This thundering version of Mississippi Queen, Live in the studio at WITF Pennsylvania, USA shows the band at their peak power. They are sufficiently stimulated for the experience and giving it their all (except the keyboard player, wtf). This version is *much* better than the album version and the live version at NY Pop later in 1970, and is undoubtedly the best version of the song anywhere. This is the Holy Grail of MOUNTAIN relics.
All stoner and doom bands are foam in the wake of MOUNTAIN.
Audio remastered by me to remove some tight-q 500hz and 250hz, soft boost 80-120hz and 5-7k. No added compression.
It sounded worse before, believe me. In all likelihood, this performance was tracked and mixed quick and dirty on TV gear, stored for a decade, duped to VHS, improperly stored for more decades, poorly converted Analog to Digital before a cousin of Leslie's (not verified) uploaded the vid to Facebook where the remaining quality was assassinated. I did my best to remove the honk of the 250hz and cupped mids at 500hz-550-ish, where the keys where resonating loudly and totally dominating the mix. This eq move of mine unfortunately thinned the guitar slightly. It must have been monstrous live. The stringed instruments are both fuzzed by band beating the absolute hell out of the front end of the amps, and also by the peaked inputs of the recording gear, which is why the vocals have gained a perfect amount of velvet distortion. It was mixed *VERY* hot. The kick drum is not present anywhere in the spectrum where it can be made more apparent without messing up the bass tone. I have two decades of experience in commercial studios as a tracking and mixing engineer, but this mastering job was done in ten minutes at home through Logitech headphones and a Bose TV bar speaker. A somehow fitting final insult to the engineering aspect of this this god-like performance by MOUNTAIN.
I hope you enjoy it as much and as often as I do. Please comment below if you would like to discuss any of the following...

Songs in the Key of Life, Stevie Wonder's 1976 double LP that would top the Billboard 200, sit on the chart for 46 weeks and garner him four Grammy Awards, was the starting point for the CBS/Grammy tribute concert at L.A.'s Nokia Theater on Tuesday (Feb. 10) night.
Six of the landmark album's 20 tracks -- yes, we're counting the bonus 45 of the original issue -- made it into Tuesday's show, which ultimately reveals the breadth of Wonder's songwriting skills and the depth of his message of love.
Wonder, who closed the evening with an eight-song set, spoke at length about love, holding a Ghanaian piece of jewelry that held back his dreadlocks. "Find a symbol to wear love on your head, on your heart," Wonder told the sold-out house of 7,000. "Love is king and queen. Love is the key you have given me, and I am so thankful for it."

2015 Grammy Performances Ranked From Worst to Best
The evening began on a raucous note with Beyoncé and 10 male singer-dancers taking liberties with "Fingertips," Wonder's first No. 1 single back in 1963, which segued into a duet with Ed Sheeran on "Jammin." Then Gary Clark Jr. joined in, providing a power surge on "Higher Ground."
Highlights included Janelle Monae, India. Arie and Jill Scott bringing a slow boil to "As"; John Legend and Jennifer Hudson exquisitely handling their ballads; and Lady Gaga and the house band led by Greg Phillinganes tearing up "I Wish."
Usher & Stevie Wonder Perform 'If It's Magic' at Grammys
While all of the singers delivered wishes of love and thanks, Andrea Bocelli was the only one to note the difficulty of singing Wonder's songs. And he had one that, at least superficially, seems easy -- "I Just Called to Say I Love You."
"I have loved this song and when I decide to sing it, Jesus!" Bocelli said. "Many notes, many difficult things. I did my best to say I love you."
CBS will air the concert special Monday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m. ET.

James Brown performing "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" Live at The L'Olympia, Paris - November 25, 1967!
No one had the feelin' quite like James Brown did. From his early start singing in a prison gospel group, to his transformation into "Soul Brother No. 1" in the late 1960s, to ultimately claiming the title of "The Godfather Of Soul," James had the feelin'. And it was so real and so powerful that it jumped the color barrier and grabbed hold of black and white audiences alike.

Wer oder was war also zuerst da?

On May 5th, 1985 the Apollo's renovation is celebrated with a 50th Anniversary grand reopening and television special, "Motown Salutes the Apollo." and was hosted by Bill Cosby.
The Manhattans are an American popular R&B vocal group, with a string of hit records spanning four decades, their best known million-selling songs being "Kiss and Say Goodbye" and "Shining Star" in 1980. The Manhattans, originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, formed in 1962 with members George "Smitty" Smith (Born Dec 18, 1939 Florida), Edward "Sonny" Bivins (Born January 15, 1936 Macon, Georgia), Winfred "Blue" Lovett (Born November 16, 1940 New Jersey), Kenny "Wally" Kelley (Born Kenneth Kelley, January 9, 1941, New Jersey), and Richard "Ricky" Taylor. Bivins, Lovett, and Kelley were graduating from Lincoln High School, while Taylor and Smith were graduating from Snyder High School.[2] All five enlisted in the armed forces and came together as a group following their discharges from their respective branches. The group's first single was "For the Very First Time," released in 1964 by Carnival Records. They continued recording successfully with songs written by various members of the group. In 1968, the group received the "Most Promising Group" award by NATRA. In 1969, the group moved to the De Luxe record label, a subsidiary of King Records, subsequently embarking on a college tour. While playing at Kittrell College in North Carolina, the group met another group, the New Imperials, featuring Gerald Alston, nephew of The Shirelles' lead singer, Shirley Alston-Reeves. They were so impressed with Alston that they asked him to join the group, but he declined. The current line-up of the group, since 1991, remains as Bivins, Hardy, Hemphill, Pazant & Williams. The original Manhattans led by Bivins released the CD Manhattans Now in 1994. In 1996 the group formed their own full service music corporation company called Manhattan Entertainment Inc. In 2003 and 2007 they were featured artists in two theater plays, Girl He Aint Worth It and The Chicken Shack. In June 2013 the group released a Single called " Just For Tonite" written by Bivins & Pazant. They are currently in the studio with producer Leroy Burgess recording a new CD. It is to be released in the Spring of 2014.
The Cadillacs were an American rock and roll and doo-wop group from Harlem, New York, active from 1953 to 1962. The group was noted for their 1955 hit "Speedoo", which was instrumental in attracting white audiences to black rock and roll performers. The group came together as The Carnations in 1953, with the members Earl Carroll (lead vocalist), Bobby Phillips, Lavern Drake (bass vocalist), and Gus Willingham. As the group moved into the recording studios, James "Poppa" Clark was added as a fifth member, and the name "The Cadillacs" was given to them. The group's first recording came in July 1954, with Josie Records #765, featuring Gloria and Wonder Why. The Cadillacs were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
The Drifters are a long-lasting American doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group. They were originally formed to serve as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter (of Billy Ward & the Dominoes) in 1953.
There have been 60 vocalists in the history of the Treadwell Drifters line, including several splinter groups by former Drifters members (not under Treadwell's management). According to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame: "Through turmoil and changes, the (original) Drifters managed to set musical trends and give the public 13 chart hits, most of which are legendary recordings today." Matching that feat, subsequent formations of the Drifters managed to give the public 13 Billboard Hot 100 top 30 chart hits.
The Temptations are an American vocal group known for their success with Motown Records during the 1960s and 1970s. Known for their choreography, distinct harmonies, and flashy wardrobe, they were highly influential to R&B and soul music. The group formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan under the name The Elgins. Having sold tens of millions of albums, the Temptations are one of the most successful groups in music history. As of 2013, the Temptations continue to perform and record for Universal Music Group with one living original member, Otis Williams, still in the lineup.
The Four Tops are an American vocal quartet from Detroit, Michigan who helped to define the city's Motown sound of the 1960s. The group's repertoire has included soul music, R&B, disco, adult contemporary, doo-wop, jazz, and showtunes. Founded as The Four Aims, lead singer Levi Stubbs (born Levi Stubbles, a cousin of Jackie Wilson and brother of The Falcons' Joe Stubbs), and groupmates Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton remained together for over four decades, having gone from 1953 until 1997 without a change in personnel. The Four Tops received The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 51st Annual Grammy Awards.

James Brown performs "Please Please Please" to a live audience on the TAMI Show.
"Please, Please, Please" was written by James Brown and Johnny Terry and released as a single on Federal Records in 1956, it charted #6 R&B. It was the group's debut recording and first chart hit, and became their signature song.
The TAMI Show is a 1964 concert that included performances by numerous popular rock and roll and R&B musicians from the United States and England. TAMI stood for both "Teenage Awards Music International" and "Teen Age Music International". The concert was held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 28 and 29, 1964. Free tickets were distributed to local high school students. The best footage from each of the two concert dates was edited into the film, which was released on December 29, 1964. The TAMI Show is particularly well known for James Brown's performance featuring his legendary dance moves and explosive energy.

From The Parliaments to Funkadelic to Parliament Funkadelic to the P-Funk All Stars, George Clinton has conducted the mothership as a reliable father figure. When he commands you to "put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip, and come on up to the Mothership," he's presenting to you the first law of Funktonian physics. We at NPR pledged our groovellegiance when he and his P-Funk All Stars touched down to bless the Tiny Desk.
Clinton has brought his own bloodline into the most recent lineup of P-Funk: His grandchildren are the newest backup singers, while another grandchild serves as tour manager. Though this was a much smaller outfit than their traditional stage shows — no horn section, no dancers, no Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk — the extended family was also in full effect. Garrett Shider on rhythm guitar, filling in for his late father, Garry Shider, aka Starchild. Even original trumpeter Bennie Cowan, who still tours with the group but didn't make it to the Tiny Desk, typically plays alongside his son Benzel on drums. Blackbyrd McKnight and Lige Curry cement the foundation as elder statesmen who've been rocking with Clinton since 1978.
Indeed, the funk father refuses to let the musicianship slip — the band was as sonically tight as ever, blessing us with a canonical three-song set list of classic jams. P-Funk's influence shaped '90s hip-hop and culture immeasurably; without Clinton, we'd have no NWA, no G-funk, no Tupac, no EPMD, no Ice Cube... and, of course, no one's forgotten about Dre. Clinton and P-Funk brought world class funksmanship, and it was our pleasure to air the room out and squeegee the floors after soaking up their cosmic slop.

“We spoke out against racism, hunger, gangs, crimes, and turf wars, as we embraced all people with hope and the spirit of brotherhood. It’s just as apropos today.” - WAR
