Lyrics:

Highway highway
Last thing you’ll see is smoke
Cuz I’m moving on
You took all the love I gave and left me all alone
I’m traveling on this road
Somewhere far from home

I put in all I had and I paid every god d*mn toll
I’m trying to make it off this highway highway
Won’t you take me home for a minute
I swear it won’t be long
Highway highway
Won’t you take me home for a minute
It’s lonely on this road
I been lost on this highway
Tryna figure out life on this road

Sh*t lost all the love that I had in my soul
Tryna chase everything that was shiny and gold (huh)
Ran away from my problems I know
Now I’m stuck on this highway with nowhere to go
Wonder if I call back will I get to come home
If I promise to right everything that I wronged
But this road kinda bumpy
Tank on E and my bank acting funny
All those times you had told me you loved me
I tripped out I see why you called me a dummy
Now I’m stuck in the worst space
Shouldn’t have played with your heart in the first place
Yes I still do remember are first date
Had you smiling like it was your birthday but I must say

Highway highway
Won’t you take me home for a minute
I swear it won’t be long
Highway highway

Won’t you take me home for a minute
It’s lonely on this road
I get it
I get it
I get it
All I saw was me but your vision was bigger
Alone on this highway your spirit I feel it
I meant it when I said your love was the biggest
Filled up my tank with the thoughts of your image
On the road tryna race to you dodging these tickets
For kisses just hoping to fulfill your wishes
I’ll listen I'm on the road back to your city

Highway highway
Won’t you take me home for a minute
I swear it won’t be long

Highway highway
Won’t you take me home for a minute
It’s lonely on this road
Highway highway

Today, Jay sits down with Madonna for a rare and intimate conversation that goes beyond her iconic career into the spiritual foundation that has carried her through life’s greatest challenges. For nearly 30 years, Madonna has walked a spiritual path that has shaped her resilience, fueled her creativity, and defined her sense of purpose. Madonna opens up about what first drew her to seek deeper meaning, the practices that became her lifeline, and why she believes spirituality has been the true key to her strength, longevity, and fulfillment.

Together, Jay and Madonna dive into themes of transformation, the search for meaning in suffering, the freedom that comes with radical acceptance, and the power of forgiveness to heal our deepest wounds. Madonna shares the moments that tested her most, from loss and betrayal to near-death experiences, and how each challenge became an opening for growth when she chose to see it through the lens of purpose rather than punishment.

In the second half of the conversation, Jay and Madonna are joined by her longtime Kabbalah teacher, Eitan, for a powerful exploration of spiritual wisdom in action. They discuss why our struggles and inner battles are essential for growth, and how to reframe challenges as opportunities to reveal greater light. Eitan offers practical tools, from pausing and embracing discomfort to practicing “certainty beyond logic,” to help us find strength in life’s most difficult moments.

In this interview, you'll learn:
How to Build a Spiritual Practice
How to Find Meaning in Suffering
How to Escape the Victim Mentality
How to Practice Radical Acceptance
How to Forgive and Let Go
How to Manifest with Consciousness
How to Teach Kids Spiritual Awareness
How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
How to Discover Your Soul’s Purpose

Every one of us will face moments of doubt, loss, or uncertainty, but those moments are not the end of our story, they are invitations to grow into something greater. The challenges we experience are not punishments but lessons, guiding us back to our true selves.

With Love and Gratitude,
Jay Shetty

Occasional sun flares showcase the beauty of Colorado near the main entrance of the Aspen Ideas Festival campus. Our crew decided to shoot here despite the nearby traffic and bustle of activity; the gorgeous view far outweighed the risk of noise.

The All-American Rejects lead singer Tyson Ritter took off his shoes and made himself comfortable in the grass as our crew worked to level the incline of the hill with a carpet-covered plywood board. At the start of the show, the band members walked up the dusty Meadows Trail, but had to pause for a moment to catch their breath. Ritter joked to the audience, “Can we all just take a breath together? We need some oxygen.”

Close to 8,000 feet, many of us struggled with the high altitude. But once the musicians collected themselves and started to sing, their delivery was strong. And even though this set includes most of the band’s greatest hits from the early aughts, it’s energetic, fresh and fun.

This Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, NPR Music celebrates artists from all corners of Latinidad with an 'El Tiny' takeover.

Anamaria Sayre | October 2, 2025
Rubio's electronic-pop music is full of ambient sound, but at the Tiny Desk, her flow is reborn. Enchanting strings and piano bring darker tones, evoking the mountains of Chile. In these sweeping arrangements, she casts a new spell.

As punk as she is rock as she is classic in her approach, her biting lyrics and deeply varied musical sensibilities on songs like "Lo Que No Hablas" and "Seres Invisibles" are as effective as they are gripping. From shrillness to quiet, it's in the spaces of discomfort that her star emerges — she was made to shine brightest in a space like the Tiny Desk.

(Thanks for the gift, E)

It's a great day, I made a hunnid racks
I just checked my bank account and did jumping jacks
This nigga C just called me with some fucking Act
I can't listen to your rap 'cause it's a bunch of cap
I'm in an Escalade V, this bitch a crybaby
I'm going Louis head to toe, nigga, I'll buy Macy's
I told the bitch, "Stand in line," she gon' die waitin'
I did five fish before I went to prison
Might go 580, no, the 680, I need the 'frigerator
I got Louis on, but I might just put on Rick later
First time I shot a gun, I was a sixth grader
This nigga fucked my bitch, did me a big favor
Me and J just drunk a deuce, might drink a six later
She let me bust her down, 6 AM to suck my dick later
They shot him with a K, turned to a big baby
Bust a boat down to all eighths, call me Big Baby
I'm the Pac- Man, if my bitch can't make me happy, bet the Act can
I learned some good advice from a crack head
If there's a will, it's a way, but I'm not track man
She gave me head in a Urus truck, while the black lit
I grabbed her head too hard, now her track missing
I stand on business and talk shit, I'm not a rap nigga
I just got some big bones, I'm not a fat nigga
We got 4 .308s on us, but I'll scrap with you
Knocked his ass out, then drank a pint and took a nap with him
Don't rap about that shit, you not a crack dealer
And please don't say shit about no drink, you wasn't an Act sipper
This nigga J just bought another bag of rubber bands
If I can't fuck the bitch, I bet my brother can
If bro can't fuck the bitch, I bet my cousin can
They shot some niggas up, that's what my cousin said
He dropped a 4 on the fifth floor, feel like Brother Man
He gon' shoot the Glocky dry, he gon' get us out that fuckin' jam
This a Glock with a switch, it might fuckin' jam
I bumped into a female CO, that's how I fucked in jail
They beat him in the neck, nigga, tucked his tail
They hit him with a TEC, that's how he fuckin' fell
I got real anthrax, you better not touch the mail
Bring me a body scale, I'm finna bust a bail
It's a great day, I made a hunnid racks
I just checked my bank account and did jumpin' jacks
This nigga C just called me with some fuckin' act
I can't listen to your rap 'cause it's a bunch of cap
I'm in an Escalade V, this bitch a crybaby
I'm goin' Louis head to toe, nigga, I'll buy Macy 's
I told the bitch, "Stand in line," she gon' die waitin'
I did five fish before I went to prison, might go 580

LYRICS
I saw your green hair
Beauty mark next to your mouth
There on the subway
I nearly had a breakdown

A few weeks later
Somebody wore your perfume
It almost killed me
I had to leave the room

It's just another day
And it's not over till it's over
It's never over
It's just another day
And it's not over till it's over
It's never over

Til I don't look for you on the staircase
Or wish you thought that we were still soulmates
But I'm still counting down all of the days
Til you're just another girl on the subway

Made you the villain
Evil for just moving on
I see your shadow
I see it even with the lights off
I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain't gone
Well, fuck this city! I'm movin' to Saskatchewan

It's just another day
And it's not over till it's over
Oh til its over
It's just another day
And it's not over till it's over
It's never over

Til I can break routine during foreplay
And trust myself that I won’t say your name
But I'm still counting down all of the days
Til you're just another girl on the subway

She's got, she's got a way
She's got a way, she's got a way

She got, she got away
She got away, she got away

She's got, she's got a way
She's got a way, she's got a way

She got, she got away
She got away, she got away

She's got, she's got a way
She's got a way, she's got a way

She got, she got away
She got away, she got away

She’s got, she’s got a way

She’s got a way, she’s got a way

She got, she got away

She got away, she got away

This Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, NPR Music celebrates artists from all corners of Latinidad with an 'El Tiny' takeover.

Anamaria Sayre | September 25, 2025
The song that opens Chuwi’s Tiny Desk is quick, coy and questioning. In staggered vocals, keys and percussion, the Puerto Rican band gently tells a story about a life well-lived, but something lingers. “Que me faltara,” they all sing. What am I missing? This is a common theme throughout Chuwi’s music — that the members love their family, their island, their home — but, like many Puerto Ricans, they still seek something better: “un guarapo de jengibre y un Puerto Rico libre.”

Chuwi is a collection of family and friends from Isabela, Puerto Rico. (If you caught any of Bad Bunny’s historic residency, Chuwi was the backing band every night for “WELTiTA.”) They come from the western side of the island where bomba, plena and salsa are injected into people’s veins. The band harmoniously incorporates all of these influences into its sound, trading ocean blues and sunset pinks for playful jazz breaks and tasteful synthesizer effects. Chuwi’s members build a landscape of their home wherever they go, making it feel as though the something missing is and always will be irrefutably theirs.

Kara Frame | August 1, 2025
On a cold and snowy night this past winter, Sierra Hull and her band brought bluegrass to Washington, D.C. Despite the frigid temperatures outside, barefoot fans danced as if at a summer music festival. Ever since she first picked up the instrument at a young age, the mandolin virtuoso has captivated audiences; it’s no surprise that she still owns the stage two decades later.

At the Tiny Desk months later, her set features four songs from A Tip Toe High Wire, her latest album. “Boom” and “Lord, That’s a Long Way” showcase her incredibly fast, finger-picking abilities. Before performing the third song, Hull tells the audience, “My granny lived such a crazy life in her 80 years that we got to have her. I didn’t get to play this song for her before she passed, but I did tell her I was writing a song for her called ‘Spitfire.’ ” Hull’s granny experienced the Great Depression in rural Tennessee, was widowed twice and buried a son — she lived a life of hardship, but remained resilient and rebellious in the face of it all.

Hull digs deep in her songwriting, admitting that sometimes she doesn't know what a song's about until it's done. That's the undercurrent of "Muddy Water," which encourages its listener to show yourself as you truly are; Hull now knows that she needs to hear that wisdom as much as us.
