Demi Lovato’s ‘HOLY FVCK’ is a pure distillation of the superstar’s creative ethos: they’ve spent the bulk of their career emphasizing honesty, and their eighth studio album walks the same path. It arrives as the incredibly successful pop singer turns the page on their twenties and launches into their thirties. So it makes sense they would turn to a new sound, too. ‘HOLY FVCK’ is a rock album. The genre choice makes sense considering the project is designed as a bright stage, one on which main character Demi wrestles with some of life’s overwhelming challenges. For all to see. At 15 years old, Demi said that metal music fascinated them. Armed with well-earned creative freedom, they have the greenlight to accelerate full throttle into this not-so-pop genre that’s alway intrigued them. ‘29’ - a raw interrogation of men who prey on younger women - has kicked off a social media conversation for others to share similar experiences. For the third year, Tiny Desk concerts team up with globalFEST for a thrilling online music festival — Tiny Desk meets globalFEST.

Hosted by Angélique Kidjo, the series echoes globalFEST’s live flagship event in spirit but is centered in the framework of the Tiny Desk concert series. This collaboration presents exclusive video performances from nine artists filmed in their respective homelands, on the road and in exile all over the world. There will be three nights of concerts, each featuring three bands, on consecutive nights beginning Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. The globalFEST team wrote the following biographical information about each performer.

Bia Ferreira, Brazil
Bia Ferreira is a Brazilian singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and activist. Her music, which she defines as "MMP — Música de Mulher Preta," discusses topics such as feminism, anti-racism and ****phobia. She makes music that harnesses a combination of funky beats, reggae and soulful ballad grooves while lyrically pushing her listeners toward the discomfort that generates "movemente,” or action. Her lyrics have been described as "escrevivência,” a term Conceição Evaristo uses to “tell our stories from our perspectives.” It represents the subjectivity of a Black woman in Brazilian society.
