struggles with the chorus sustains but the band is delivering on all fronts. "We Will Rock You" sees Freddie attempting all three A4s but none sound too great unfortunately. "We Are the Champions" also is much weaker than last night's rendition but features a few nice moments, the audience is terrific after Freddie's dedication before the song.

赤い夢を作って私
feel what I want to feel
I'm a bird and I fly free
If you give me 気持ち pill
I will never touch it

All I've ever been
Made me feel this way so far
I'm trying to change
All I've ever been
I don't wanna lose this fight
A ka i yu me

この世界を知らなくても
I hear the sound of my dreams
To reach the apogee
I'm living all of my fears
Diving into my tears

All I've ever been
Made me feel this way so far
I'm trying to change
All I've ever been
I don't wanna lose this fight
A ka i yu me

And I I feel something inside.
An illusion
Cuz I'm falling apart yet not flatlined
All of my pieces all around
And If you're looking for me might not be there
But there might be a construct of me.

Boosie's is inarguably one of the most popular, if not the most popular guest on VladTV. Throughout his appearances, Boosie has provided one viral moment after another. In this VladTV Flashback from 2017, Boosie sat down for his second most viewed interview on the platform where he spoke about the release of his BooPac album among other controversies such as backlash he received from the LGBTQ+ community.

Leeds band Yard Act shored up their emerging sound during an unlikely time; specifically, in the midst of the global pandemic. “I have a lot of respect and space for people that didn't catch that creative break that we did,” Yard Act frontman James Smith reflects, “but we did, and we made the most of it.”

Nominated for the 2022 Mercury Prize for their debut album The Overload, it’s been a whirlwind for Yard Act ever since the world began reopening. The band’s earlier forays into North America had been primarily restricted to the coasts, but September of 2023 saw the band carve a slice across the American Midwest, with shows in Minneapolis; Madison, Wisconsin; and Chicago. During Yard Act’s visit to Minnesota, they visited The Current for a studio session hosted by Jill Riley.

Watch and listen to the complete session above.
