American singer/songwriter Tynisha Keli Soares had a difficult start in life. She grew up in poverty in New Bedford, Massachusetts, a city known for its high concentration of Portuguese Americans. Her mother was forced to raise her and her brother alone after her father was murdered when she was just 9 months old. To cope with the loss, Tynisha’s mother chose to self-medicate with substances while also being physically abusive. Naturally, the children, which would eventually total to 4, were left to fend for themselves. Even as a small child, Tynisha knew a better life awaited her in the future. It just so happened that the vehicle to take her there would be music.

When they met and heard their voices just melt into one another, they knew they had something special. However, even an international smash hit and a platinum selling album couldn’t prevent the failure, drama and tragedy that was to follow for 90’s R&B group Brownstone.

Lyrics:

I'll tell ya what I did last night
I came home, say around a quarter to three
Still so high, hypnotized
In a trance, from his body
So buttery brown and tantalizing
You would have thought I needed help
With the feeling that I felt
So shook I had to catch my breath
Oops! There goes my shirt up over my head, oh my
Oops! There goes my skirt droppin' to my feet, oh my
Oh! Some kind of touch caressing my legs, oh my
Oh! I'm turnin' red who could this be
I tried and I tried to avoid
But this thing was happening
Swallow my pride, let it ride
And parted, but this body felt just like mine
I got worried
I looked over to the left
A reflection of myself
That's why I couldn't catch my breath
Oops! There goes my shirt up over my head, oh my
Oops! There goes my skirt droppin' to my feet, oh my
Oh! Some kind of touch caressing my legs, oh my
Oh! I'm turnin' red who could this be
I looked over to my left
Mmm, I was lookin' so good I couldn't reject myself
I looked over to my left
Mmm, I was feelin' so good I had to touch myself
I looked over to the left
Mmm, I was eyein' my thighs, butter pecan brown
I looked over to the left
Mmm, Coming out of my shirt and then my skirt came down
Oops! There goes my shirt up over my head, oh my
Oops! There goes my skirt droppin' to my feet, oh my
Oh! Some kind of touch caressing my legs, oh my
Oh! I'm turnin' red who could this be
Oops! There goes my shirt up over my head, oh my
Oops! There goes my skirt droppin' to my feet, oh my
Oh! Some kind of touch caressing my legs, oh my
Oh! I'm turnin' red who could this be

10 million dollars cash, fuck a friend
Started sipping syrup, I've been geeked ever since
Gotta keep that heat on the seat ever since
You know we talk that stick talk, that stick talk
I'm 'bout to fuck this cash up on a new toy
'Bout to fuck this cash up on a new toy
You can't understand us ‘cause you're too soft

Aug. 5, 2019 | Sidney Madden -- Back in January, Dreamville, one of rap's most formidable artist-run labels, invited a broad selection of hip-hop artists and creators to Atlanta to create the label's third compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers III — and with Bas being one of Dreamville's most reliable wordsmiths, he was, naturally, part of that momentous camp.

But, as he was smack dab in the middle of recording his verses for ROTD3, the rapper had to hop on a plane to Washington D.C. — he had a performance date he just couldn't pass up.

"Let's get it!," Bas exclaimed, after walking straight off the plane and into his Tiny Desk concert. With only a brisk run-through with his band and back-up vocalist, Mereba, the Paris-born, Queens-bred MC delivered an energetic and comical set to an office full of fiends (Bas' endearing term for his fans, which doubles as a clothing line.)

"My new neighbor's mad cool. So shout out to Peggy," Bas joked mid-set, clarifying that the lyrics in his song "Barack Obama Special," about hating his neighbors, were written in the past. "Peggy be picking up my mail when I'm on tour."

Just like his lyrically impressive and sometimes dance-inducing Tiny Desk — peep his headbanging and seated sambas throughout — Bas always balances his bravado with a relatable sense of humility. The songs performed provide a sample of his third studio album, Milky Way, a project that charts his story through the music industry thus far, taking stock of his strides and setbacks along with way. "It's all in the timing / I had to get low, I had to get low," he sings on the chorus of "Tribe."

LYRICS (FR)

J'suis pas tout seul à être tout seul
Ça fait d'jà ça d'moins dans la tête
Et si j'comptais, combien on est
Beaucoup

Tupac Shakur was killed in Las Vegas nearly 30 years ago while riding in the passenger seat of a 1996 BMW. That car was circulated for years before people realized its significance. Now, its for sale.
