Shannon Sharpe sits down with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant—renowned life coach, psychology expert, spiritual mentor, and influential voice in wellness and relationships—for a powerful and deeply personal conversation. Dr. Bryant opens up about growing up in Los Angeles with teenage parents, navigating emotional turmoil, and witnessing addiction, violence, and instability in her household. She explains how her mother’s drug use, her father’s involvement in the streets, and the pain she endured shaped her worldview, her healing journey, and her path toward becoming a leading mental health figure. She also shares why she is grateful for the examples she observed, using Cam Newton as an illustration of learning what not to do.

Dr. Bryant reflects on how these early experiences influenced her understanding of relationships, including why people choose certain partners, how childhood wounds show up in adulthood, and how she rebuilt her sense of self-worth. She speaks candidly about her father’s passing, her teen pregnancy and abortion, and the work required to forgive and break generational cycles.

The conversation shifts to her media and coaching career. Dr. Bryant discusses co-producing MTV’s Teen Mom Family Reunion, her time on Basketball Wives, and working with icons like Iyanla Vanzant and Oprah Winfrey. She addresses public scrutiny, criticism around her credentials, misconceptions about life coaching, and the differences between therapy and coaching. She also offers insight into the mental health challenges facing Black men.

Dr. Bryant and Shannon explore modern dating, breaking down healthy relationships, dating patterns, toxic cycles, submission, alpha women, finances, “princess energy,” polyamory, cheating, and why some people pursue taken partners. She also gives candid views on athletes and entertainers, marriage, prenups, red and green flags, conflict resolution, love languages, transactional dating, and whether women should shoot their shot. Dr. Bryant also speaks on Summer Walker’s viral situation and what it reveals about modern relationships.

They dive into men’s loneliness, emotional leadership, dating without fear, and balancing ambition with partnership. Dr. Bryant highlights the importance of trauma healing, boundaries, emotional maturity, and discovering self-worth.

She speaks about motherhood, why she chooses not to date men with children, the rise of older women giving birth, whether people should stay for the kids, and the dangers of settling. She weighs in on Michelle Obama’s comments about a woman president, Ayesha Curry’s criticism, and the pressures fame puts on relationships.

Dr. Bryant also breaks down her new book Mental Detox, how 50 Cent helped her secure her publishing deal, La La Anthony’s support, and the co-parenting lessons people can learn from La La. She shares her experience meeting Shedeur and Deion Sanders and discusses the mental health issues affecting Black athletes today.

A PLEA

(Civil War)
I hear it in the air
I feel it in the air
Who’s your neighbor, who’s your friend?
Ahh there’s hate all around

I dont care about your fucking politics
I don’t wanna hear about your politics
Well, he said boo
She said hooray

Now we are human beings right here
Human beings We’re here together

Come on

Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when it falls on you?

You’re scaring the kids
The beautiful kids
Ah yeah they wanna know
The children wanna know
Is the ugly coming, and the guns?
Is the army coming, blotting out the sun?
The blood red sun, the blood red sun
Ahhhhhhh concentration camps?

(Peace and Love)

My blood runs cold
I’m feeling hate all around
It’s no solution
It’s never been a solution

Come on Are you with me?
We all know what it is

Build a bridge Shine a light

Make something beautiful
I don’t care if it’s a little scrap of squiggly crayon on a paper
Make something beautiful and see somebody
Give it to somebody

I’m not being corny this shit is real

Live for peace Live for love

It’s all we got

See the god in everyone
See the god

Come on with me

(The Æther)

Everyone just wants to be loved
See the god in everyone
Everyone leaves out no-one
And everything besides love is cowardice
You wanna be brave, you wanna be tough?
Peace and love is the toughest hardest thing you can do

Build a bridge that's where the courage is

Shine your light Shine it true

Yeah

SEVENTEEN: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 7 Vues • 11 mois depuis

Suraya Mohamed | November 24, 2025
This is the very first K-pop band to play behind the Tiny Desk. SEVENTEEN’s name comes from an equation: 13 members + 3 teams + 1 group. Those three teams focus on hip-hop, vocal and performance to come together as one. SEVENTEEN (SVT for short) recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a world tour, performing in big stadiums for millions of fans (aka Carats). After their last U.S. concert in Washington, D.C., five of the members stopped by the NPR Music office to play in front of what’s likely their smallest audience ever.

Bred from an industry that’s all about a polished look and sound, these members put a lot of trust into our Tiny Desk team to be vulnerable in our space. Just like most artists that play our series, they were nervous, but you can see how much fun Dino, Seungkwan, Joshua, Vernon and Mingyu (from left to right) have as they casually talk between songs. It also doesn't hurt that the crowd — filled with screaming fans — made them feel at ease. SEVENTEEN's set features a medley of old and new songs, which is the perfect sampling of its extensive catalog, ending strong with "VERY NICE."

DK was scheduled to participate but sadly he lost his voice days before this concert. We were devastated, but it’s important to note how Joshua, Mingyu, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino not only learned DK’s parts quickly, but executed them flawlessly. It wasn’t easy for them to change the arrangements of the songs just one day before the shoot. Despite the absence of DK and the other members, we think the show turned out really well and are grateful to have hosted the members for this special show.

David Byrne: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 10 Vues • 11 mois depuis

Robin Hilton | December 1, 2025
David Byrne has a long history of staging elaborate live shows, often with a sprawling cast of musicians, highly choreographed dancing and unusual instrumentation. So when we learned he wanted to have more than a dozen performers at the Tiny Desk, playing everything from cello, saxophone and marimba to a Brazilian timbau and zabumba (not to mention various guitars and keys), we weren't sure we'd be able to fit it all in.

It turns out his latest tour, for the album Who Is The Sky?, is well designed for our roughly 10 by 11-foot space. Though Byrne and his band do normally spread out across large stages, the set design for each show is almost completely bare, without any cables or amps, and the artists wear or carry compact, custom-made instruments to make it easier to move, almost like a marching band.

It's cozy, but Byrne and his band, in matching, brilliant blue suits, squeeze behind the Desk to perform four songs, opening with the euphoric "Everybody Laughs," followed by "Don't Be Like That," both from his new album. They also perform two Talking Heads songs: "(Nothing But) Flowers," from the 1988 album Naked, and a show-stopping version of "Life During Wartime," from 1979's Fear of Music.

It was a bucket-list performance for the Tiny Desk. Afterward, as the rest of the band and crew dispersed, Byrne hopped on a rented bike for a solo ride through the District on a beautiful, fall afternoon.
