If you found yourself on Halsey’s Instagram in October 2024, you’d have a hard time finding Halsey anywhere. Instead, you’d come face to face with Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell and… oh, wait that IS Halsey! Fans have long marveled at the pop virtuoso’s world building skills (who could forget the ornate, gothic scenery of 2021’s ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power?’), but it feels like Halsey has taken the biggest creative swing of her career with ‘The Great Impersonator.’ She labels it a “confessional concept album.” As the October 25 release day approached, fans watched her inhabit a kaleidoscope of musical heroes. That was only the beginning. We decided to take the nostalgic trip one step further with these Official Live Performances, seeking to answer the questions: “What if Halsey arrived in a different time? What if she recorded in the 1970s, 80s, 90s or early 2000’s?” So we built four interconnected stages reflective of each decade - with vintage outfits and instruments to match. We captured the action on 35mm film for that timeless feel. Leaning into personal authenticity, Halsey did her own makeup. Team Vevo and Team Halsey’s long history of collaboration allowed this to be one of the series’ most ambitious shoots. The fun kicks off on album release day, and spills into the next week. "A Beautiful Morning" is a song written by Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati and recorded by the Rascals. Coming out in early 1968, it was the group's first single released under that name rather than the Young Rascals. T he song continued the theme of carefree optimism that had distinguished the previous year's "Groovin'". The song was written one morning in Honolulu, Hawaii when the band was invited to perform there by promoter Tom Moffatt. It became a big hit in the United States, reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also reaching number 36 on the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart. It was RIAA-certified as a Million Seller on June 28, 1968. The first album on which the song appeared was Time Peace: The Rascals' Greatest Hits.

Many artists who've played the Tiny Desk have come on the strength of their children. Most recently, Marvin Sapp told us, "My kids said that I had to do this." In Sasha Keable's case, it was her dad who introduced her to the Tiny Desk way back when Tom Jones played in 2009. Despite Keable's early goals, she faced a series of music industry setbacks that could have led her to quit. However, her Tiny Desk performance stands as a testament to her resilience, a victory lap in a race that's only just begun.

I discovered Keable through 2019's MAN EP; it instantly took me back to when I first heard Amy Winehouse. The music was raw and her delivery was brash, but the effortless power and range separated her from anything I was listening to. I invited her to the Tiny Desk a few months later, then COVID-19 hit, curbing the opportunity. In 2021, the British Colombian singer-songwriter released Intermission, but last year, everything seemed to click with a long string of singles that connected her with audiences across the pond and in the United States, including Beyoncé, who dropped her name in a GQ magazine interview.

Keable flew over from South London, enlisting the Slim Wav-led Band of Brothas to arrange a medley of bangers from her upcoming EP, act right, as her dad proudly watched on.

This month, it will be 21 years since Eazy E's death, and along with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lil Eazy E theorizes that his father was "gotten rid of" and alleges "foul play." Following Suge Knight's insensitive comments during a Jimmy Kimmel interview in 2003, Lil E said he retaliated by fighting Suge's nephews in high school. "High school days, I was young and dumb. A couple of his family members got the wrath of that." In this interview with DJ Vlad, Lil Eazy E reveals that he had run in to Suge while locked up in the county and explains what happened when the Death Row Records founder set up a meeting with him at the Four Seasons.
