Warren G Performs Legendary Hits, Cooks BBQ, Talks Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Eminem, & NWA Hotney 145 Vues • 12 mois depuis

Shannon Sharpe sits down with the legendary Warren G, the West Coast icon who helped define the sound of 90’s hip hop and saved Def Jam from $20 million in debt with his timeless hit “Regulate.” In this unfiltered conversation, Warren opens up about his journey from Compton to global fame, the brotherhood behind the G-Funk era, and the lessons learned along the way.

With a live band behind him, Warren performs his classics “This DJ,” “I Want It All,” “Do You See,” and “Regulate,” breaking down the stories and inspirations behind each record. He recalls how Snoop Dogg originally sang the hook on “This DJ” before clearance issues led him to creatively blend Snoop’s vocals into the final track. Warren credits his love of jazz—passed down from his father—for shaping his ear for music, which later influenced his smooth, soulful approach to hip hop.

He reflects on his early years in Long Beach and Compton, forming tight bonds with Dr. Dre, Tyree, and Snoop Dogg, and how DJing, producing, and rapping became his passions. Warren shares how his breakout moment came when director John Singleton chose his record for the Poetic Justice soundtrack, leading to his signing with Def Jam. His discovery of a Michael McDonald sample inspired the creation of “Regulate,” a record that not only became his biggest hit but also financially revived Def Jam.

Warren opens up about the highs and lows of fame—buying a $120K Mercedes after tour money rolled in, later realizing he should’ve invested in property. He also recounts the business struggles that taught him to take control of his finances and undo his power of attorney. His resilience was fueled by family, especially an uncle who helped him regain stability.

Throughout the episode, Warren reflects on missed opportunities with Death Row Records, being separated from his friends over industry politics, and how he learned to build success independently. He discusses his relationship with Dre and Snoop, seeing Dre rise with N.W.A, and the bittersweet pride of watching a brother become a billionaire.

Warren remembers the loyalty of Tupac, who gave him opportunities beyond Death Row, and reveals emotional memories of Pac’s passing. He shares stories about Michael Jackson—who personally told him he loved his music—and why he once turned down meeting Prince. Warren also recalls performing at Khloe Kardashian’s birthday and producing hidden gems for artists like Young Jeezy, MC Breed, and New Edition.

He names Eminem in his top 15 and praises Kendrick Lamar as the king of his generation, carrying the torch for the West Coast. Beyond music, Warren opens up about his long marriage, fatherhood, and finding peace in his passion for barbecue. Now a pitmaster and business owner, he shares how cooking gives him balance, how he built his own BBQ line, and his plans to open restaurants.

Warren closes by talking about his new music collaborations with Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, and unreleased Nate Dogg tracks, as well as his venture as a part-owner of a Minor League Baseball team in Long Beach—a way to give back to his community. From humble beginnings to legendary status, Warren G’s story is one of perseverance, creativity, and authenticity.

LYRICS

[Intro: Rod Wave]
Mm, yeah, yeah
I was tellin' that bitch, Tee Grizzley, bitch, you gotta come to my world
You know what I'm sayin'? This that real shit
Mm, the city, woah, woah, woah
Yeah, yeah
Look, look, uh

[Verse 1: Rod Wave]
Crazy feelin' in my heart, too much on my brain
I be poppin' Perkies back to back, now I can't feel a thing
No matter what I'm feelin', I'm gon' keep it to myself
I be dreamin' 'bout unc, been seein' death since you left and
Court dates and funerals
Mama, this your baby, never stop prayin'
Soon as I go to sleep, my phone start ringin'
Soon as I find some peace, here come the blog pages
On the phone with my mama, ma, I was 'sleep when you called
I clicked over for smacker, no, I pressed one for my dog
Talked to my daughter on FaceTime, it's healin' my heart
Sometimes it get to killin' me, hope this ain't how she 'member me
Bae, I'm thug to the bone, I ain't lookin' for sympathy
I been thuggin' so long, in the street, in the industry
You know you can hit my phone if you need me
But who can I call with my back against the wall? (Ayy, ayy)

[Chorus: Rod Wave & Tee Grizzley]
My daughter askin', "Where you at? When you comin' back?"
My girl askin' me, "What's wrong? You need to relax"
So many people on my phone talkin' this and that, uh
Now, what's wrong? Leave me alone
Can't get no sleep, bitches abusin' my number
Either the tattlers got questions or bitches askin' for money
A thousand problems every time my phone ring
I let it ring, I don't know what to say (Yeah, yeah)
Uh, I don't know what to say (Yeah, yeah)
I don't know what to say (I don't even know what the fuck you sayin')
(Know what to say) Yeah, yeah (What to say)

[Post-Chorus: Tee Grizzley]
That shit ain't gon' mean nothin'
Ain't nothin' enough, it feel like
Nothin' you say even matter type shit, they can't even hear that shit, ah
[Verse 2: Tee Grizzley & Rod Wave]
I get to a check and bounce (Fuck on), niggas out here checkin' out (Niggas
out here dyin')
I was out here homeless walkin', now my wrist a car, neck a house (No cap)
Slave master how I whip the 'Bach, walk around with a million cash
I ain't posted, though, I was low with it, everything ain't for the internet (You
know?)
Miss my pops, God, please, can You just think about givin' him back?
Brodie, once that money gone, it's gone, you better remember to stack
Plugged the power to the neighbor house, we was late on bills, I remember
that
You don't get shit just for bein' real, you supposed to be, they be forgettin' that
(Fuck)
Hit the club, I ain't buy no bottles, but I hit the hood and got granny crib
remodeled (I did)
G-lock full of hollows 'cause lettin' 'em get me too big of a pill to swallow (Can't
let 'em)
Wanted to box, looked up and cases was all I had to fight (Damn)
Wanted to go to the league, I ain't make it, but I still turned out alright (I'm
cool)
Fought in school and had to fight in jail, maybe I'm the problem (Maybe it's
me)
Niggas got money in my face and left me broke, I should've robbed 'em
(Should've got they ass)
Seen my nigga was 'bout to crash out, feel like I could've stopped him (Damn)
It ain't 'bout gettin' to the top (What it's 'bout?), it's 'bout gettin' from off of the
bottom, nigga (Ayy, ayy)

[Chorus: Rod Wave & Tee Grizzley]
My daughter askin', "Where you at? When you comin' back?"
My girl askin' me, "What's wrong? You need to relax" (Yeah)
So many people on my phone, talkin' this and that, uh (What?)
Now, what's wrong? Leave me alone (Fuck on)
Can't get no sleep, bitches abusin' my number
Either the tattlers got questions or bitches askin' for money
A thousand problems every time my phone ring
I let it ring (Let me call you right back), I don't know what to say (I don't even
know what motherfuckers be wantin' to feel like, yeah, yeah)
Uh, I don't know what to say (What the fuck to say to these people, gang, like,
yeah, yeah)
I don't know what to say
(Know what to say) Yeah, yeah (What to say)
[Outro: Tee Grizzley]
Just let me go a couple days just without hearin' from nobody
You feel me? You know I'll call everybody in a couple days, man
This shit too much right now

LYRICS
[Verse 1]
We were fire
Impossible to tame
Like oil in the ocean
No way to put out the flame
We were just running
Eyes closed in the dark
Headed for a wall full speed
It’s bound to leave a mark
[Pre Chorus]
Oh and it was freedom
You hold me, I screamed your name
Through all of the madness I take the blame
And I
And I
[Chorus]
I only want you when you’re gone gone gone
Playing like we’re done done done
I love your game
Drive me insane
I only want you when you're gone gone gone
Playing like we’re done done done
I love your game
Drive me insane
I only want you when you’re
I only want you when you’re
I only want you when you’re
I only want you when you’re
I only want you when you’re gone
[Verse 2]
We love a liar
Like a moth to a flame
But I knew that it was something special from the start
Had that good bad loving in my heart
And now I need a sequel
To the movie that we made
I keep on running the scenes of us acting reckless
I just love that loving pain
[Chorus]
I only want you when you’re gone gone gone
Playing like we’re done done done
I love your game
Drive me insane
I only want you when you're gone gone gone
Playing like we’re done done done
I love your game
Drive me insane
I only want you when you’re
I only want you when you’re gone
I only want you when you’re gone
I only want you when you’re gone
[Middle 8]
I only want you when you’re gone gone gone
I only want you when you’re done done done
I only want you when you’re gone gone gone
Want you when you’re done done done
I only want you when you’re gone
Yeah you know I love to scream your name
I love your game
Drive me in insane
I only want you when you’re……..gone

Lyrics:
I don’t need anyone
That’s what you say when you’re drunk
Cover it up in a sea of emotion of waves
but I, I can still see you
If there was no consequence
Would you still be on defense
Don’t you forget it
I know you better than you know you
Your lows are mine too

And I’ll be there when you lose yourself
To remind you of who you are
And I’ll be there like nobody else
You’re so beautiful in the dark

Giving you love
Keep giving you love
Never giving you up (Oh)
Keep giving you love
Keep giving you love
But don’t look away from me
I’ll be there when you lose yourself
To remind you of who you are

Breathe with your finger tips
Fill up my lungs with your kiss
I’d be a liar
If I said that you weight didn’t weigh on me
But I’m treading lightly

Wake up your world
come melt away with me
Out of your waves
You know I’ll set you free

And I’ll wait up love
When you can’t sleep love
Cause all my life’s lying where you are

And I’ll be there when you lose yourself
to remind you of who you are
and I’ll be there like nobody else
you’re so beautiful in the dark

Giving you love
Keep giving you love
Never giving you up (Oh)
Keep giving you love
Keep giving you love
But don’t look away from me
And I’ll be there when you lose yourself
to remind you of who you are

Show me the side that you’re hiding from
Let me inside baby I won’t run
Nothing about you I can’t take
Show me the way that your heart breaks

Show me the side that you’re hiding from
Let me inside baby I won’t run
Show me the way your heart breaks

(oh yes love)

And I’ll be there when you lose yourself
to remind you of who you are
and I’ll be there like nobody else
you’re so beautiful in the dark

Giving you love
Keep giving you love
Never giving you up (Oh)
Keep giving you love
Keep giving you love
But don’t look away from me

I’ll be there when you lose yourself
to remind you of who you are

Official Lyrics:

I wear my patent leather boots
I know that I’ll run into you
I wear my blush ‘cause I’m a doll
And then I tease my hair all tall, baby
Tonight just pretend that she’s dead and gone
Tell me y’all are done
It could be so fun

‘Cause I like your look it’s so extreme
You walk the street so effortlessly
She wears you well, but can’t you see
That you definitely look better on me, yeah

I want you to dress just for me
Your Acqua Di Gio on my sheets
But you’re already on a leash
So that’s unfortunate for me, baby
Tonight just pretend that she's dead and gone
Tell me y’all are done
It could be so fun

‘Cause I like your look it’s so extreme
You walk the street so effortlessly
She wears you well, but can’t you see
That you definitely looked better on me, yeah

He looks, better, better on on me
He looks, better, better on on me
He looks, better, better on on me
He looks, better, better on on me

‘Cause I like your look it’s so extreme
You walk the street so effortlessly
She wears you well, but can’t you see
That you definitely looked better on me, yeah

‘Cause you definitely looked better on me, yeah

Lyrics:
You’re an idiot
You embody every bit of it
Even set a new precedent
Empirical
Concrete evidence
Minimal due diligence
We’ve concluded what is obvious.
You’re a Bunghole

Concrete evidence
Minimal due diligence
We’ve concluded what is obvious.
Bloody Drongo.

Your voice induces migraines
Your presence party poops the entire room

You’re an idiot and a bunghole
Oooh you are
Oooh god damn
Oooh you are
Oooh god damn idiot

Your nature is pugnacious
Your temperament deplorable
So mucous like it leaves a residue

You’re an idiot
God damn idiot
You embody every bit of it

You feel like a wet mudslide
Obnoxious gear in overdrive
A Walking talking Skid Mark Prat
A muppet and a Twit and Twat
That’s you.

Lyrics:
You already know what it is
You already know who the baddest is yeah
M to the 0 MOLIY
Never seen nobody like me
Body so nice and sweet
Body look clean body look mighty yeah
All the guys on my case
I don’t even know why I’m fine like this
Came out tonight for Time of your life
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go
Came for the vibe and the feeling is right
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go
(Tyla’s Verse)
Let’s make a movie on the dance floor, I’m not yours but I can be
Slide my way you know I can be your cameo just like candy
Eye candy, I can’t deny
Slim wid it but it’s still curvy
Ain’t said nothing yet but they heard me
Yeah they heard me
Yeah they heard me
Everybody here wants tea
Can’t be giving out the recipe
To everybody I see
To everybody that prees
Section fulla baddies
Who just wanna have fun
We don’t bother no one
Nobody badder than we
Nobody badder than we
If you came out tonight for the time of your life
That’s why your body go down
Came for the vibe and the feeling is right
That’s why your body go down
Hey you, what’s up?
How you whining your waist so fire?
How you gon shake it low like that?
You making me desire
Aye Aya
Boy you know say my hips never
Buss down bring it up so high
Calm down I don’t want any guy, just you
Came out tonight for Time of your life
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go
Came for the vibe and the feeling is right
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go down
Dance whine your body go
