Foo Fighters have become one of the biggest rock bands of recent times, Dave Grohl is often seen as the face of the band and if it wasn’t for his time with Nirvana, Foo Fighters probably wouldn’t even exist.
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins sadly passed away on March 25, 2022. He was found unresponsive in a hotel room. He was just 50 years old.
Grohl has also been in Queens of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, and collaborated with dozens of other artists. Most notably with Lemmy of Motorhead when he recorded his Metal side project Probot, in 2004.
Few bands can say they’ve sold millions of albums as well as playing the iconic Wembley Stadium in the UK, Foo Fighters however, are one of those bands and this is their story.

John Leckie is an English record producer and recording engineer. His production credits include Magazine’s Real Life (1978), XTC’s White Music (1978) and Dukes of Stratosphear’s 25 O’Clock (1985), the Stone Roses’ The Stone Roses (1989), Radiohead’s The Bends (1995), Cast’s All Change (1995), Muse’s Origin of Symmetry (2001) and the Levellers’ We the Collective (2018).
Leckie began work at Abbey Road Studios on 15 February 1970 as a tape operator, later graduating to balance engineer and record producer. During his early career he worked as a tape operator with artists such as George Harrison (All Things Must Pass), John Lennon (John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band) and Syd Barrett (Barrett). He moved up to the desk to be balance engineer for Pink Floyd (Meddle and Wish You Were Here), for Mott The Hoople’s album Mott and Paul McCartney and Wings’ Red Rose Speedway and the single “Hi, Hi, Hi”. Other engineering sessions at Abbey Road at this time were with Roy Harper, Soft Machine, Sammy Hagar, Jack Rieley’s Western Justice album and the last recordings with Syd Barrett.
His first job as producer was Be-Bop Deluxe’s third album Sunburst Finish, a collaboration which continued with Modern Music, Live! In The Air Age and Drastic Plastic. In 1977 Leckie produced The Adverts’ Crossing the Red Sea with The Adverts, Magazine’s Real Life, and Doctors of Madness’ Figments of Emancipation.
Leckie left Abbey Road in 1978 and produced albums for Simple Minds (Life in a Day, Real to Real Cacophony and Empires and Dance). For Be-Bop Deluxe founder Bill Nelson, he produced the Red Noise album Sound on Sound and Nelson’s subsequent solo album Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam (the latter unreleased until 1981). Leckie recorded the début single, Public Image for Public Image Ltd and produced The Human League’s Holiday 80 EP. Leckie’s work with XTC included producing their debut 3D single and EP, and first two studio albums, White Music and Go 2. He went on to produce 25 O’Clock and Psonic Psunspot, which XTC issued under the pseudonym The Dukes of Stratosphear in the mid 1980s.
In 1989 Leckie produced The Stone Roses’ debut album The Stone Roses. The album was voted the best record of all time on a music poll taken by BBC Radio 6 Music and features as Number 1 on the Observer Music Monthly’s June 2004 “100 Greatest British Albums”. Some months later he produced and mixed their single “Fools Gold”, which charted at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart, and in early 1990 he produced and mixed the single “One Love” which also charted at no. 4 in UK. Leckie also worked on much of the recording the Stone Roses’ album Second Coming.
In 1994, Leckie produced and engineered Radiohead’s album, The Bends, and in 1995, he produced All Change by the Liverpool band Cast. It became the highest selling album in the history of the Polydor Label.

I had to edit it due to copyright claims. Hope this stays up this time!
Enjoy.
North African guitar music in the 70s/80s was off the chain, and nobody did it better than Ali Farka Touré. As one of the first to infuse Mali's deeply spiritual traditional music with electric guitar, his distorted, hypnotic riffs bring you places you didn't think were possible.
**Learn desert guitar from the masters! World Music Method is beginning a 30-day course on Saharan guitar this September, led by Justin Adams. Previous guests included Vieux Farka Touré (Ali's son). More info here: https://worldmusicmethod.com/l....earndesertguitar-ban (Note: Bandsplaining will earn a small commission from each sign-up. That said, I have personally attended one of these lessons and they are indeed the real deal.)**

(Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds), has developed a new musical style, in which the melodrama has given way to a bare and sober sound. His texts refer to his major themes: love and religion.
Throughout the program Cave reads excerpts from his book, where we discover which elements inspired him in his writing and his music such as literature, religion, love and the role his father played in his life.
Among the topics discussed are his new song "Still your face comes shining through ".
Interview with Nick Cave at his London home.
FRAGMENTS from performances by:
- The Birthday Party, (the former Nick Cave band), Amsterdam 1981;

ME AND THE DEVIL BLUES:
Two goofy Australian musicians take to the American Blues Trail to confront the mysterious legend of the crossroads. A search for the true soul of the Blues begins... as two friends discover they are facing a crossroads in their own lives.
----------------------------------
Featuring Priestess Miriam Chamani, Ben Payton, Lena Towner and Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith.
----------------------------------
Me, Myself & iPod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20ODfVdINjo
----------------------------------
As they drive from New Orleans to Chicago, they meet with a number of Blues personalities as they try to grasp the inconsistencies and contradictions of the legend of Robert Johnson, one of the original Blues men. Johnson's legend states that he soul his soul to the Devil in exchange for extraordinary guitar talent, way back in the '30's.
Singh and Prewett's story runs parallel to the Robert Johnson legend, which is slowly pieced together as they meet a Voodoo Priestess, a former Chess Records secretary, and Muddy Waters' drummer, among other Blues personalities.
As they travel along Highway 61, the two friends explore the beautiful and varied scenery of the American South. From Jackson to Clarksdale they follow the Mississippi River, playing the Blues along the way in some genuine shotgun shacks. In Memphis, they stop by the legendary Sun Studio to record a few tracks in the studio that was home to hundreds of Blues Musicians, before Elvis walked in and introduced a white audience to the Blues.
As the two friends experience many facets of the Blues lifestyle, they come to understand that the Robert Johnson legend holds more significance to them than they ever realized, as their friendship approaches a crossroads of its own.
Over 15 years in the making, the world of improvisational rap, is explosively explored in this award wining and critically acclaimed authentic look into the life, music and history of 1990's underground hip hop culture! Packed with rare and archival footage of some of the most amazing MC's ever to bless the mic, the film features the story of MC Supernatural and his quest to become a champion, battling many in his way including his arch nemesis Craig G of the famed Marley Marl Juice Crew. Made by a grass roots co-operative of independent local community filmmakers, b-boys, DJ's, and MC's, this documentary takes us on a journey through the previously unexamined dimensions of hip hop as a spiritual and community based art form. Combining the best of independent art house cinema within the hip hop mix tape format, the film features legendary battles from New York to LA, including The Lyricist Lounge, Project Blowed, and The Wake Up Show! The artists featured in the film, from Mos Def to Notorious BIG provide insight into one of the least seen faces present in the music: improvisation and creativity. Structured with insights from the Last Poet's esteemed Abioudun Oyweole and jazz & rap historians Freestyle connects the dots from the pain and love of yesterday's poets to today's hip hop inovators. Revealing the art forms stunningly emotional outlet, whether sharing energy in a street corner cipher for block cred or a stadium's commercial rap performance full of 1,000s of paying fans. Like the Griots of Africa or the wail of Coltrane's saxophone, today's hip hop MCs all have a similar purpose: to share their experience with others hungry for truth, community and healing.

Goth is many things. It's a Germanic tribe, a style of architecture, a type of literature, of film. It's a youth movement. What ties most of these together is a sense of dark romanticism. But despite Marilyn Manson and My Chemical Romance being infamous for their adoption of gothic fashion, their music isn't what would traditionally be classified as goth. To quote Sasha Geffen of Pitchfork: “[Goth] songs were marked by echoes, distortion, minimal guitar lines, and an arch taste for the macabre; their electroshocked hair, smears of black eyeliner, and dark clothes only reinforced the vibe.”
So while any youth dressed in black with a fondness for obvious make-up can be dubbed “goth”, it doesn't mean they listen to goth music. That is a separate thing with its own sonic template. So as the nights grow increasingly cold and dark, join me in discovering how we got to the point where goth became a defined genre with a look, sound and lyrical preferences, from the early delves into darkness of "I Put a Spell on You" by Screamin Jay Hawkins, "The End" by The Doors and "All Tomorrow's Parties" by Velvet Underground, through "Dead Babies" by Alice Cooper, "In Every Dreamhome, a Heartache" by Roxy Music, "Third Uncle" by Brian Eno, "Human Fly" by the Cramps, Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division, ending with "A Forest" by The Cure and "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus This is "How Goth Became Goth".

First of all, a huge and heartfelt thank you to some anonymous synth experts who not only leant me a jaw dropping array of rare equipment, but who also gave up time from their busy schedules to show me how to use it and who even helped record it on location. I owe you a debt of gratitude, but the entire community at large does too. Thank you!
I also need to thank Gordon Reid for answering my tedious questions and for helping with the explanations of some trickier technical aspects. Furthermore, both Gordon and Sound on Sound need crediting for having already gone the whole 9-yards on the subject:

A vivid portrait of a '70s record that is still as fresh and memorable today as when it was released more than two decades ago. Pioneering pop/jazz band Steely Dan, formed by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker in the early seventies, had already secured five Top 40 albums before the release of Aja in 1977. Aja, however, was to prove to be the biggest selling album of Steely Dan's illustrious career, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard chart and spending a year in the Top 40. Becker and Fagen, renowned for their relentless perfectionism in the recording studio, recall the history of an album that was a year in the making, but rewarded with a Grammy Award and three hit singles. Steely Dan's Aja has proven to be one of the most outstanding jazz-rock albums in the history of popular music and now its story is told in this fascinating documentary.

December 1989, Ko de Korte and Tom Haarsma from The Netherlands, went to Mississippi searching for blues musicians playing the old rural blues. The aim was to record their music on cassette tapes, but they also had a small Super-VHS camera. The registrations took place in the homes of the musicians, sometimes in their bedroom. After visiting 18 musicians in 2 weeks they came back with a lot of audio tapes and 14 hours of video. November 2013, Ko de Korte and Dutch J den Hollander decided to edit a documentary of the footage. Seventeen musicians have died now, among them are Rule Burnside and T-model Ford.
Best Documentary 2015 The Life Story Of 50 Cent [New Documentary]
Curtis James Jackson III (born July 6, 1975), better known by his stage name 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, entrepreneur, investor, record, film, and television producer.
Born in the South Jamaica neighborhood of the borough of Queens, Jackson began selling drugs at age twelve during the 1980s crack epidemic.
Although he left drug-dealing to pursue a musical career, he was struck by nine bullets in a 2000 shooting. After Jackson released the compilation album Guess Who's Back? in 2002, he was discovered by Eminem and signed by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.
With the aid of Eminem and Dr. Dre (who produced his first major-label album, Get Rich or Die Tryin'), Jackson became one of the world's best selling rappers and rose to prominence with East Coast hip hop group G-Unit (which he leads de facto).
In 2003 he founded G-Unit Records, signing his G-Unit associates Young Buck, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. Jackson had similar commercial and critical success with his second album, The Massacre, which was released in 2005.
He released his fifth studio album, Animal Ambition, in 2014 and is working on his sixth studio album: Street King Immortal, scheduled for release in 2016.
During his career Jackson has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and won several awards, including a Grammy Award, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, six World Music Awards, three American Music Awards and four BET Awards.
He has pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2005), the Iraq War film Home of the Brave (2006) and Righteous Kill (2008).
50 Cent was ranked the sixth-best artist of the 2000s, the third-best rapper (behind Eminem and Nelly), and Get Rich or Die Tryin' and The Massacre were ranked the 12th and 37th best albums of the decade by Billboard.

I have taken the liberty to edit some of the rough language from this documentary. I still recommend that it be considered PG-13 due to subject matter and what is left of mature language. I just wanted to upload a more censored version since it is a great documentary, with the exception of the Elvis impersonator performing An American Trilogy at the end. Otherwise it is an awesome documentary.
