A Short Documentary I made on the infamous GG AlLLIN back when I was in college. Took almost 3 years to produce due to funds (being students and from Toronto, ON Canada), crew dropping out (due to subject matter the more they got involved), Professors (that fought me and didn't see the vision), or just problems all together. Overall my vision from late 2005 beat the odds and my crew that was dedicated as I was, won Best Documentary presented by CTV Canada at the Sherdian MA Awards 2008. I have over the last couple of years wanted to expand it to a full length documentary, with the proper funds and Merle Allin on board. I know, we can finally pull off the ultimate GG Allin documentary! It could happen. But I will let the people decide based on the example student documentary. LIVE FAST DIE: GG ALLIN is still the king of the rock and roll underground.

In my opinion, this is the best documentary about the Northern Soul scene to date, it's been done with love and affection. Produced and Directed by Maurice O'Brien and Edited by David Arthur. Most documentaries covering the music that I love make me cringe, this one gives me goosebumps.

The Authority On All Things R&B !
On this week's episode of R&B Money, Tank and J Valentine unravel the weaving threads that make up Theron Thomas' illustrious career in music. Enveloped by exotic flora on the Caribbean Island of St. Thomas, a young Theron shared an unassuming bedroom with his brother Timothy: four walls confining their ambition but not containing it - fanning its flames was their father who continually inspired them to hone their craft and be nothing less than excellent performers; thus Rock City would ultimately come alive for what we now know as global success both critically acclaimed & commercially revered alike. Appearing before our very eyes is none other than most electrifying talent himself ready to divulge erudite lessons learned from navigating unbeknownst pathways within today's industry including identification skillset grounded upon trustworthiness plus insane records crafted alongside Dr Luke then continuing onto penmanship collaboration with Babyface; furthering onto crafting smashes for respective A list singers such as Usher, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Ciara, Sean Kingston, Nicki Minaj, Lizzo + many more. New Evidence Confirms Tupac Shakur's D3ath Was A Cover Up

Tupac’s mysterious still hasn’t been solved and to this day many fans are saying Tupac was taken out because he started exposing greed, corruption, and other dark industry secrets…

Not only was Pac extremely outspoken about the hypocrisy in Hollywood but he actively worked to help other people from becoming victims of the industry…
One of these people is a former hip-hop video model who recently came forward claiming that she was almost sacrificed by the industry and that Tupac literally saved her life!

So was Tupac really eliminated because he tried to expose Hollywood? Let’s get to the bottom of this!

#tupac

Everything in the culture of hip-hop has a trailblazer that made it possible. From Kool Herc’s inadvertent creation of the genre as a whole and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five injecting social commentary amid the pulsing beats on “The Message” through to Schooly D paving the way for NWA to take gangsta rap global with his groundbreaking “PSK”, nothing within this genre is born without the seeds being planted before them.

In an industry where no one exists in a vacuum, the steps that most hip-hop artists take are a case of retracing that which came before them in one way or another. And while the internet has opened the floodgates for diverse, experimental voices to find audiences, the mainstream landscape is one which remains adherent to tried and tested templates, formulas and set roles that need to be fulfilled.

And ever since the man LL Cool J, lesser-known James Todd Smith left his mark on the game, one of those has been for a smooth-talking, million-selling ladies man who isn’t afraid to spit with the best of them when it’s required.

Last month 80s MRB flew to Seattle WA. to interview Geoff with no idea what to expect. In fact we weren't even sure he'd show up. We set up at this 5 star hotel with an amazing view of the city as our backdrop and waited for Geoff. Counting down to the minutes he was supposed to arrive and then he did. In fact he arrived exactly as planned. We all introduced ourselves and told Geoff what we were hoping to get on camera. We sat him down in our famous directors chair & mic'd him up. Part 1 of this interview is almost 30 min, packed with amazing stuff. Geoff couldn't have been more generous with his stories and answers to all our questions. He spoke about writing Mindcrime, DeGarmo leaving, Scott Rockenfield, the band breaking up, a possible reunion, and so much more. Grab some popcorn, or a beer... sit back and enjoy this BRAND SPANKIN' NEW interview with our new friend... Geoff Tate. Watch for part 2!!

The Michigan native created some of the most potent rock music the world had ever heard, influencing virtually every generation of punk, garage rock and grunge artists that was to come. Pop’s high-wire collaborations with David Bowie in the latter half of the ’70s are the stuff of legend and spawned some of both artists’ most enduring hits. In 2016, he affirmed his position in the pantheon of rock music with his celebrated Post Pop Depression LP.

Lyrics:
Well, Pam thinks Jesus is on his way
Doug thinks she’s a hoot
Rob thinks Bud Light makes you ****
Shane thinks Rob is cute
Coach thinks college athletes are making too much bank
Kim thinks Covid was a chinese prank
Buddy thinks everything i sing sucks ‘cause it don’t sound like Hank
Well baby I think

Beer goes good with a lake
And a lake goes good with a dock
And a dock goes good with a fish on a hook
And a hook goes good with a country song
And a song goes good with a smile
And a smile goes good with a kiss
And a kiss goes good with you
And baby you go good with me

Well, old cousin Carl thinks we need to close the border
Carlos disagrees
Son thinks trans is short for transformers
And daughter thinks money grows on trees
Cindy thinks the government is tapping her phone
Willie thinks we oughta just all get stoned
Label thinks I’mma get canceled
Soon as I put out this song
Hope I don’t but

Beer goes good with a lake
And a lake goes good with a dock
And a dock goes good with a fish on a hook
And a hook goes good with a country song
And a song goes good with a smile
And a smile goes good with a kiss
And a kiss goes good with you
And baby you go good with me

So perfectly
You’re my best friend
Yeah, that’s my two cents

Baby I think

Beer goes good with a lake
And a lake goes good with a dock
And a dock goes good with a fish on a hook
And a hook goes good with a country song
And a song goes good with a smile
And a smile goes good with a kiss
And a kiss goes good with you
And baby you go good with me

Music therapy is a psychotherapeutic method that uses music as a therapeutic agent. Modern music therapy is a technology for resolving medical, rehabilitation, developmental, correctional, and educational tasks. Research in this area is aimed at studying the possibility of influencing a person’s personality by combining medical, pedagogical, psychotherapeutic methods with controlled musical influence.
The first studies of the healing effects of music on the human body began at the end of the 19th century. In 1899, neuropathologist James L. Corning conducted the first research using music to treat patients.

It's no secret to anyone that musical works can heal. Knowing certain rules of treatment with classical music, you can get rid of cancer, develop your creative and intellectual abilities. From what kind of music a person listens, even a character depends, which can also be easily changed.

KAUSHIKI CHAKRABORTY LONDON CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENT: The Darbar team wanted to let you know that our next concert features Kaushiki Chakraborty performing at the Barbican Centre in London. This will probably be remembered as London’s finest vocal concert of 2023.
-----
Nina Burmi uses her smooth three-octave vocal range to explore the thumri style - a semi-classical genre intimately connected with dance, poetry, and drama.

Learn more about the music:
Thumri is a sensuous ‘light classical’ style, originating in Uttar Pradesh. The word is derived from the Hindi ‘thumakna’, meaning ‘to walk with dancing steps so as to make the ankle-bells tinkle’, and the genre remains closely connected with dance and drama. Ragas are treated more flexibly, and songs are often devotional, romantic, or even erotic in nature. Lyrics have a central role, often being based on folk tales or classical poetry, and commonly depicting the separation of lovers, or myths of Lord Krishna.

Nina Burmi sings in the Kirana gharana style, tackling khayal, thumri, bhajan, and other forms. Currently living in the UK, she trained under the esteemed husband-wife pairing of Dilshad Khan and Parveen Sultana, and combines the latter’s wide vocal range with a more sparsely ornamented approach. In this song she is joined by top accompanists, with lyrics describing the tension and sorrow of a lover who is separated from Lord Krishna.

Recorded for Darbar Festival 2006

-Ramesh Mishra (sarangi)
-Sanju Sahai (tabla)
