Renowned DJ and global electronic music icon, Dimitri ‘Vegas’ Thivaios, reignited the magic of vinyl with the release of his album, "Dimitri Vegas Presents Vinyl Only – Live at Tomorrowland". With this special project, Dimitri pays homage to the origins of his career and the timeless art of DJing with vinyl, recording his entire Tomorrowland set on vinyl for this exclusive release.

Dimitri’s career began in the early ‘90s, during which he would save every bit of money to build his personal collection of vinyl. Now, with this album, the producer dives deep into the rich history of electronic music, particularly focusing on the Bonzai Records era, a label that shaped the underground sounds of techno, trance, hard trance, rave music and hardcore music.

The album features 21 tracks, all carefully selected and revitalized, blending Dimitri Vegas' own remix work with exciting collaborations featuring Creeds, Per Pleks and Armin van Buuren among many others. Tracks like "Back To Earth" by Yves Deruyter, "Illegale" by The Darkman, "Calyptus" by Tranceball, "Acid Dream" by Cherrymoon Trax, and "The Age Of Love" by Age of Love are revisited in their purest form - on vinyl. Each track was chosen to capture the raw energy and nostalgia of the era, while offering a fresh, contemporary twist for today’s listeners.

At a time when DJing has become more convenient with USBs and digital files, Dimitri deliberately chose to take the harder path. By bringing vinyl back to the forefront at one of the world’s biggest festivals, Tomorrowland, Dimitri captures the raw, analogue sound that defined an era. Dimitri has captivated audiences worldwide, a recent surprise appearance by actor Vin Diesel, showcases Dimitri’s ability to keep audiences guessing. Diesel’s enthusiastic presence and participation engrossed the crowd, creating a viral moment that racked up millions of views with their genre-blending collaboration "Don't Stop The Music".

As if the album wasn’t enough, Dimitri is also hinting at a series of ‘vinyl only’ concerts next year, where fans can expect more immersive vinyl experiences.

With over 30 million social media followers and billions of music streams, Dimitri Vegas, along with his brother Like Mike, has become a global sensation. Their influence in electronic music, from chart-topping hits to collaborations with legends like David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Snoop Dogg, Tiesto, Daddy Yankee and Hans Zimmer, is undeniable. Moreover, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike have recently achieved the #3 position in the DJ Mag Top 100 for 2024.

This latest project is yet another chapter in Dimitri’s illustrious career, showcasing not just his evolution as an artist but also his reverence for the roots of DJ culture.

Brandi Carlile has a way of making any performance feel like a tête-à-tête, a deep emotional exchange between friends that just happens to take place in a crowd. Yet the challenge of bringing songs from her gorgeous new album Returning to Myself to the Tiny Desk still shook her.

"It's the kind of thing that really makes your blood run a little cold," Carlile says, laying down her acoustic guitar after the gentle "A War with Time." She then turns to the Roland keyboard mounted on the desktop and begins "A Woman Oversees," a song she and her accompanists had never before performed live.

With its arching gospel melody, the ballad gives Carlile the chance to show how she's fully grown into her voice — in every sense — in the 13 years since she last appeared at the Desk. Back then she was flanked by her bandmates-for-life Phil and Tim Hanseroth, frowning a little as she belted out heartfelt countryish rockers. Now Carlile is a bona fide superstar whose compositions feel like instant classics. She could rest in her fame, but her restless soul keeps leading her into new configurations.

Here, she gives the twins a day off and enlists the string players Chauntee and Monique Ross (aka Sistastrings) and the upright bassist Solomon Dorsey to lend elegance to fresh compositions. She brings her whole self into these songs, like the new album's title track, with its guitar part reminiscent of Heart's Nancy Wilson and lyrics about balancing family and self-care. "Returning to myself is just returning me to you," she sings of her loved ones, and of all of us lucky to witness her evolution.

There's nothing easy about the laid-back cool of Air's music. On record and for film soundtracks, the French electronic duo turns distressed dreams into symphonies plucked from cotton candy clouds — sonically light, but heavy with emotion. Yet to see Air's members perform live, everything seems so effortless.

Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel have been looking back on Air's catalog recently, extending the anniversary tour of their debut album. Surrounded by synths and keys bearing Air's block-letter logo, the band opens this Tiny Desk with "Le Voyage de Pénélope," the piano-driven, interstellar fantasia from 1998's Moon Safari. Talkie Walkie's "Cherry Blossom Girl," a sweet love song with slightly sinister undertones, gets stripped back to acoustic guitar, a sparse Rhodes melody and close harmonies.

Officially released 25 years ago, Air's score for The Virgin Suicides, Sofia Coppola's first film, still captures a specific, yet universal nostaglia. In her essay for NPR Music, writer Paula Mejía says the soundtrack has "become a reference point for film composers aiming to create more than just an atmosphere for characters to inhabit." Watching Air perform "Highschool Lover" and "Dirty Trip" behind the Desk, a collective memory occurs — not from the movie itself, but our own teenage selves re-living crushes, awkward encounters and impossible-to-describe feelings.
