R&B legend Johnny Gill recently made an appearance on VladTV, where he offered a glimpse into his upbringing and his early start in music. Gill, a member of the multi-platinum group New Edition, recounted having been born and raised in Washington D.C. in a strict household with three older brothers where his father was a Baptist minister. A wildly original indie experimentalist and a group of Korean-pop superstars get together for the first time and find common ground and mutual admiration.

Grimes is a self-taught, self-produced artist who released her first album on a small indie label more than a decade ago. Aespa is a girl group formed during the pandemic by one of K-pop’s leading labels, composed of four extremely hardworking women — Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning — who sing, dance, and have shot to superstardom over the past three years.

The pairing of the two artists might seem random, but consider this: Grimes’ love of K-pop goes back more than a decade, and she’s extremely interested in new technologies — including Elf.Tech, an AI music-software program that allows anyone to replicate her voice in their own music, and an AI girl group she created called NPC. When Aespa debuted during the pandemic, they made the most of everyone remote-living by introducing four virtual counterparts for the girls. The virtual members are part of carefully crafted lore woven into the group’s videos and lyrics, and they’re called the æ members — a letter, coincidentally, that’s used in the names of two of Grimes’ children.

Two stars connect for a heartfelt conversation about breaking barriers, protecting their peace, and how they both balance Mexican and American cultures.

The first order of business when Thalía and Becky G meet up at New York’s Power Station is what music the two pop stars are going to play in the background of their photo shoot. Quickly, the room decides on Bad Bunny, and within minutes, “Tití Me Preguntó” is pounding through the sound system, getting both artists dancing. Thalía’s voice suddenly pipes in for one memorable line of the song: “Mi primer amor se llamaba Thalía!” (“My first love’s name was Thalía!”) She and Becky burst into laughter.

Ever since Thalía invited Becky to guest on one of her songs back in 2015, the two have stayed close, reaching out to compliment each other and trade advice. The contours of their careers are almost uncannily similar, despite being generations apart: Thalía, who began performing in 1981 when she was around nine years old, released her first solo album in the Nineties — and became a ubiquitous figure in Latin living rooms everywhere by starring in classic telenovelas like Marimar and María la del Barrio. Becky, meanwhile, began acting around age nine before kicking off a music career with hits in English like “Shower,” from 2014. From there, she leapt into Latin markets, making pop and reggaeton hits in Spanish, and settling into a discography that’s been bilingual and completely eclectic.

In the inaugural episode of the “Lunch with Lindsay" #podcast, Lindsay Czarniak sits down with #countrymusic singer-songwriter Eric Church and #nascar racecar driver Chase Elliott. To begin their conversation, Chase and Eric commiserate over their shared winter sports injuries. Chase discusses his recent snowboarding injury and how it’s impacted his NASCAR schedule. For his own part, Eric Church broke his shoulder snowmobiling on his family’s latest vacation and carried his son, who was also in the accident, for several hours to ensure he was safe.

After swapping stories, Lindsay explores Eric and Chase’s personal outlets and the different ways they step away from the stage and the racetrack for their peace of mind and mental well-being. For Eric, that once meant chainsawing (yes, chainsawing), while Chase tells Lindsay about his desire to continually find fun outside the NASCAR standings in order to conserve his competitive fire. Listen as both men talk about the need to release steam from the “pressure valve” while operating at the highest levels of their profession.

As they continue chatting, Chase reveals to Lindsay that Eric Church, well-known for his country song “Talladega,” is one of his favorite musicians and shares the connection he’s made with Eric’s lyrics, as well as his fascination with the country music songwriter’s creative process. But where these two really connect is in their relationship to fame. In Eric’s case, it really started after the release of the “Chief” album and the subsequent Eric Church Tour, which skyrocketed him to fame overnight. Chase, to some extent, has always been in the limelight as the son of Winston Cup Series champion and former NASCAR driver, Bill Elliott, but describes to Lindsay how he leans on his family to remain grounded and focused on NASCAR results.

Two uniquely personable MCs, from two different generations, go deep on their come-up, fighting hate with love, and that time Pharrell got too high and left Snoop alone to produce Stevie Wonder.

Latto and Snoop Dogg are preparing for their Musicians on Musicians cover shoot at Hollywood’s historic United Recording studios, when Snoop shouts out a song he’d like cued up: “Can we turn on that ‘Rip me out the plastic, I’m actin’ brand-new?’”

Latto lets out a yelp like she just won a Grammy, overjoyed that Snoop Dogg knows the opening bars to her single “Put It on Da Floor.” Though they just met, the two get along like old friends. They rap “Put It on Da Floor” together, with Latto excitedly ad-libbing. Snoop records a video for Latto’s mother (it turns out, he’s Latto’s mom’s “only celebrity crush”). When Latto is about to put her red Solo cup of tequila down for the shoot, Snoop tells her to stay true to herself, and keep it.

That juxtaposition of the glam and the down-to-earth — Latto clad in a GCDS dress and shoes, Laura Lombardi earrings, and a vintage Givenchy necklace while holding a house-party staple — points to why the 24-year-old is so magnetic. She’s stylish and regal, but she’s also got party-starting bangers like “FTCU,” which she and Snoop sing at the top of their lungs during the photo shoot. As she reveals during her hourlong conversation with Snoop, the Ohio-born, Atlanta-based rapper had been performing in talent shows since she was a child (and won The Rap Game reality show in 2016), which means she was already seasoned when she broke through with 2019’s Queen of Da Souf. Mariah Carey (and DJ Khaled) jumped on the remix to her single “Big Energy” in 2022, helping make it a smash hit, and Latto had her first Number One this year with “Seven,” her collaboration with Jung Kook of BTS. She’s on her way toward the stratosphere of stardom, which is why Snoop’s advice on navigating fame means so much to her.
