Face Full of Cake is the band's first LP in 12 years and their first on Capitol Records. The record marks their first with new bass player Jack Daley who joined the band full-time in 2021. Recorded in Asbury Park, the fabled incubating ground of Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band’s epic, Born To Run, Spin Doctors cut Face Full Of Cake by the wintry shores of New Jersey, cloistered in the creative atmosphere of Daley’s studio Dug Deep Productions. Engineered and mixed by Grammy Award winning maestro, Roman Klun, the album features a combination of the easy-going hook-forward songs and freewheeling jam sensibilities they’ve always exhibited with bluesy funk flavor and straightforward rock’n’roll.

“‘Boombox’ is vintage Spin Doctors,” says Barron. “Ear candy, master riffing under a classic lyric and melody combination that unfolds irresistibly, makes a head nodding, grin winning, can’t sit still, feel good, super song, that feels inevitable. The mid-80s was make-or-break time for Kate Bush. Since her breakthrough in 1978, she’d been gradually alienating her fans with successive ambitious but non-commercial left turns. As such, her label EMI was seriously concerned for her future as a pop artist.

However, that all changed in 1985. She returned after 18 months at her farmhouse recording studio with her weirdness intact and a song about Faustian-deals, body swapping and the power of love. Wendy Melvoin is a Grammy award-winning guitarist, producer, and songwriter who has written, recorded, and toured with some of the industry's biggest names (Prince and Sheryl Crow, to name a few).

Earlier this month, I built Wendy a new pedalboard using a Vertex Tour Compact with a TC3 riser. After taking the pedalboard on the road, Wendy stopped by the Vertex Showroom in North Hollywood to demonstrate how she's been using her new rig!

Working with Wendy was an absolute pleasure; everyone at Vertex is extremely excited to hear the music she creates with her new "Ambient Board".
