In Part 5 of Mickey Stevenson’s incredible journey, we dive deeper into his crucial role in shaping the Motown sound and mentoring some of the most iconic artists in music history. Mickey recounts his pivotal work with Marvin Gaye, a jazz singer who was pushed by Motown founder Berry Gordy to transition into R&B. Mickey, with his sharp instincts, guided Marvin to embrace the soulful style that would make him a star, helping produce some of Marvin’s first major hits, including "Stubborn Kind of Fella."

We also hear about Mickey’s involvement in the creation of one of Motown's biggest anthems—"Dancing in the Street." Originally meant for Kim Weston, the song's demo was unexpectedly recorded by Martha Reeves, leading to a historic decision that would change the course of Motown’s legacy. Mickey’s ability to spot raw talent and his knack for knowing when to push artists out of their comfort zones helped transform the music industry.

These stories are just a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes magic Mickey Stevenson helped create at Motown. With his unique approach to mentoring, discovering talent, and navigating the tough decisions that come with building an empire, Mickey’s contributions were pivotal in shaping the sound of an era.

To hear more of Mickey’s firsthand account of Motown’s rise, make sure to grab a copy of his book, and dive deeper into the stories that helped define music history.

► Lyrics:

No time left
You’re bleedin’ your last breath
Prepare for the Armageddon
Blood lettin’ I’ve no pity
Your mistake fuckin’ with me
I gave you every fuckin’ chance
But you kept pressin’ ‘til you made that fatal mistake
Now I’ve got the upper hand
I’ve suffered all I can take
It’s time to teach you what it feels like
To be brutally stepped on
Spit on basically shit on

I’ve only got one life to live
I got no more fucks to give
I’m
Merciless
Merciless
You beg and apologize
But you can see it in my eyes
I’m
Merciless
Merciless
You can cry moan and plead
And I don’t give a fuck

To you I’m just a piece of trash
A piece of trash
A virus before the mask
Before the mask
A subhuman piece of shit
Piece of shit
A dog in his vomit
Vomit
You don’t even know my name
I’m hired help
I work for you to gain and maintain wealth
But the tables turn
Now I’m on top
No chance to call your racist cops

I’ve only got one life to live
I got no more fucks to give
I’m
Merciless
Merciless
You beg and apologize
But you can see it in my eyes
I’m
Merciless
Merciless
You can cry moan and plead
And I don’t give a fuck

Skit:
Ah ah wait ah who are you
Ah what is that
Is that a blow torch
Ahhhh stop
Ugh ahhhhh stop wait stop ugh
Uhh ahhh ugh
Ahh no don’t no
Ahh ahh
Jesus help me
I’ve only got one life to live
I got no more fucks to give
I’m
Merciless
Merciless
You beg and apologize
But you can see it in my eyes
I’m
Merciless
Merciless
You can cry moan and plead
And I don’t give a fuck

Lyrics:
Cover my eyes
Best out of sight
But I ain't blind
Oh no no no no
Girl live your life
Girl live your life
Not running you down
No baby

When you realize
I was always first place baby
No duplicate can copy and paste me babe
Search for the same things in all the wrong places
Still stuck in your ways
Then cry and complain

You're stuck
Giving it all that you got
Searching for what
You should let go of your heart
You're stuck
Giving it all that you got
Searching for what
You should let go of your heart

Just the other day
Try fly straight and turn the other page
What you did truly caught me unaware
You was with him in the middle of the dance
Heartbreak hurts and I surely got a taste
Student of the game but baby that's not how you play it
Thought you'd do me proud and you'd surely use your head
And that's what you do instead
No no no

When you realize
I was always first place baby
No duplicate can copy and paste me babe
Search for the same things in all the wrong places
Still stuck in your ways
Then cry and complain

You're stuck
Giving it all that you got
Searching for what
You should let go of your heart
You're stuck
Giving it all that you got
Searching for what
You should let go of your heart

I tell you need to calm yourself
God ain't give up after making you
It ain't nothin to find someone else
So Imma let you know
It ain't nothin to let you go
But if I did decide to give you a try
I wouldn't hold back baby
You'd realize the cold truth
That you'd be stuck on me too

When you realize
I was always first place baby
No duplicate can copy and paste me babe
Search for the same things in all the wrong places
Still stuck in your ways
Then cry and complain

You're stuck
Giving it all that you got
Searching for what
You should let go of your heart
You're stuck
Giving it all that you got
Searching for what

LYRICS

Are you a man?
Cuz I’m a bitch
I’m already rich
Just looking for that mmmmm
This party sucks
I’m 'bout to ditch
Don’t even try to gi-give me shit, I’ve earned the right to b-be like this
Oh, you say you love me? that’s funny,
Well, so do I

I’m just looking for a joyride, joyride
I’m just looking for a good time tonight
Baby I want you to rev my engine 'til you make it purrrr
Keep it kinky, but I come first
Beep beep bitch, I’m outside. Get in loser for the joyride.
Making every motherfucker turn
fell from heaven no, it didn’t hurt
Beep beep best night your life
Get in loser for the joyride
Joyride
Get in loser for the joyride

Keep your eyes
on the road
A label whore but I’m bored of wearing clothes
You want kids?
well I am mother.
Don’t even try to gi-give me shit, I’ve earned the right to b-be like this

Joyride, joyride
I’m just looking for a good time tonight
Baby I want you to rev my engine till you make it purrrr
Keep it kinky, but I come first
Beep beep bitch, I’m outside. Get in loser for the joyride.
Making every motherfucker turn,
fell from heaven no, it didn’t hurt
Beep beep best night your life
Get in loser for the joyride

Don’t even
Don’t give me shit
Don't even
Cuz I’m a bitch

Don't even
Don’t give me shit
I’m a bitch
I'm a bitch

Don't even
Don’t give me shit
Don't even
Cuz I'm a bitch
Don't even
Cuz I'm a bitch
I'm a bitch

Get in loser for the Joyride

The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. Tekst:
Beetje chillen, beetje dansie
Wil mezelf opsluiten in je bed
Nooit zo lang geen wekker gezet, maar

Heb me nooit zo laten gaan

Laat me maar even kwijt
Ik ben even kwijt

Even niks aan de hand
Van Maastricht tot aan Ameland
Ik vul m’n glaasje tot aan de rand, dus
Laat me maar even kwijt
Ik ben even kwijt

Laat me maar even kwijt
Ik ben even kwijt

Te lang niet in de spiegel gekeken
M'n telefoon ook een beetje vergeten
Wat gaan we doen? Heb geen idee
Maar heb je arm om me heen

Ik wil nog even met je mee
Wil verdwijnen met z’n twee
Die ene week dat werden er vier
En we zijn nog steeds hier

Ik heb mezelf al dagen niet gezien
‘k heb de wereld dichtgedaan
Wil met jou naar nergens gaan

We hebben niks en alles tegelijk
‘k heb de wereld dichtgedaan
Laat me maar even kwijt
Ik ben even kwijt

Even niks aan de hand
Van Maastricht tot aan Ameland
Ik vul m’n glaasje tot aan de rand, dus
Laat me maar even kwijt

Hey, en als het even kan, zit ik

Suzan & Freek - Honderd keer Lyrics
Ik heb al honderd keer gedacht
Ik bel je vanavond
Ik ga je zeggen dat ik nog aan je denk

Honderd keer gewacht

Lyrics:

Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me

Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Als dat betekent dat je stiekem nog een beetje van me bent my babe

Zeg mij hoe vaak, hoe vaak
Het is jou gelukt dus, baby maak me stuk dus
Weet je houdt van kwijt gaan
Weet dat ik je uh lust
Weet je houdt van birkins
Weet hoeveel het kost dus
Zie me net als hard drugs
Oh nah

Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Als dat betekent dat je stiekem nog een beetje van me bent my babe

Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me
Oh gebruik me

Tekst:
Je bent al een paar maanden weg
Iemand anders ligt nu in je bed
Je hebt m'n vrienden gebeld
En gevraagd of het wel
Met me gaat

In verleden tijd
In verleden tijd

Zodat het even lijkt
Even niet

In verleden tijd
In verleden tijd

Zodat het even lijkt
Even niet

In verleden tijd

Official “Better Tho” lyrics:
I still believe in love
Believe in love
Even through all the misery
I still have faith and I
Have faith and know what's meant for me

Will never miss me
How about you?
That's what karma do
All without good reason
Went and fucked up the mood
And now it's just coping season
Carnage is falling through
What a waste of time

Simon says
Do yourself a favor and be on your way
You ain't got the flavor that I wanna taste
No more, had enough of that ish

It's nothing but always tryna turn it into something
Just to be dramatic though
Fronting like I ain't been there through the dumb shit
But bitch I'm doing better tho
Cause I don't need you baby I'm done
But bitch I'm doing better tho
You're mad at me
Down bad, it's deep
So sad to see
Bitch I'm doing better tho

Better than you've ever been
Better than you'll ever be
Better than just settling for someone
Who's not good for me
Good for me
I'm through with you
Always kept me down
Keep me down now

Simon says
Do yourself a favor and be on your way
You ain't got the flavor that I wanna taste
No more, had enough of that ish

It's nothing but always tryna turn it into something
Just to be dramatic though
Fronting like I ain't been there through the dumb shit
But bitch I'm doing better tho
Cause I don't need you baby I'm done
But bitch I'm doing better tho
You're mad at me
Down bad, it's deep
So sad to see
Bitch I'm doing better tho

But bitch I'm doing better tho
But bitch I'm doing better tho

It's nothing (nothing) but always tryna turn it into something
Just to be dramatic though
Fronting (fronting) like I ain't been there through the dumb shit
But bitch I'm doing better tho
Cause I don't need you baby I'm done
But bitch I'm doing better tho
