Carol Douglas - aka Carolyn Strickland and Carolyn Cooke - was born in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. She is the daughter of Minnie Newsome, a jazz performer who has been cited as the inspiration for the Cab Calloway classic "Minnie the Moocher"; Douglas' father was a mortician. Sam Cooke was Douglas' cousin. At the age of 10 Douglas was a contestant and winner on the game show Name That Tune and says "Ebony followed my career for the next three years".
Douglas attended the Willard May School for professional children and afterwards the Quintanos High School for young professionals alongside Gregory Hines, Bernadette Peters, Carol Lynley and Patty Duke. While in high school Douglas sang in a female trio named April May & June who were signed as a management client by Little Anthony and the Imperials.
Douglas made a one-off recording in 1963 for RCA Victor cutting the single "I Don't Mind (Being Your Fool)" under the name Carolyn Cooke: becoming pregnant with her first son at age 15 ended RCA's interest in promoting her.
Douglas also cut several jingles for TV commercials - "[I] used to do voiceovers for Ideal Toys and General Mills with Bernadette Peters" - but recalls: "I never thought I would be a singer", and for most of the 1960s Douglas pursued an acting career, appearing in an episode of her classmate's The Patty Duke Show but mostly acting in theatrical productions beginning with One Tuesday Morning starring Clarice Taylor. Later Douglas understudied Jonelle Allen in the off-Broadway production of The Life of Mary McCloud Bethune and co-starred with James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson in the play Moon on a Rainbow Shawl.

Do you wanna be my girlfriend?
I’ll take you to a movie that we’ve already seen
Or sit at home and watch reruns
There’s no other place I’d wanna be
Do you wanna be my girlfriend?
Do you wanna be my boyfriend?
We’ll walk the cemetery and I’ll kiss you again
And make our dead friends blush
We’ll be getting married right there on the scene
Do you want to be my best friend?
You can drive me crazy all over again
And I’ll bore you to death
Doesn’t matter when we are in love
Do you wanna be my boyfriend?
You’re not just any type of girl
My one true love and you’re my world
Do you wanna be my girlfriend?
Do you wanna be my boyfriend?
Do you wanna be my
Do you wanna be my girlfriend?
Do you wanna be my boyfriend?
Do you wanna be my

MEMORY REVOLVING
THE FEAR OF LETTING GO
THE ARROW OF ACCEPTANCE
THE MOMENT WHEN YOU KNOW
AND WHEN THE ANSWERS ONLY DIVIDE
WHEN YOU NEVER QUESTION THE DOUBTS IN YOUR MIND
WHEN THE DISTANCE GROWS BUT THE END IS IN SIGHT
NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE WHEN THERE’S NOTHING LEFT TO FIND
NOW ALL THAT’S LEFT BEHIND
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ME BY
OH THE FEAR, THE SLOW DIVIDE
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ME BY
ALL THE SILENT SIGNS
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ME BY
TWO SIDES, A DOUBLE LIFE
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ME BY
I’VE GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME
BUT CHANCES COME AND GO
YOU SAY THAT I BELIEVE MY LIES
BUT NOW YOU’LL NEVER KNOW, YOU KNOW YOU WON’T
AND WHEN THE ANSWERS ONLY DIVIDE
WALKING IN A CROWD AND I LEAVE YOU BEHIND
BACK INTO THE DARK WITH THE LIONS OF NIGHT
NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE WHEN THERE’S NOTHING LEFT TO FIND
NOW ALL THAT’S LEFT BEHIND
NOW THE FEAR THE SLOW DIVIDE
SEEING ALL THE SILENT SIGNS
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ME BY
NOW ALL THAT’S LEFT BEHIND
NOW THE FEAR THE SLOW DIVIDE
SEEING ALL THE SILENT SIGNS

In this YouTube video, we embark on a fascinating exploration of the history of Big Wreck, the Canadian-American rock band that emerged from Berklee College of Music in 1992. The group, comprising guitarist/vocalist Ian Thornley, guitarist Brian Doherty, bassist Dave Henning, and drummer Forrest Williams, had diverse musical influences that shaped their distinctive sound.
Thornley's upbringing in Toronto exposed him to folk and blues music, influencing his gravitation towards melodies. His early interest in Led Zeppelin's folkier side and harmonies of groups like Supertramp laid the foundation for Big Wreck's unique musical blend. Thornley's classical piano background and a brief detour into basketball added further dimensions to his musical journey.
The quartet met at Berklee, where Thornley's penchant for noise infractions led to dorm-hopping and eventual collaboration with his future bandmates. Their focus on groove over technical chops defined their approach to music. Leaving Berklee, they became full-time musicians and adopted the name Big Wreck, though its origin remains unclear.
The band's eclectic influences, ranging from metal to jazz, southern rock to Supertramp, made categorizing their sound challenging. Often labeled as post-grunge, proto-progressive, or progressive, they drew comparisons to diverse acts like Soundgarden, The Who, Collective Soul, and more.
Big Wreck faced a challenging start, playing countless gigs, selling tapes, and enduring numerous rejections from record labels. A three-year touring stint across Canada and the eastern U.S. laid the foundation for their debut album.
Their breakthrough came unexpectedly when, attempting to cross the border, they faced complications due to Thornley's expired visa. Stranded in Toronto, Thornley shopped the band's demo, catching the interest of Management Trust, the same company managing The Tragically Hip. This connection opened doors, leading to a recording deal with Atlantic.
The band's debut album, "In Loving Memory of…" (1997), produced by Joseph Puig, featured tracks like "The Oaf" and "That Song." The former, created in a spontaneous jam session, became a significant hit. Despite success in Canada, the album struggled in the U.S., echoing the pattern seen with The Tragically Hip.
The video explores the band's challenges, influences, and the dynamics of their success. Thornley's outspokenness on the state of rock music in the 2000s and his relationship with MuchMusic personality Rebecca Rankin add personal dimensions to the narrative.
The story takes a turn with the band's second album, "The Pleasure and the Greed" (2001), marked by experimentation and challenges in an evolving music landscape. The video covers the dynamics within the band, their perspectives on commercial success, and the changing industry landscape.
Big Wreck's breakup in 2002, attributed to various pressures, internal issues, and external factors, sets the stage for Thornley's solo career. The video delves into Thornley's solo albums and his audition for Velvet Revolver, providing insights into his musical journey during the band's hiatus.
The narrative takes an unexpected twist with Big Wreck's reunion in 2010, driven by Thornley and Doherty reconnecting. The video highlights their third album, "Albatross" (2012), and subsequent releases, as well as the tragic passing of guitarist Brian Doherty in 2019 due to lung cancer.
The exploration of Big Wreck's journey serves as a testament to the band's resilience, evolving sound, and enduring impact on the Canadian rock scene. The video encapsulates the highs, lows, and the enduring spirit of a band that continues to shape the landscape of rock music.

Spacehog -
Spacehog would be frequently labelled as a glam inspired band and they would emerge out of nowhere during the mid 90’s. Most people know them for one song - ‘In the meantime’. The song was prominently featured in the trailer and soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and the video games guitar hero 5 and rock band 3 as on disc tracks. Spacehog would tour with some of the biggest rock bands on the planet including Oasis, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, and Red Hot Chili Peppers in addition to releasing four studio albums. Despite all being from the UK, the members with the exception of the brothers never met there and didn’t have as much success back home, instead becoming bigger in America. It resulted in some in their home country of writing them off as an American band.. But like i’ve asked so many times on my channel. What happened to Spacehog?
The history of Spacehog begins with the Langdon brothers Antony and Royston. Antony is older. Both of them were raised in Leeds, in the UK. The brothers came from a musical family performing in church choir and playing in bands together. Their early musalical influences would include the beatles, David bowie, queen and, led zeppelin. Royston always had dreams of living a glamorous life something he chalked up to his mother who frequently bought vogue magazine. He’d see images of well dressed models getting out of expensive cars and they seemed more like the types of people favored cocktails over beer at the local pub. Couple this with growing up in the 70’s and Royston revelled in the atmosphere of gender bending and dressing androngynosluy , even admitting to sometimes wearing his mother’s makeup. He apparently even showed up on an 80’s tv show that was like a battle of the band’s format for his group the Raspberries.
Antony meanwhile was a restless spirit, soon leaving Leeds and he found himself living in Switzerland, Hong Kong and London before he followed his girlfriend to New York City by the early 90’s. That girlfriend would later dump him in 1994. Royston feeling bad for his brother opted to pay him a visit in new york to cheer him up. Royston at the time was playing in a band who was on the verge of getting a record label deal with a company called Rhythm King, but he wasn’t happy in the band and also hated the british music press. He would tell The Toronto Star “I was dreading all the small minded, students with angst-and acne kind of writing about us…You can be one of the NME darling bands and then six months later they’re slagging you off and printing funny pictures of you.” A few days prior to Royston arriving in New York Antony met drummer Johnny Cragg at an espresso bar, where the drummer worked as a barista and a rat killer. Cragg at the time was living with a friend sleeping on his floor and only came to America after being bored in England wanting to leave behind his partying and drug lifestyle. He’d also admit he also across the ocean in search of rock n’ roll, something he couldn’t find back home. The drummer was offered a job to clean a basement of an espresso bar, only to later learn it was rat infested. It turned out the espresso bar shared a basement with a pharmacy and the rats were nesting in old boxes of medicine, but it made his job easier as the rats were high on downers.
While working at the espresso bar in march of 1994, Cragg overheard someone talking in a leeds accent and that person happened to be Antony.. The two struck up a conversation and started jamming together and Royston showed up not long after. The seeds of Spacehog would be born. Royston would front the group and play bass, while his brother played guitar. Royston’s initialy plans were to just visit his brother for a a week or so but his plans changed. Royston had already written a number of songs for his old band and was enthralled by new york city so the timing felt perfect telling songfacts
I think New York's a great place for people that are curious. New York will always be a great place

Lyrics:
(All I need is for you to be mine)
Some people save for a diamond,
Some people save for a ride,
Breaking backs for a place in the city,
Like that'll keep them satisfied.
I don't need your bread or your butter,
What I want don't cost a dime.
I need this more than a number,
All I need is for you to be mine.
If you're gonna be saving up,
Save your love for me.
If you're gonna be saving up,
Save your love for me.
If you're gonna be saving up,
Save your love for me.
If you're gonna be saving up,
Save your love for me.

Sing-A-Long
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.
Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.
I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Today’s feature although not a music artist is still one of the most important figures we’ve ever had in hip hop, partially responsible for one of the biggest hip hop labels of all time in Rocafella records, and also had a hand in helping the careers of some hip hop greats like State Property, Dipset, Kanye West and of course Jay-z. Speaking of Jay-z, we’re all aware of the relationship he and Dame Dash currently have, where they went their separate ways business wise and personally, after entering the game together in 1994 as artist, manager and business partners, pooling their funds along with 3rd party Kareem Burke to help Jay-z rise to fame and rap notoriety when no one believed in and wanted to sign him as far as the music labels who couldn’t envision him becoming a star. At the time Dame did, and was his number 1 supporter and fan. It was a dream come true for all parties involved and the fans to have them whole, as they were on their way to creating arguably the greatest possible rap label and entity of all time. Not to mention the other creative endeavors they would created with both their minds together. They famously broke up and parted ways beginning in 2004 when Rocafella was sold to Def Jam and Jay-z then took position as president of that label. But let Dame tell it, Jay-z had plans to fly solo all along. It led to Jay-z responding to Dame and everyone else that believed he made Jay-z on his 2006 album “Kingdom Come” and the song “Lost One” by saying basically if you feel you’re so responsible for who I became, then why don’t you go on a make another me instead of continuing to focus on losing me. That never happened. 3 Reasons Dame Dash Couldn’t MAKE ANOTHER HOV! Stunted Growth Music

Statement from Colin Meloy:
We were searching for a video idea for “Once In My Life” that would somehow capture the spirit of the song. In my mind, the song is a meditation, a plea to the cosmos that I imagine everyone, at some point or another, has made. We asked our old friend and collaborator Autumn de Wilde to pitch an idea and she came to us with a simple but powerful story: a depiction of her brother Jacob, a man who has lived with physical and intellectual differences his entire life, dancing in the streets of Los Angeles. The song, in this light, becomes more than just a “celebration of sadness,” (which I have sometimes called it) but suddenly a longing holler to the universe against one’s perceived otherness.
This idea is particularly close to me as I’ve witnessed how the world sees my son Hank, who is autistic. When I’m out in public with Hank, I’m acutely aware of the world’s attachment to social and behavioral norms; in these situations, Hank’s otherness can suddenly be put in stark relief. Through the lens of Jacob’s joyful and defiant movement in Autumn’s video, we see a man shrugging off the constraints of an unaccommodating and judgmental world and truly reveling in his body and mind.
Statement from Autumn de Wilde:
My brother Jacob is 7’2”.
His feet are size 22.
He has Auditory Processing Disorder.
He likes to dress up as Chewbacca.
He is not a basketball player.
This video is my love letter to him.
My mother said to me recently when we were talking about the way the people tend to react to Jacob, someone who looks and sounds extraordinarily different from their opinion of what normal is: “When we see someone new or different, we have to stop thinking about ourselves for a moment in order to really experience them. As humans, we tend to want to put our fingerprints all over other people.”
The Decemberists’ song “Once In My Life” is the song I needed when I was young.... when I felt stared at, mocked or unseen for my heart and mind. Jacob also had an immediate emotional reaction to the song when I played it for him the first time. I had been wanting to explore a creative collaboration with my brother for a while, and this was the perfect song.
I have a very strong connection to Hank Meloy, Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis' son, who is autistic. He has very much inspired my mind and imagination as an artist and a thinker. Although Jacob and Hank's bodies and diagnosis are very different, Jacob, Hank and all of us who look different, sound different, or think different have a connection in our experience of otherness. There are many of us who feel sometimes like we live in a sort of dollhouse for the wrong doll but our perspective can shift dramatically when we realize, in fact, that our difference has simply redefined the space we are in. My brother is in his 40's and his long journey to achieve the comfort and understanding in how he moves, communicates and connects to others is inspiring to me. Self-love and acceptance are the real superpowers waiting for all of us.
Everyone featured in the video and working on the crew is a friend who gave 100% to this project. I wanted Jacob to be surrounded by friends who were committed to helping him tell this story, but also create a safe space for Jacob, which changed our pace and usual process for filmmaking. It was thrilling as a director and a sister to challenge Jacob and myself. I am honored to have put the spotlight on him, watched my brother flourish as an artistic human onscreen and show us how gorgeous different is.

LYRICS:
Another stab that I couldn't see coming
This is where the take off really begins
Never allowed yet never need to return
Inside the flames of bridge you've forced to burn
Hey you wanna drop me out?
Without a word, so leave me I don't care
Hey you better shut me out
If you care, kill me if you dare
As you once told me lies
Reflection of your mind
Words so divided, dropping out of lines
Story unfolds
Designed to the bitter end
Nothing more to say
Kill me if you care
You start to feed your perilous lust
Can't you feel the thrill?
Anything at all? No…
All wired for the charming sense
You don't know what you're living for
God save you now…
Hey you wanna drop me out?
Without a word, so leave me I don't care
Hey you better shut me out
If you care, kill me if you dare
If you dare…
As you once told me lies
Reflection of your mind
Words so divided, dropping out of lines
Story unfolds
Designed to the bitter end
Nothing more to say
Kill me if you care
If you dare…
Hey you wanna drop me out
without a word, so leave me I don't care
Hey you better shut me out
If you care, kill me if you dare
As you once told me lies
Reflection of your mind
Words so divided, dropping out of lines
Story unfolds
Designed to the bitter end
Kill me if you care…
If you never told me lies
Reflection of your mind
Words so divided, dropping out of lines
Story unfolds
Designed to the bitter end
Kill me if you care
It’s what I’ve been living for, to see the story unfold
It’s what I fear, yet all I care

Royal Blood – Lights Out Lyrics
Every time I’m with it alone
It picks me up
You just send me down
I can feel it rushing under my skin
You’re a cage won’t you let me in?
On my toes
Lock the door
Pretty face
Through the walls
Don’t know if I’d be so sure again
I think I’ve found it my only friend
My eyes are still burning red
So turn the lights out
You’re not so hard to forget
With all the lights out
Every time I’m stuck in the ground
Spin me round, won’t you spin me round
You’re a void, a crack in the mirror
See me now, if you could see me now
You slipped through
The night
Then walked out
Skin tight
But you don’t matter that much to me
No you don’t matter that much to me
My eyes are still burning red
So turn the lights out
You’re not so hard to forget
With all the lights out
So turn the lights out
Just turn the lights out
My eyes are still burning red
So turn the lights out
You’re not so hard to forget
With all the lights out
About Royal Blood
Brighton duo Royal Blood comprising drummer Ben Thatcher and bassist/vocalist Mike Kerr formed at the beginning of 2013. They quickly made their presence known, with pounding drums and heavily distorted bass guitar defining characteristics of their ferocious blues-rock sound. The band gained many plaudits early in their career, touring with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Iggy Pop and Foo Fighters, before going on to win Best British Group at the Brits in 2015 receiving their trophy from their musical hero and admirer Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.
Their catalogue boasts the Mercury Prize nominated self-titled debut album released in 2014 that spawned hits such as "Out of the Black, "Little Monster:, "Come On Over" and "Figure it Out", as well as their second successive UK number one album "How Did We Get So Dark?" released in 2017 which featured "Lights Out" and "I Only Lie When I Love You".
