FT아일랜드가 정규 7집 발매를 앞두고 더블 타이틀곡 ‘BURN IT’으로 컴백 예열에 나섰다.

올해 데뷔 17주년을 맞이한 FT아일랜드. 따로 또 같이 쉼 없이 달려온 이들은 오는 7월 10일 정규 7집 ‘Serious’를 발매한다. 이에 앞서 더블 타이틀곡 ‘BURN IT’을 선공개했다.

더블 타이틀곡 ‘BURN IT’은 불가능해 보이는 것들을 뛰어넘어 새로운 시작을 모색하는 이들을 위한 노래다. 심플하게 반복되는 베이스 리프와 멤버들의 강렬한 보이스가 돋보이며, 그 뒤를 잇는 나른한 분위기의 코러스 멜로디는 귀에 계속해서 맴도는 중독성을 가지고 있다. 내 앞을 막는 건 무엇이든 주저하지 않고 태워 버리라는 과감한 가사를 통해 사람들에게 자신의 내면에 숨겨진 열정을 해방시키라고 외치고 있다. 멤버 모두 작사, 작곡에 참여해 완성도를 높였다.

음원과 함께 공개된 ‘BURN IT’의 뮤직비디오는 곡의 거친 분위기와 어우러지는 웅장한 공간, 붉은 톤의 조명 등을 활용해 그런지(grunge)한 포인트를 살렸다. 또 광활한 도로 위 노래하는 FT아일랜드와 곡을 직관적으로 표현한 퍼포먼스로 강렬함을 배가시켰다.

Seattle, Washington, 1984. A group of kids attending Shorewood High School formed a group called Sleze. And as the name suggests, they were a band of Motley Crue Wannabe’s mostly playing cover songs from some of the notable glam metal artists of the time. Sleze were looking for a singer and although Layne had already taken up playing the drums, his step-brother Ken Elmer thought he should audition so he spoke to the band's drummer to see if they would be interested.

Layne Rutherford Staley was born on August 22nd, 1967 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue to his father Phillip Blair Staley and mother Nancy Elizabeth Layne. They lived in Kirkland, a suburb East of Seattle. The pair had only been married 6 months prior, with Phil being 29 and Nancy was just 19 years old. Phil was a car salesman and Nancy was competing in Beauty Pageants.

Just a few years later, when Layne was only 7, his parents would divorce and Nancy would remarry in 1975 to Jim Elmer. This didn’t appear to affect Layne too much though as he would comment many years later “No deep dark secrets there”.

Layne was just like any other normal kid, he loved art and drawing and just doing what kids his age did. His love for music wouldn’t kick in for another few years, although he did attend his first big concert at the age of 8 years old when Elton John came to town and his new Step-Father Jim took him to the show.
