"Across 110th Street" (1972) Hotney 8 Streams • 3 years ago

This is the Opening of 1972's "Across 110th Street" with RE-MIXED SOUNDTRACK: specifically instead of the original version of the song the film used, I've swapped out that track for the other more well known, more orchestrated recorded version, also with Bobby Womack on vocals, just to see hear how it would work. And man DOES it work -- albeit now minus some of those funky 70's rough edges the original version had (congas) which did give it that great 70s 'blaxplotation vibe. Anyway I've got both versions up here on the Tube so you can compare them, the original here

If you don't agree Bobby Womack just kills this song, man something is wrong with you!

Tarantino used this version of the great Bobby Womack's song in his film, "Jackie Brown". Not once, he used the song twice (!) Under the Opening credits sequence with Pam Greer seeming to float through the airport on the moving sidewalk (pretty cool shot) and then in the closing scene with Robert Foster. Both times to very good effect. More recently the same track was used in "American Gangster". So I hope Mr. Womack is catching some nice royalties.

I hope you enjoy this - it seems very popular and I cant get over the number of hits it gets.

"Across 110th Street" (1972) is one of the better Blaxploitation Films of the 1970's. It has some great 70's vibe and feel, especially for New York City and & Harlem back then.

"Across 110th Street", the song, is both well written and beautifully sung in this version - credited to "Bobby Womack and Peace". Bobby Womack is truly a gifted vocalist.

January 29, 2021 - Very sad news that legendary guitarist with The Animals HILTON VALENTINE has died. What can you say about this man who gave us so much in the world of rock n roll... it's hard to summarise but he was a beautiful, great, influential guitarist who blessed us with his talent and flair with so many unforgettable and legendary performances. Chuck Berry (!) once described Hilton Valentine as "a wildly exciting instrumentalist", absolutely yes! there was so much more to Hilton than House of the Rising Sun, please check out Hilton's stormin' performances on album tracks and live performances and you would soon hear why Chuck Berry would acknowledge Hilton in this way. Let it Rock! Hilton, we loved and admired you and forevermore thank you for all your innovative contributions to rock n roll and for your presence. Rest in Peace and Love Forever!
