The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

Miley Cyrus has always understood that music is theater. So it's no surprise that, visiting the imaginative space that is the Tiny Desk, she transforms it into something both fantastical and true to her topsy-turvy Mileyness.

Cyrus ruled preteen hearts on the small screen before mastering pop stardom's big stages, and throughout her career she's played with sound and image in unexpected and even controversial ways. And she's never balanced pop's glorious artifice with her own soulful authenticity more self-assuredly than she does on her latest album, the rock and roll manifesto Plastic Hearts.

Here, the scene opens with Cyrus, dressed head to toe in rock-star faux fur, in what looks like a teenage girl's bedroom. But the perspective in this pink-and-purple space feels a little ... odd. As Cyrus sings, it becomes clear that this is her Wonderland – like Alice full of magical cake, she's grown to exceed her surroundings. By the end of this three-song set, Cyrus reveals that it's the adolescent enclave that grew too small for her, not the other way around.

The songs Cyrus offers are as direct and affecting as the set is whimsical. Cyrus has lately proven herself one of pop's great interpretive vocalists, and she scores another triumph with her version of Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You," a hazy psychedelic anthem that she infuses with just the edge of the next day's hangover. The two songs from Plastic Hearts that follow are her own bids at classic-rock timelessness. In "Golden G-String" Cyrus assesses her own life in the spotlight with Leonard Cohen-esque charm. And "Prisoner" is the power ballad that lets Cyrus really break out – as she leaves the tiny room — just a box, it turns out, on a soundstage – and joins her band, she's as free and self-confident as she's ever been.

After years of trying to get his rap career off the ground, Joseph Foreman (aka Afroman) struck gold with a cautionary tale about the consequences of excessive weed smoking. “Because I Got High” began gaining traction throughout the South but once it made its way onto Napster and the Howard Stern show, it became an unlikely mainstream hit. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes starred in the iconic music video and featured the track in their film “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”, and the song eventually became a #1 hit in 11 countries. VICE meets Afroman to retell the story of his perennial stoner anthem and speak to Kevin Smith about his experience being a part of taking the song sky high.

El cantante Rubén Blades tiene la costumbre de explicar el origen de sus canciones.
En el caso de “ Amor y control ” es una salsa que escribió mientras su madre agonizaba en el hospital debido a un cáncer que la llevó a la muerte.
Como muchas de sus composiciones, ésta cuenta una historia.
Aquí, Blades hace un paralelo entre el dolor de una familia que pierde a la madre y el dolor de otra familia que pierde a un hijo atrapado por las drogas.
Dice que son dos historias distintas pero, al fin, dos tragedias iguales.
Este gran artista llama, en esta pieza musical, a que los padres demos a nuestros hijos “ amor y control ”.
Lo primero es fácil, lo segundo requiere sacrificio y esfuerzo.
Control es saber dónde están tus hijos, cada minuto del día.
Control es supervisar sus estudios, la realización de sus tareas y el cumplimiento de sus deberes.
Control es conocer a sus amigos y fomentar esas amistades, si son positivas, pero manteniéndote siempre cerca.
Control es llevarlos, traerlos, esperarlos, escucharlos, observarlos, hablar con ellos, transmitirles tus valores y experiencias, orientarles y corregirlos.
Control es que tus hijos nunca se suban a un vehículo sin que tú veas la cara de quién lo conduce.
Control es que a tu casa no llegue nada, ni caro ni barato, cuyo origen tú desconozca.
Control es creerles pero sabiendo que el niño o el adolescente más santo es capaz de mentir para salvarse de un castigo.
Control es saber qué hay en la habitación de tus hijos, en su mochila, en su teléfono celular, en su computadora y en sus cuentas de redes sociales.
Amor es más sencillo, es abrazarlos, besarlos, premiarlos, que también es importante.
Pero, sin control , el amor se convierte en dolor
