The Beatles - I'm Only Sleeping Hotney 16 Ansichten • 2 Jahre vor

Watch the official video for The Beatles’ “I'm Only Sleeping,” directed by Em Cooper.

Beautiful harmonies, experimental recording methods and avant-garde composition combine to create this dreamlike song, evocative of The Beatles’ pioneering approach to the music of Revolver.

Artist and director Em Cooper explored the space between dreaming and wakefulness, working on an animation rostrum on sheets of celluloid. She painted every frame individually in oil-paint, a labourious process which took many months.

Get The Beatles’ Revolver into your life with the new mixes and expanded Special Editions. Available everywhere now across 5CD/4LP Super Deluxe, 2CD Deluxe, Picture Disk, 1LP, 1CD, Download and Streaming. Dolby Atmos Mixes + original mono mix accompany never-before-released session recordings and demos, plus the “Paperback Writer” and “Rain” EP.

The Beatles’ 1966 album Revolver changed everything. Spinning popular music off its axis and ushering in a vibrant new era of experimental, avant-garde sonic psychedelia, Revolver brought about a cultural sea change and marked an important turn in The Beatles’ own creative evolution. With Revolver, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr set sail together across a new musical sea.

Showcasing GRAMMY-winning original album artwork created by Klaus Voormann, the Super Deluxe CD and vinyl house a beautiful book featuring Paul McCartney’s foreword, an introduction by Giles Martin, an enlightening essay by Questlove, and insightful chapters by Kevin Howlett.

ATONEMENT – LYRICS:

Turmoil, empty faces in a whirlpool
Removing pity with a sharp tool
Seems you’re always the one to blame

Sour, crumbled, ready to devour
Broken pieces of desire
Wanted freedom, but all you got was blame

You’ve always been in chains

The final lie
The last denial
Realized, that it’s all because of you

Cannot deny
You’re standing trial
And again, it’s all because of you

Upholding your appearance for the loving
People that you owe nothing
The mutuality was never there

Storing all the criticism for you
Making sure you have no clue
Of how to regain your faith

Aspire, to be swallowed by the fire
That your ego has acquired
The deception has cut through
And it’s all because of you

The final lie
The last denial
Realized, that it’s all because of you

Cannot deny
You’re standing trial
And it’s true that it’s all because of you

Cannot deny
I can’t deny that it’s all because of you

It’s all because of you

Lakecia Benjamin: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 16 Ansichten • 2 Jahre vor

This Black Music Month, Tiny Desk is giving the ladies their flowers. We’re releasing nine Tiny Desk concerts from Black women artists, from veterans who’ve paved the way for what we hear today in Black music, to those who are carving out their own paths.

Nikki Birch | June 5, 2024
Alto saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin burst into her Tiny Desk Concert like a meteor breaching the atmosphere.

Benjamin approaches her music and performances with a take-no-prisoners attitude. After primarily performing as an accompanist, she introduced the world to her own voice. While her first two studio albums leaned into jazz-funk and soul, in 2020 she referenced her bebop and spiritual influences with Pursuance: The Coltranes, an album that brought together several generations of the genre’s luminaries to pay homage to John and Alice Coltrane. That project and her 2023 album, Phoenix, received critical acclaim, the latter earning her three Grammy nominations.

Her opening tune, “Phoenix Reimagined” is a joyous explosion that ushers you into her world, whether you’re ready or not. Her next two songs put her lyricism front and center, as she welcomed singer Melodie Ray to sing with her on “Let Go,” a song that follows the steps of jazz poetry and hip-hop, and “Mercy.” Benjamin concluded her performance with “Trane,” a song she wrote to honor the Coltranes.

Because we are celebrating Black Music Month by giving our all-women lineup their flowers, I asked Benjamin to talk about some of the women who continue to inspire her. She named a few of her mentors: Terri Lyne Carrington, Patrice Rushen and Dee Dee Bridgewater, all of whom are trailblazers in and out of Black music. I couldn’t help but think of them when she joyfully declared: “We here!”

“Trane”

Lyrics/Letra:

Call me

Te lo echo adentro adentro y no pregunto I’m sorry
