"Over the Rainbow" (often referred to as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow") is a ballad, with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. It was written for the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, and was sung by actress Judy Garland in her starring role as Dorothy Gale. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became Garland's signature song, as well as one of the most enduring standards of the 20th century.
About five minutes into the film, Dorothy sings the song after failing to get her aunt and uncle to listen to her relate an unpleasant incident involving her dog, Toto, and the town spinster, Miss Gulch. Dorothy's Aunt Em tells her to "find yourself a place where you won't get into any trouble." This prompts Dorothy to walk off by herself, musing to Toto, "'Some place where there isn't any trouble.' Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It's not a place you can get to by a boat, or a train. It's far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain..." at which point she begins singing.
Sarah's accompanied by Richard Davis (Bass); Ronnell Bright (Piano); and Art Morgan (Drums).
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh, why can't I?
If happy little blue birds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh, why can't I?

The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

An unlikely and mesmerizing Beguine--in the Brit style. Anne Shelton's dusky voice teamed with the Bert Ambrose Orchestra make this a gem worth rediscovering...
Written by Jack Popplewell and Michael Carr (Recorded in November, 1941).
YOU'RE IN MY ARMS
You're in my arms and I thrill to your touch while we're dancing,
You look as sweet as the music the violins play,
I'm so foolish to cling to a thing that's no longer entrancing,
You're in my arms and a million miles away.
You're in my arms but you heart's far away while we're dancing,
Lost in a world of its own where I've no right to stray,
Why do I still pretend there's no end to our lovely romancing?
You're in my arms and a million miles away.
Wasn't it yesterday you whispered "I love you so"?
Or, was it yesterday a million years ago?
You're in my arms and I gaze in those eyes while we're dancing,
Deep in your heart I can see that our love's had its day.
So, I'll just say "Farewell", it was sweet--it was swell--while it lasted,
Bring down the curtain, we've come to the end of the play,
You and your love are a million miles away...
"Oh! Look at Me Now" is a 1941 song composed by Joe Bushkin, with lyrics by John DeVries. It is strongly associated with Frank Sinatra, who first recorded it with Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra, in an arrangement by Sy Oliver. Sinatra re-recorded the song in 1957 for the album A Swingin' Affair, this time conducted by Nelson Riddle.

September 26, 2008
Connie Haines, a petite and dynamic big band singer who performed alongside Frank Sinatra in the Harry James and Tommy Dorsey orchestras, died Monday in Clearwater, Fla. The cause of death was myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune neuromuscular disease. She was 87.
Haines was best known as a singer with a knack for rhythm, and many of her most successful recordings -- 25 of which each sold more than 50,000 copies -- featured her crisp, swinging vocal style.
When Dorsey first heard her in action with James at Frank Dailey's Meadowbrook, New Jersey's temple of big band music, he reportedly asked, "Hey, little girl, where'd you learn to swing like that? And when can you join my band?"
It didn't take long. Haines recorded "Comes Love" and "I Can't Afford to Dream" with James, revealing a capacity to handle lyrical ballads as well as jitterbug specials, before moving to the Dorsey organization with Sinatra.
James, however, was not fond of Haines' birth name -- Yvonne Marie Antoinette JaMais -- suggesting that it would take up too much space on a theater marquee. "You don't look like an Yvonne," he said, "you look like a Connie." And "Haines" was chosen, apparently because it was a close rhyme to "James."
Haines quickly made the name her own, however, establishing herself as one of the prime female singers of the big band era. Many of her hit songs were the product of a warm musical partnership with Sinatra via tunes such as "Oh, Look At Me Now," "Let's Get Away From It All," "Friendship," "I'll Never Smile Again" and the jaunty rhythm tune "Snooty Little Cutie."
Like many big band vocalists of the '40s, Haines moved on to a solo career as the public's preferences turned away from large ensemble swing to singers. Over the course of the next few decades, she released more than 200 recordings, ranging from her big band stylings to more contemporary rhythms.
The first white singer to record for Motown Records, she released 14 songs written by Smokey Robinson, including "What's Easy For Two Is Hard For One."
Haines also was drawn to gospel music as a reflection of her Christian beliefs, recording and touring in an ensemble that included close friends Beryl Davis, Rhonda Fleming and Jane Russell.
Although her career as an actress tended to be framed in films that allowed her to perform as a singer, Haines' appearances in motion pictures such as "The Duchess of Idaho" suggested a talent that never had the opportunity to fully blossom within her lifelong dedication to music.
She was a regular on the Abbott & Costello Radio Show and a frequent guest artist during the golden years of television variety shows, appearing with Milton Berle, Eddie Cantor, Perry Como, Frankie Laine and Ed Sullivan, among others.
Haines' marriage to Robert DeHaven, an ace pilot during World War II, ended in divorce.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred JaMais, who is 109; a son, Robert DeHaven Jr. of San Francisco; a daughter, Kimberly Harlan of Prineville, Ore.; and three grandchildren."

Glenn Miller - In The Mood
Picture is from the movie "The Glenn Miller Story" (1953) starring James Stewart
"In the Mood" is a song popularized by the American bandleader Glenn Miller in 1939, and one of the best-known arrangements of the big band era. Miller's rendition topped the charts one year later and was featured in the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade.

Bob Crosby (August 23, 1913, Spokane, Washington March 9, 1993, La Jolla, California) was an American dixieland bandleader and vocalist, best known for his group Crosby and the Bob-Cats.
Bob Crosby began singing with Anson Weeks (1931-34) and the Dorsey Brothers (1934-35). He led his first band in 1935, when the former members of Ben Pollack's band elected him as titular leader. His most famous band, the Bob-Cats, was a Dixieland jazz group with members from the Bob Crosby Orchestra. Both the Bob Crosby Orchestra and the smaller Bob-Cats group specialized in Dixieland jazz, presaging the traditional jazz revival of the 1940s. Crosby's singing voice was remarkably similar to that of his brother Bing, but without its range.
The Bob Crosby Orchestra and the Bob Cats included (at various times) Yank Lawson, Billy Butterfield, Muggsy Spanier, Matty Matlock, Irving Fazola, Ward Silloway, Warren Smith, Eddie Miller, Joe Sullivan, Bob Zurke, Jess Stacy, Nappy Lamare, Bob Haggart, Walt Yoder, Jack Sperling, and Ray Bauduc. Arrangements for the orchestra were often done by a young trumpeter by the name of Gilbert Portmore who, during the time he was a WWII fighter pilot in the South Pacific, started an Air Force swing band known as Cap'n Portmore's Hepcats.[1]
The orchestra was actually led by sax player Gil Rodin, with Crosby himself simply the front man, chosen for his personality, looks, and famous last name.[2]
Hits included "Summertime" (theme song), "In a Little Gypsy Tea Room", "Whispers in The Dark", "South Rampart Street Parade", "March of the Bob Cats", "Day In, Day Out", "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby", "Dolores" and "New San Antonio Rose" (last three with Bing Crosby). A bass and drums duet between Haggart and Bauduc, "Big Noise from Winnetka," became a hit in 1938-39.
Bob Crosby has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for Television and Recording.
Three of his songs were featured in the successful 2008 role-playing video game Fallout 3. The tracks included were the hits "Way Back Home" (from the 1949 Danny Kaye film "The Inspector General"), "Happy Times" and "Dear Hearts and Gentle People", variously played either on the in-game radio station 'Galaxy News Radio' or the promotional trailers.
"Lady Day"
Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan, April 7, 1915 -- July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo.
Critic John Bush wrote that Holiday "changed the art of American pop vocals forever." She co-wrote only a few songs, but several of them have become jazz standards, notably "God Bless the Child", "Don't Explain", "Fine and Mellow", and "Lady Sings the Blues". She also became famous for singing "Easy Living", "Good Morning Heartache", and "Strange Fruit", a protest song which became one of her standards and was made famous with her 1939 recording. Music critic Robert Christgau called her "uncoverable, possibly the greatest singer of the century".

In the early 1960's the Goodyear Tire Company commisioned 5 short jazz films. The programs were originally filmed in 35 mm negative. The sound was recorded in professional stereo. Presenting the band in full vigor.
Over the years, the prints faded to pink, because of an unstable color print stock. What was once an extremely professional, good looking endavour, now looked like the most out of date historic relic.
In the late 80s Storyville Films polished and remastered the original source material and sync'ed music to the images.
Finally these films were back to their intended quality and now stand as some of the most technically advanced of jazz films of the early 60s.

The project was a collaborative effort between the band's namesake James "D. Train" Williams, who was featured as the lead vocalist and songwriter, and Hubert Eaves III, a keyboardist and producer who performed the instrumentation on the recordings. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Williams himself was a R&B/dance producer as well. He and Eaves met during high school and began performing together. Eaves would spend most of the 1970s as a member of the R&B band Mtume. However, by the 1980s, he and Williams had teamed up again. The group named themselves "D. Train" after a nickname Williams had acquired as a football player in high school.
D. Train released their first single "You're the One For Me" in late 1981. The track became an instant success, hitting #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart that year; it has been remixed and re-released successfully several times since, and was contemporaneously covered by Paul Hardcastle with vocalist Kevin Henry in the United Kingdom. The duo's self-titled debut album (which prominently featured the "You're the One For Me" title on the front cover, and the album sometimes became known by this name) followed in early 1982, and several additional singles from this effort were successful on both the R&B and Dance charts, although they were not as popular as the debut hit. Among these tracks were "Keep On," which reached #2 on the Dance chart, and a cover version of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David penned "Walk On By", that owed more to the Isaac Hayes version than to Dionne Warwick's original recording.
In 1983, the band released their follow-up album, Music. The title track became another dance-floor anthem and is the most gospel infused of D-Train's floor fillers.[citation needed] This track nearly equalled the success of the group's debut single. Several other singles from the album were moderately successful.
In 1984, D. Train had their only Billboard Hot 100 entry with "Something's On Your Mind," which climbed to #79 and was later covered by Miles Davis on his album You're Under Arrest. The single also cracked the top five on the R&B chart, becoming the group's biggest hit in that market as well. The accompanying album, also titled Something's On Your Mind, found the band branching out into new musical territory, incorporating elements of reggae and more adult contemporary-oriented R&B into their music.[1] Williams himself played acoustic guitar on a cover of Carole King's "So Far Away".
A Greatest Hits album entitled You're the One for Me- The Very Best of D'Train was issued in several European countries in 1985 [1]. Featured on this compilation was a remixed version of "You're the One for Me," and the tune charted a second time that year. The remixing on this version of the song was done by Paul Hardcastle, who had previously issued a cover version of the song, and by 1985 had become well-known for his own hit "19". Despite this success, the group would disband that same year.

Now that it’s clear that Cardi B and Offset are experiencing marital issues again, we can’t say we’re surprised. Since their 2017 wedding, the red flags have been bussin’ us upside the head.

A New York City octet, one of three funk and/or disco bands in which producer/keyboardist Randy Muller was involved. The original lineup featured Denise, Delores, and Bonny Dunning as vocalists, with guitarists Solomon Roberts and Anibal Anthony Sierra, keyboardist Larry Greenberg, bassist Gerald Lebon, and drummer Tommy McConnell. Muller organized the group and they recorded for Salsoul from the late '70s until 1984. Their biggest hit was "Call Me" in 1981, an R&B chart-topper.
