Saajanwa (Official Music Video) Aanchal Tyagi | Abhijeet Srivastava | Indiea Records Hotney 8 Streams • 3 years ago

Saajanwa is a quirky and a funny outlook on modern day love. Young love comes with its own set of unpredictability, impulsiveness, and contradictions. The song captures the various moods of the lover – sometimes overflowing with romance and sweet-nothings, other times sulking on a whim, waiting to be appeased. The video is set in the backdrop of a young couple’s wedding, and presents a fully hassled bridegroom who has to deal with the shenanigans of the bride. A catchy beat, some cool lyrics and a tongue-in-cheekily shot video, Saajanwa is a definite indie vibe.

Lyrics:

Broken are the pieces
I’ve been shaping lately
Focused on the things
That didn’t make no sense
Guess that growing up
Was never meant to be easy
Yeah I got used to doing everything sideways
Didn't really care about how anyone felt
Hiding my emotions down in different ashtrays

But what is lost ain’t gone
No you can’t just let go
Cause it’s a part of you that
Will make you strong
Embrace your flaws

I’m not gonna fight back
What I’ve become
Yeah I got bruises
Where I came from
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars
I’ve been going way too hard on myself
Guess that is the reason I’ve been feeling like hell
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars

I went down a road, that only got me nowhere
I’ve seen every corner, every inch of this place
Being all alone, it really got me thinking
Maybe overthinking

That what is lost ain’t gone
No you can’t just let go
Cause it’s a part of you that
Will make you strong
Embrace your flaws

I’m not gonna fight back
What I’ve become
Yeah I got bruises
Where I came from
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars
I’ve been going way too hard on myself
Guess that is the reason I’ve been feeling like hell
But I wouldn’t change
If could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars

Hide these beautiful scars
Hide these beautiful scars

I’m not gonna fight back
What I’ve become
Yeah I got bruises
Where I came from
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars
I’ve been going way too hard on myself
Guess that is the reason I’ve been feeling like hell
But I wouldn’t change
If could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars

James Taylor - Fire And Rain (BBC In Concert, 11/16/1970) Hotney 8 Streams • 3 years ago

In this restored footage of 'James Taylor In Concert', James performs his classic "Fire and Rain" on the popular BBC series In Concert on November 16, 1970.

'In Concert' was produced by the BBC in the early '70s and featured performances from legendary acts of the time. In November 1970, James was 22 years old and his second studio album ‘Sweet Baby James', featuring "Fire and Rain", had released earlier that same year.

LYRICS
Just yesterday morning
They let me know you were gone
Suzanne, the plans we made put an end to you
I walked out this morning
And I wrote down this song
Just can’t remember who to send it to

I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days I thought they’d never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought I’d see you again

Won’t you look down on me, Jesus
You’ve got to help me to make a stand
You just got to see me through another day
My body’s aching
And my time is at hand
And I won’t make it any other way

Oh, I have seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days I thought they’d never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought I’d see you again

So I’ve been walking my mind to an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows the cold wind blows
It’ll turn your head around
Well, there’s hours of time on the telephone line
Talkin’ about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines
in pieces on the ground

Oh, I have seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days I thought they’d never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought I’d see you somehow one more time again
Thought I’d see you one more time again
There’s just a few things coming my way this time around
Thought I’d see you, thought I’d see you, fire and rain
Thought I’d see you just one more time, Suzanne

Bad Wolves - Killing Me Slowly (Lyrics):

It’s killing me
It’s killing me
It’s killing me slowly

I built these walls to hide my ghosts
Your fingers trace
The wounds exposed
I try and try to let you in
But I fail again and again

So I keep you at arm’s length and let you go
But I don’t wanna give you away
Yeah I keep you at arm’s length and let you go
But only if you promise to stay

You think you know that you know
But you really don’t know me
I know you love so hard
And it’s killing me slowly

And now I can’t eat
Can’t sleep knowing that you’re not lonely
I know you love so hard
And it’s killing me slowly

It’s killing me
It’s killing me
It’s killing me slowly

I run this maze, erase my steps
With lips that lie, with every breath
You try and try to let me in
But I hurt you again and again

So I keep you at arm’s length and let you go
But I don’t wanna give you away
Yeah I keep you at arm’s length and let you go
But only if you promise to stay

You think you know that you know
But you really don’t know me
I know you love so hard
And it’s killing me slowly

And now I can’t eat
Can’t sleep knowing that you’re not lonely
I know you love so hard
And it’s killing me slowly
Killing me slowly

You’re everything I need
I should have known, I should have known
You’re everything I need
I should have known

You’re everything I need
I should have known, I should have known
You’re everything I need
I should have known

You think you know that you know
But you really don’t know me
I know you love so hard
And it’s killing me slowly

And now I can’t eat
Can’t sleep knowing that you’re not lonely
I know you love so hard
And it’s killing me slowly

You’re everything I need
I should have known
(It’s killing me)
(It’s killing me)
(It’s killing me slowly)
You’re everything I need
I should have known
(It’s killing me)
(It’s killing me)
(It’s killing me slowly)

Raphael Saadiq | Broken Record (Full Episode) Hotney 8 Streams • 2 years ago

Raphael Saadiq is one of the great R&B writers and producers of the last 30 years. He started out fronting and playing bass in the group Tony! Toni! Toné! with his brother D’Wayne Wiggins on guitar. The Tony’s had an amazing four album run from ‘88 through 1996 with hit singles like "It Never Rains (In Southern California)," "Feels Good," "Anniversary," and "If I Had No Loot."

Raphael’s also released five solo albums starting with 2002’s Instant Vintage. His most recent album, Jimmy Lee, is a collection of very personal songs about the real traumas he and his family experienced growing up in Oakland, CA.

Raphael’s also done some amazing work behind the board. He’s produced and written for the likes of D’Angelo, TLC, Mary J. Blige, Solange, Earth Wind and Fire and just recently he worked on a handful of songs on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. He’s also earned an Academy Award nomination for his work as a film composer.

This week Justin Richmond talks with Raphael Saadiq from his studio in Los Angeles about some of the incredible work he’s done recently. Raphael breaks down his collaboration with D’Angelo on the classic track “Lady,” and how Sly Stone bassist Larry Graham influenced a generation of musicians coming up in the Bay Area.

ABOUT BROKEN RECORD
For generations of music lovers, the liner notes on albums were a central part of the way music was heard. You bought an album and it came with an accompanying narrative: a digression, an aside, a backstory—maybe even an invented history. We intuitively understood that great music required not just listening but conversation between the artist and the audience and the audience and the rest of the world.

Broken Record is a podcast that restarts those conversations—in a world without liner notes—for a new audience of music lovers.

Broken Record is hosted by Justin Richmond with interviews by producer Rick Rubin, writer Malcolm Gladwell, and former New York Times editor Bruce Headlam.
