The Greek heavy and hard rock scene has a much longer and busier history than most people would think. Legendary bands of the 1970s, such as Aphrodite’s Child and Socrates Drank the Conium are proof that psychedelia and rock have been flourishing in Greece for decades. Yet, when it comes to the genre that is nowadays identified as “stoner rock”, the band that is credited for having pioneered it in Greece is Nightstalker. They formed as a heavy rock band in 1989, at a time when the alternative rock scene of Greece was starting to make waves with bands like Honeydive, Deus-X-Machina, The Last Drive and Make Believe in Athens, and Ziggy Was in Thessaloniki, and when the world-renowned metal monsters of Rotting Christ and Septic Flesh were putting out their first albums. With influences that ranged from Black Sabbath and Monster Magnet, to the early dirty sound of the Seattle underground and even the groove of RHCP (just listen to “What your name is” on their classic EP “Side FX” in 1994), Nightstalker were one of the first bands in Europe to record and perform music described today as “stoner rock”. Although the band rejects that label and prefer to call themselves a rock band, there is no doubt that they inspired many bands and laid the foundations of what is known today as the Greek Stoner Rock scene.

In the years that followed, and especially during the 00's, a number of bands rose from the Greek underground, like Planet of Zeus, 1000Mods, Villagers of Ioannina City (VIC), corroborated with independent labels like Lazy Dog Records, Spinalonga Records and The Lab Records (among many others), with underground live venues like An Club in Athens (once described as the Greek CBGB) and X-Club in Thessaloniki (nowadays Eightball Club). More recently, tens of new bands have come along, such as Naxatras, Puta Volcano and Deaf Radio, with distinctly new psychedelic, alternative, grungy and progressive rock sounds, incorporating influences all the way from the Palm Desert Scene to the golden 90s scene of Seattle, and even drawing on classic rock and metal. In the past few years, Greek bands have been touring in Europe, with some reaching as far as the USA and Australia. In 2019, a documentary directed by the Spanish director Miguel Angel Cano Santizo described the explosion of the underground music movement in Greece as a “Greek Rock Revolution” (with 8.2 on IMDb). At the moment, there are numerous bands in the broader stoner heavy rock genre throughout Greece, pushing their sound to new directions and bringing forward new amazing albums, every day, even as we speak.

"Estes Park is a special place to me and Maddy. We love the peace and tranquillity we experience there. It was a total coincidence that it became the location for my album stream.

With one week to go before the release of the album, we had been frantically searching for the right location. Estes came up on Friday 27th Jan. I’d just left home for a triple-header weekend of shows - Phoenix, Chicago and Indianapolis. The following Tuesday I was packed, back on the plane, and flying out to Denver.

We met our host (Steve) and production crew Dan and Austin half way up the mountain where the cabin resided. Steve had to drive us the final 20 minutes in his snowcat - one of those tank’esque vehicles used to groom ski slopes. It was pitch black outside and looked like we were riding the edge of a cliff the whole way up. To add to the adrenaline, petrol fumes were leaking into the passenger cabin for the duration of the ride which began to get a little concerning when we saw rainbow-colored fog accumulating on the windows… We made it… barely alive… cooked fajitas, drank margaritas and prepared for the shoot at sunrise!

The morning presented my first look at the view. I was and still am blown away by the beauty. I could have looked at it all day. Steve’s cabin can be found on AirBnb. It’s super cosy inside and surrounded by 33,000 acres of nature, wildlife, and no other humans.

The set includes every album track, some brand new material and some exclusive edits of some of my older catalogue. Hope the beauty of the scenery combined with the music is a blessing to you.

Yotto likes walks in the park, nights by the fire, and deadpan stares across dinner tables. He also likes to produce electronic music. In 2018 he released his acclaimed debut album Hyperfall, accumulating over 40 million streams to date. This followed his debut on the BBC's iconic Essential Mix, to add to his 5 ‘Essential New Tune' nods from Pete Tong, and 3 ‘Hottest Record In the World' selections on Annie Mac's show. In this VladTV Flashback from 2022, Spice 1 spoke about his relationship with the late rapper Pimp C, who Spice 1 said he connected with in the 90s after they signed to Jive and were featured on the “Menace II Society” soundtrack. Spice 1 explained that he just clicked with Pimp C, and he went on to speak about Pimp C being unapologetically outspoken.

This led to Spice 1 addressing dissing Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert, and he explained that the younger generation needs to show respect to the artists who opened the door for them.

Usher brought out Babyface and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men during the final show of his Las Vegas Residency. Usher began by discussing how he was discovered in the 90s and how that led to working with Babyface. Babyface then joined Usher on stage to sing Two Occasions and End of the Road. The duo became a trio when Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men came out to sing End of the Road as well. This clip was recorded on New Years Day 2022 in the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

Summary:
On this date, Bill Graham assembled a stellar roster of bands to participate in the filming of a television special called Welcome To The Fillmore East for broadcast on educational channels. Short sets were filmed by the Byrds, the Elvin Bishop Group, Sha-Na-Na, Van Morrison, and the Allman Brothers Band, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Bill Graham and the Fillmore East staff at work.

The Allman Brothers performance is nothing short of spectacular and features the original lineup that included Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Recorded six months prior to the legendary Live At Fillmore East double album set, this performance captures the Allman Brothers when they were a relatively new band, full of youthful passion and performing what would become classic original material when it was fresh and new.

Following Bill Graham's introduction, they kick things off with a tight performance of "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'," which features the band's friend, Tom Doucette, blowing harp over the group's trademark sound. Gregg's vocal is barely audible, but it's obvious the group is full of fire. "Dreams," which follows, slows things down a bit and the group establishes a relaxed groove that showcases their trademark sound, blending elements that would eventually come to define "Southern Rock."

They hit their stride on the next number, Dickey Betts' "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed." Here, the dual guitar attack of Allman and Betts is astounding. The two guitarists intertwine and synchronize in a manner nothing short of telepathic, creating a melting pot seasoned with elements of jazz, rock, country, and blues into a style utterly their own. The set ends with a ferocious take of "Whipping Post" that features outstanding melodic bass playing from Berry Oakley, with both Duane Allman and Dickey Betts soaring over the propulsive rhythm section. Shorter than the expansive versions that would develop in coming months, this is all the more fascinating for it, as they compress an incredible amount of energy into the time allotted.

Time constrictions and vocal microphone malfunctions aside, this is still a fascinating performance. This original lineup of the band was certainly one of the most innovative and captivating bands to ever play the Fillmore.
