XTC burst out of late 1970s Britain with hooks for days. While many of the punk bands around them proudly ignored anything before 1976, they took notes from The Beatles, Kinks, and Beach Boys and reformed them into pugnacious state-of-the-art pop. “Making Plans For Nigel,” “Generals and Majors” and “Senses Working Overtime” made their unique stamp on the UK Charts.

But when XTC stopped playing live in 1982, their career took a much more interesting turn. Unable to sell their Englishness to the UK, instead via calamitous recording sessions with Todd Rundgren and a dismissed b-side, XTC landed a punch squarely below the Bible Belt. This is New British Canon, and this is the story of “Dear God.”

🎤 Lyrics: Usher - My Boo ft. Alicia Keys

[Intro: Usher, Alicia Keys & Both]
There's always that one person that will always have your heart
You never see it coming 'cause you're blinded from the start
Know that you're that one for me, it's clear for everyone to see
Ooh baby, ooh, yeah (You gotta rock away to this one)
You will always be my boo
See, I don't know 'bout y'all, but I know about us and, uh (Oh!)
It's the only way we know how to rock
I don't know 'bout y'all, but I know about us and, uh (Oh!)
It's the only way we know how to rock

[Verse 1: Usher]
Do you remember, girl?
I was the one who gave you your first kiss
'Cause I remember, girl
I was the one who said, "Put your lips like this"
Even before all the fame
And people screaming your name
Girl, I was there when you were my baby

[Chorus: Usher & Alicia Keys]
It started when we were younger, you were mine (My boo)
Now another brother's taken over, but it's still in your eyes (My boo)
Even though we used to argue, it's alright (It's alright, girl, that's okay)
I know we haven't seen each other in a while
But you will always be my boo
I was in love with you when we were younger, you were mine (my boo)
And I see it from time to time, I still feel like (My boo, that's my baby)
And I can see it no matter how I try to hide (I can't hide it, my boo)
And even though there's another man who's in my life
You will always be my boo

[Verse 2: Alicia Keys with Usher]
Yes, I remember, boy
'Cause after we kissed, I could only think about your lips
Yes, I remember, boy
The moment I knew you were the one I could spend my life with
Even before all the fame, and people screaming your name
I was there
And you were my baby

[Chorus: Usher & Alicia Keys]
It started when we were younger, you were mine (My boo)
Now another brother's taken over, but it's still in your eyes (My boo)
Even though we used to argue, it's alright (My boo)
I know we haven't seen each other in a while
But you will always be my boo
I was in love with you when we were younger, you were mine (My boo)
And I see it from time to time, I still feel like (My boo)
And I can see it no matter how I try to hide (My boo)
And even though there's another man who's in my life
You will always be my...

[Bridge: Usher & Alicia Keys]
Oh, my oh, my oh, my oh, my, my boo
My oh, my oh, my oh, my oh, my boo

[Chorus: Usher & Alicia Keys]
It started when we were younger, you were mine (My boo)
Now another brother's taken over, but it's still in your eyes (My boo)
Even though we used to argue, it's alright (My boo)
I know we haven't seen each other in a while
But you will always be my boo

[Outro: Usher]
I don't know about y'all, but I know about us and, uh
It's the only way we know how to rock
I don't know about y'all, but I know about us and, uh
It's the only way we know how to rock
It started when we were younger
My boo...

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS

You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me
You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me

Holding on
Spinning out
All my faith
Turns to doubts
Hopes and dreams
Plans we had
Set ablaze
A burning crash

I hope you get all your shit back together
I hope you know only you can make you better
And there’s a world in which the two of us can still be sane
You’ll see

So let’s be honest
Let’s be honest

You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me
You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me

I tried and tried
’til it made me sick
Round and round
A toxic mix
Walls build up
You shut down
Ulcer grows
We’re bleeding out

I hope you get all your shit back together
I hope you know only you can make you better

Let’s be honest
Let’s be honest

You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me
You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me

We’re colliding
Losing hope
Can we make it further on our own?

We keep colliding
And we’re losing hope
On a one way street
Going down a broken road

Crashing endlessly

I can’t sleep
I can’t eat
There’s no rest
There’s no peace

So let’s be honest
Let’s be honest

You don’t know what love means
You’re losing me
You don’t know what love means
And it’s killing me

We’re colliding
Losing hope
Can we make it further on our own?

We keep colliding
And we’re losing hope
On a one way street
Going down a broken road

Crashing endlessly
Crashing endlessly
We keep crashing
We keep crashing endlessly

In an effort to keep you entertained in quarantine, we continue our lockdown concert series by premiering the full unseen performance footage from Nina's 2005 hit album, Nina Live!

The live album, consisting of Nina's fan-favorite cover songs that she performed in her gigs, was recorded on January 30, 2005 at PHI Resto & Bar in Metro Manila and directed by Marla Ancheta. Nina and The Essence band rehearsed for only two weeks prior to the shoot since they already knew the songs. Nina's then-labelmates Christian Bautista, Thor, and Trapp of Dice & K9 also worked with the Soul Siren for this project.

Some of the timeless love songs included in the album are "I Don't Want to Be Your Friend", "Love Moves in Mysterious Ways", "Through the Fire", Constantly, and "I Love You, Goodbye". These were subsequently awarded as the 2000s most successful singles, making Nina Live! a massive success. A week after its release, it immediately rose to Gold status, and became certified Platinum in less than a month. It was also considered to be one of the country's biggest-selling album, certifying 10x Platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry.
