Hafursey is a palagonite mountain located on the north side of Mýrdalssandur and near the Katla volcano in Iceland. The lonely Inselberg is surrounded by vast valleys of volcanic sand, sanders, glaciers, and waterfalls that render one of the most special, almost lunar sceneries in the world.

☞ About Hafursey (Yfir) by Ólafur Arnalds (Cercle Records)

« Yfir » ("Above") is a musical journey through Iceland's various moods and seasons. At times, the music swells with a powerful surge, mirroring the crashing waves against rocky cliffs or the thunderous roar of a distant volcano. Other moments evoke a sense of stillness and serenity, echoing the peacefulness found in secluded valleys and hidden fjords near the inselberg of Hafursey.

The song is the continuation of another track written by Ólafur, Undir: “We’ve been playing Undir for 5 years, and rearranged it every time for each set, changing every element one by one. Last year, we realized the latest version of Undir was not the same track that the one we originally composed! On the occasion of our Show with Cercle, I decided to take the track back to the studio, rearranging it especially for the Show to meet Cercle’s energy”.

In 2001, Cassidy was but a 19-year-old Philly rapper bubbling up through the ranks and was signed to Full Surface Records. Freeway, also from Philadelphia, had only recently joined Roc-a-fella's family, having parlayed a high school battle-rapping career into a membership in State Property after being noticed by Beanie Sigel. This legendary battle, hosted by Swizz Beatz in New York's Hit Factory studios allegedly came about after Jay-Z and Swizz placed bets on whose roster had better upcoming talent.

About Kes:
Of the many musical acts which call Trinidad & Tobago home, perhaps none embody its polyglot culture more than KES, the eclectic soca outfit behind some of modern Caribbean music’s most indelible anthems. Celebrated for Carnival hits (“Wotless,” “Savannah Grass”) and island pop jams (“Tuesday on the Rocks,” “Endless Summer”), the band has brought Trinidad to the world, sharing stages with the likes of Will Smith, Major Lazer and John Legend. For the group — charismatic singer Kees Dieffenthaler (aka KES) and his brothers Jon (guitar) and Hans (drums), along with childhood friend, Riad Boochoon (bass) —blending soca, pop, rock, reggae, calypso, dancehall and afrobeats together is one part of their greater calling: To spread good vibes. The last three years have proven to be the most successful in the band’s decade-plus-run. “Hello,” a fusion of afrobeats and soca originally released in 2017, continues to reach new audiences over two years after its release. I had the absolute pleasure of sharing this piece in LA and what a memorable class it was. I love being able to connect with the people in the room on a human level first, and let the dancing follow.

This time around performing this piece allowed me to experience another way of how stress and anxiety affects me. Sometimes I feel like I have to 'cover up' how I feel and act like everything is ok even if I am having an internal struggle. I encourage every one in this class to let their emotions out freely and let them know that they are never alone with what they may be going through.
