Full concert by baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and his Big Band at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Prins Willem Alexanderzaal of the Congresgebouw, The Hague, The Netherlands on July 16th, 1982

Gerry Mulligan was one of the leading arrangers in the era of cool jazz working with Miles Davis, Stan Kenton and Claude Thornhill in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Mulligan’s quartet of the early 50’s with trumpeter Chet Baker is still regarded as one of the best cool jazz groups.
Born in New York in 1927, Mulliagan spend his life composing, arranging and playing jazz untill his untimely death on January 20, 1996.

British-Austrian percussionist Bernhard Schimpelsberger brings a deep affinity with Indian rhythm to his roots in jazz and Western classical. Many Western percussionists have dabbled with the sounds and shapes of India, but Bernhard’s detailed study sets him apart - notably his association with tabla maestro Suresh Talwalkar. He interprets the grammar of Hindustani music on a variety of drums - full kit, cajon, or whatever he can lay his hands on - as well as writing for orchestra and dance.

He has worked with classical artists including Rakesh Chaurasia, as well as fusioneers such as Anoushka Shankar, Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, and Susheela Raman, as well as the Akram Khan company and his own group Circle of Sound. 'Corner Pocket' is part of the full live concert that American jazz vocal group The Manhattan Transfer performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague, the Netherlands on 11 July 1987.

With their unique blend of voices, the sublime Janis Siegel, Cheryl Bentyne, Alan Paul and Tim Hauser bring the audience to
their feet in the The Haque Congress Building at the Netherlands’ North Sea Jazz Festival 1987.
The concert features many of their well known songs of the nine albums they had released untill 1987. They did songs from
‘Vocalese’, their most recent album at the time, as well as favourites from their earlier albums.
The Manhattan Transfer is an American vocal music group. There have been two manifestations of the group, with Tim Hauser
being the only person to be part of both. The group's name comes from John Dos Passos' 1925 novel Manhattan Transfer and
refers to their New York origins.

Jennifer Lopez wants her kids to have more control over their place in the spotlight. The superstar opened up about how her twins Max and Emme, 14, handle growing up as the children of celebrities, telling an Audacy roundtable recently that she wishes she could "protect" the teens from the public eye. "I think being the child of famous parents is not something many people can understand, and I feel for [my kids] for that because they didn't choose that," she said, adding, "They have just started letting me know how people treat them – so when they walk into the room, that's what people are thinking about. … They're not seeing them for who they are. And I think that has to be a really hard thing for them. So I would love to be able to protect them from that."

August 22, 2016 by BOB BOILEN • There's brutal honesty in the songs of Margaret Glaspy that can make them feel cold, but they're also heartfelt. That's part of what makes Glaspy a top new artist of 2016 for many of the writers here at NPR Music.

Glaspy's new album Emotions And Math, made with her band, is a huge leap from her earlier EPs Homeschool (2012) and If & When (2013), which mostly consisted of the singer and her electric guitar. You can hear Glaspy's sharp words on those older records, but now that wit and wisdom packs a confident punch — as does her guitar playing, which is no longer simply fingerpicked, but also crunched with power chords behind a newly brazen voice.

The Tiny Desk concert provides a great example of how much power can be found in simplicity and purity. Everything serves the songs here: There's no overplaying, no frills, just great music and a tremendous new artist who sounds thrilled to be playing it.
