The first single „Don’t Give Up On Me Yet“ was written by Johannes and Dan Burns together via video chat. Dan and Johannes met in 2004 through their mutual friend Chester Thompson (Genesis, Phil Collins, Frank Zappa,…). The initial thought was induced by an old white lady's phone call into Don Lemon’s TV show. She said something like „I know I’ve done wrong. But I still try to change. Don’t give up on me yet.“ The resulting song is two white dudes’ view on Black Lives Matter. It, of course, can be interpreted differently and transferred onto other topics.
Johannes played guitars and sang in Dresden, Dan played drums, keys and did BGVs in Nashville. Josh Reynolds mixed and mastered it also in Nashville, just a few blocks away from Dan’s.

Lyrics:
Smoke on my clothes, liquor on my breath
Devil on my shoulder, strangers in my bed
Pills in my pocket, ashes on the floor
These bad decisions keep on knockin’ on my door
I know you think you left me all alone
I hate to say you couldn’t be more wrong, got

Copenhagen, whiskey straight and
Empty bottle promise breakin’
All of the ways I let you down, down
What went around came back ‘round to
Sunday mornin’ still asleep, and
Traded angels for my demons
I ain’t lonely since your leavin’
I’ve got me and all your reasons

Like all the lies I ever told, that changin’ never did
All the times that I was cold, all the broke you couldn’t fix
I know you did just what you had to do
You looked around and saw there wasn’t no room for you, just

Copenhagen, whiskey straight and
Empty bottle promise breakin’
All of the ways I let you down, down
What went around came back ‘round to
Sunday mornin’ still asleep, and
Traded angels for my demons
I ain’t lonely since your leavin’
I’ve got me and all your reasons
All your reasons

I know you wanna be the one for me
No wonder why you had to run from me
Hell even I done had enough of me
Now all I got to keep me company, is some

Copenhagen, whiskey straight and
Empty bottle promise breakin’
All of the ways I let you down, down
What went around came back ‘round to
Sunday mornin’ still asleep, and
Traded angels for my demons
I ain’t lonely since your leavin’
I’ve got me and all your reasons
It’s just me and all your reasons
All your reasons

Lyrics:
I scan the Parkin' lot before I walk through that door
This used to be our spot but it’s not anymore
I take that corner booth and then I hope that you won’t show up
But then you show up

(Pre):
Then you order her that drink you know I love
The one you used to order for me
I know that it’s impossible but
think of how much better I’d be

(Chorus):
If I could just unmeet you
I wouldn’t think I need to
Un-learn all the words to all our favorite songs,
You been taking up my headspace
Rent free, can’t erase our memories
I know I’d be close to movin on
If I could just unmeet you
If I could just unmeet you

(Verse):
Still got your name in my favorites on my phone
That Hoodie laced with your cheap ass cologne
Still got ya mama callin every now and then
And every now and then
I get to thankin’

(Chorus):
If I could just unmeet you
I wouldn’t think I need to
Un-learn all the words to all our favorite songs,
You been taking up my headspace
Rent free, can’t erase our memories
I know I’d be close to movin on
If I could just unmeet you
If I could just unmeet you

(Bridge):
Damn if I could rewind
Back in time
I’d never put myself through this
I know that it’s impossible but
I’d be so much better if …

(Chorus Out)

LYRICS:
It’s 7AM and I’m on a mountain with a view
I’m the only one alone at a table meant for two
Big Sur looks beautiful this morning
And I should be missing you, I should be missing you

You’re across the pond at a show, I think, in Amsterdam
And the pictures look pretty, least they do on your Instagram
We say good morning, then goodnight
I wonder if you even know where I am, where I am

I’m wearing the ring still, but I think I’m lying
Sometimes you forget yours, I think we’re done trying
I realize you loved me much more at 23
I think that this is when it’s over for me

I can’t believe I’m a few months out from 29
I can’t handle another year of you and I just being fine
I’ve shared all my secrets, and I’ve paid for all my crimes
And our stars ain’t falling back into line

I’m wearing the ring still, but I think I’m lying
Sometimes you forget yours, I think we’re done trying
I realize you loved me much more at 23
I think that this is when it’s over for me

I think that this is when I cut the ties
I think that is when I set myself free
One day you’ll ask, “When was it over for you?”

I’m taking the ring off, I’m finally crying
Don’t try to find yours, no reason to fight it
You’ll say I’m crazy for being the one to leave
Scream I’m just like my parents and giving up easy
But you never took that last flight to see me
Looks like our ending ain’t ending happily
I think that this is when it’s over for me
I think that this is when it’s over for me

It’s 7AM and I’m on a mountain with a view
I’m the only one alone at a table meant for two

Lyrics:
Well I’ve been known

To write a few songs
Lovin’ and leavin’ and gettin’ too stoned
Bottle and a pistol by my side
The devil’s always along for the ride

We ride down
To the creek by the water

I’ve been baptized

By the preacher’s daughter
Lucky for me

He never caught us tho

Oh we ride
To the bar by the levee
‘
85 jacked up
Square body Chevy

Blanket in the back
When it gets hot and heavy oh
Oh we ride

Pedal to the floorboard

She beggin’ for more

Sippin’ on apple pie moonshine
And I’ll be gone by the morning light
Yeah cuz I’ve been known
To write a few songs

Lovin’ and leavin’ and gettin’ too stoned
Bottle and a pistol by my side
The devil’s always along for the ride

We ride
Across state lines

Rubbin’ two nickels

Just tryin’ to make a dime

Hard to make a livin’
While the gas is so high

Oh we ride
Like a Harley on a two-lane

Palomino crossplane

Drop it down to four-wheel drive
On a Friday night

Crackin’ open a cold Bud Light

Oh we ride

Pushin’ through the hard love

Lookin’ for my give-a-fuck
Needle peggin 95

But that’s alright

Cuz I’m runnin’ every red light
Yeah cuz I’ve been known
To write a few songs

Lovin’ and leavin’ and gettin’ too stoned

Bottle and a pistol by my side

The devil’s always along for the ride
Oh we ride

Oh we ride

Yeah cuz I’ve been known
To write a few songs

Lovin’ and leavin’ and gettin’ too stoned

Bottle and a pistol by my side

The devil’s always along for the ride

Yeah I’ve been known
To write a few songs

Lovin’ and leavin’ and gettin’ too stoned
Bottle and a pistol by my side
The devil’s always along for the ride
Oh along for that ride
The devil’s always along for that ride

This might be as intimate as hearing Katie Crutchfield sing in her basement. That's where she and her sister would play guitar, write and sing songs 10 years ago, when she was 14. Katie and Allison Crutchfield had a band back in Birmingham together, The Ackleys; these days, Katie performs as Waxahatchee, while Allison's band is called Swearin'.

The songs Waxahatchee brought to the NPR Music offices aren't just stripped down for this Tiny Desk Concert, this is Katie Crutchfield as Waxahatchee, spare and exposed; this is what she does. Sometimes there's a drummer (her sister's boyfriend Kyle Gilbride) and at other times another guitarist, her boyfriend Keith Spencer (both play in Swearin'), but even on Waxahatchee's second album, Cerulean Salt, there are plenty of bare-boned songs. This is intimate music for an intimate setting, as we got to stand in careful silence, listening intently and capturing this frail and powerful performance. --BOB BOILEN

Disable Planets were seen as a group at the forefront of an image Hip Hop was supposed to be. Cool like that was top 15 on Billboard, their album went gold and the group were still in a happy place. All things looked bright for the future of Hip Hop as long as we had groups like this creating. What I like most about Digable Planets were while they certainly had the opportunity to excel in a music industry that at some point began to illuminate and sort after how many albums did you sell or what could make them the most money, they stayed true to the art form of hip hop and didn’t compromise their creative journey just to be the highest selling artist. For them they were creators through music that respected the listeners and wanted to give us music lasting longer than a hit song of the summer or billboard topping single to propel their sales. In the end that thinking may have hurt them, as music did evolve, and a leading element of its evolvement was finding ways to best capitalize financially of the art being put out and only interested in artist willing to play the game. Digable Planets only release 2 albums together that were both received well critically, but shortly after the second album, they disbanded and hip hop was robbed of great music that could’ve lasted the rest of the 90s. Lyrics:

[Intro]
There's a hurricane, and it's on the way
I've been sitting in this house for days
I'm in here waitin' on the flood
I've been hanging out and holding on
To every word of our favorite song
These headphones, are thicker than blood

[Chorus]
If I could hitch a ride on a time machine
I would bring you right back here with me
And I wouldn't have to watch you disappear
Even though I said all the things that mattered most
While I held on tight to the end of the rope
I could keep you close, but I couldn't keep you here
A lot can happen in a year

[Verse]
Giving in not giving up
Maybе I didn't care enough
I wish I could let you know somеhow

[Chorus]
If I could hitch a ride on a time machine
I would bring you right back here with me
And I wouldn't have to watch you disappear
Even though I said all the things that mattered most
While I held on tight to the end of the rope
I could keep you close, but I couldn't keep you here

[Bridge]
A lot can happen in a year
A lot can happen in a year
A lot can happen in a year

[Verse]
Keep looking up not looking down
You won't find the answers in the ground
So where will we be 12 months from now

[Chorus]
And if I could hitch a ride on a time machine
I would bring you right back here with me
And I wouldn't have to watch you disappear
Even though I said all the things that mattered most
While I held on tight to the end of the rope
I could keep you close, but I couldn't keep you here
A lot can happen in a year

Since its arrival in October, “Love Back” has amassed over 10 million streams for rising pop stars Why Don’t We. To create the track, the boy band enlisted a few outside songwriters: James Abrahart, Jeremy Dussolliet, and producers Jackson Foote and Johnny Simpson. Why Don’t We member Daniel Seavey also earns a writing credit. This marks a change of pace for Why Don’t We, who wrote and produced their 2021 sop****re album, 'The Good Times and The Bad Ones,' themselves.
