The early '70s witnessed the explosion of funky music on the U.S. music scene.

Call it urban, call it funk, call it whatever you want, but it was unlike anything that the mainstream music scene in the U.S. had seen.

Traditional R&B and soul was one thing. What came out in the early '70s was something entirely different. It was urban, it was gritty and it had attitude.

Dennis Coffey's "Scorpio, coming out in '71, epitomized that. It was a superb instrumental that just blew the doors off, with a driving rift that grabbed you and didn't let go.

And, man, could you dance to it.

What I love about this MV is watching the Soul Train dancers dance to it. THIS was Soul Train! This was the '70s! This was everything special and awesome about that decade when it came to soul & funk!!

C. Tangana's extended family basking in the warmth of sobremesa with easy smiles and effortless baile looks otherworldly after more than 13 months amid a global pandemic. But considering the Spanish rapper's past year back home in Madrid, the simplicity feels fiercely authentic. (Check his mama and tía vibing in the corner.)

This first live performance of his latest album, El Madrileño (including a global premiere of a fresh single, "Me Maten") buzzes with communal energy, spotlighting talent from across Latin landscapes. From Mexican Regional to Spanish flamenco, C. Tangana is simultaneously coming home and reaching out to bridge Latin music boundaries. He's building a community of cross-cultural collaboration, rooted in a unifying love of language and tradition, making it clear he's intent on giving everyone a seat at the table.

The entirety of the show, from impromptu harmony to string octet, hums along with a distinctly Spanish cadence, paying homage to the flamenco-infused streets the global superstar came up in. The concert's star-studded cast of Spanish collaborators, including long-time friends (producers Alizzz and Victor Martínez) and new contributors (rumba legend Kiko Veneno and flamenco-pop icon La Húngara), are each spotlighted for their contributions to the record.

All these parts compound in a room full of people with a shared desire to connect and create juntos, manifesting an authentic joy we've seen again and again at the real Tiny Desk. And at the helm is C. Tangana, humming a melody and bringing the room to life: hands, harmonies, heartbeats, perfectly in sync.

Storyline
In 1959, Berry Gordy Jr. gathered the best musicians from Detroit's thriving jazz and blues scene to begin cutting songs for his new record company. Over a fourteen year period they were the heartbeat on every hit from Motown's Detroit era. By the end of their phenomenal run, this unheralded group of musicians had played on more number ones hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis and the Beatles combined - which makes them the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music. They called themselves the Funk Brothers. Forty-one years after they played their first note on a Motown record and three decades since they were all together, the Funk Brothers reunited back in Detroit to play their music and tell their unforgettable story, with the help of archival footage, still photos, narration, interviews, re-creation scenes, 20 Motown master tracks, and twelve new live performances of Motown classics with the Brothers backing up contemporary performers.

Jimmy Henchman
In June 2012, Rosemond was charged with four crimes in connection with the death of G-Unit affiliate Lowell "Lodi Mack" Fletcher, including murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder. Rosemond is alleged to have arranged a murder as payback for the alleged assault on his son by Tony Yayo. The trial began on February 10, 2014 in a New York federal court. More than 35 witnesses testified at the trial. Closing arguments finished on March 4, 2014. The jury deliberations resulted in a hung jury on the four counts for both Rosemond and co-defendant Johnson.

Rosemond came before a jury again in December 2014 and on December 11 the jury found him guilty on all charges for the murder of Lowell "Lodi Mack" Fletcher. On March 23, 2015, Rosemond was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years by Judge Colleen McMahon. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd circuit overturned the conviction in 2016. The case was tried for the third time in 2017. Rosemond was again convicted and sentenced to life plus 30 years.

Haitian Jack
Agnant's family migrated to East Flatbush, Brooklyn from Haiti. He became immersed in the street life by selling drugs during the crack epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s. Eventually, he became a club promoter. He was also involved with singer Madonna. Agnant managed various rappers and collaborated with Wyclef Jean, who is a paternal relative. He became friends with rapper Tupac Shakur. Shakur accused Agnant of orchestrating the robbery at Quad Recording Studios in 1994 in his song "Against All Odds," in which Shakur was shot. Agnant denied that he had ordered the attack.

Around this time, Agnant was hired Director of A&R by his friend Lance "Un' Rivera, CEO of the rap label Undeas Recordings. In 1999, Agnant was hired as security by music executive Steve Stoute, following an altercation in which Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs assaulted Stoute with a champagne bottle.[9]

Following a conviction for a shooting in a Los Angeles nightclub in 2004, which led to prison time, Agnant was deported to Haiti in 2007.[3] In 2015, it was reported that Benny Boom was set to direct a miniseries on the life of Haitian Jack. In 2021, Agnant was featured in the FX documentary Hip Hop Uncovered.

He currently lives in the Dominican Republic.
