Mercyful fate would officially form in 1981 and after a couple of line-up changes the members would be King Diamond, Hank Sherman, Michael Denner, Timi Hansen and Kim Ruzz. This line-up would span the first era of the band up until 1985.

Satanism would play a big part of the band's image and philosophy right from the start. It’s not exactly clear when King Diamond first got his hands on the Satanic Bible, but he states that he lived by its teachings long before reading it.

Tiny Desk concerts involve challenges and constraints that aren't always immediately apparent: The crowd stands closer than many artists expect, it's truly a working office and not a soundstage, in-ear monitors are a no-no and so on. The guideline that caught Alvvays off-guard came in the form of our limit on reverb and other vocal sweeteners, which get used to glorious effect on 2022's Blue Rev, but are otherwise frowned-upon at the Tiny Desk.

The restriction forced the Toronto band — and recent first-time Grammy nominee — well outside its comfort zone. But it also shined a bright light on the radiant and expressive voice of Molly Rankin while proving, in the spirit of T-Pain, that not every vocal enhancement is there to hide imperfections. Still, Rankin acknowledged the nerves involved in making this show happen: "We've not worked up the courage to do this until today," she said with a chuckle, acknowledging (however indirectly) that we'd been trying to make this Tiny Desk concert happen for ages.

The band needn't have worried, as its magnificent recreation of Blue Rev's billowy, shoegaze-y sound lit up the room. By the time Rankin joked about replacing a retiring Bob Boilen, we were half-inclined to give her the job, just to keep Alvvays from leaving. Can you imagine a more lopsided trade?

About:
We are excited to present our latest single, marking the beginning of a new era with the addition of Paulo on vocals and Alan on bass. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Mythos, specifically the story 'The Dunwich Horror, ' we delve into the fascinating universe of Cosmic Horror, a new thematic exploration for us musically, influenced by our readings.

The visual magic behind this video is the result of the incredible drawings by our friend Marcos Miller, brought to life by the animation skills of Wanderlei Perna from W. Designer. The drums and bass, captured by our talented friend Orlando Aguilera, complement the mastery of our longtime brother Sebastian Carsin from Hurricane Studios, who is responsible for the production and recording of the other instruments.

Felipe Pujol - Guitars
Alan Holz - Bass

"SCREAMING STEEL" Lyrics:

Enter a world - brought to it's knees
Vengeful it waits - far and beneath
Forced to endure - evil that lives
Hopeful we wait - helpful if needs
Pray for the day - all is revealed
Hordes wait with horns - o'er mountains and seas
Faithful to fire, leather and leaves
Scars of the old - memories lead

Free the burn that's wheeling, forcing
Glistening off the blade with

Screaming Steel - It calls my name
It's deafening, it's suffering
Screaming Steel - unfurl your wings
With life it brings Screaming Steel

The promise of all - In Metal awaits
Take no prisoners - Our undying faith
Everlasting life - long after deceased
Will honor the crowns of Maidens and Priests
Above and below - of Heaven & Hell
The King and The God - we're under their spell
Divers, Defenders - Forever they reign
Hallowed be thy name

Free the burn that's wheeling, forcing
Glistening off the blade with

Screaming Steel - unfurl your wings
With life it brings Screaming Steel

Screaming Steel - It calls my name
It's deafening, it's suffering
Screaming Steel - unfurl your wings
With life it brings Screaming Steel

Let's Dance (Lyrics)

(One, two)
(One, two, three)

Hey baby won't you take a chance?
Say that you'll let me have this dance

Well, let's dance, well, let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance

Hey, baby, yeah, you thrill me so
Hold me tight, don't you let me go

But let's dance, well let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance

Ok, wail now, oh, yeah

Hey, baby, if you're all alone
Maybe you'll let me walk you home

But let's dance, well let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance

Hey, baby, things are swingin' right
Yes, I know that this is the night

Well, let's dance, well, let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance

But let's dance
But let's dance
But let's dance

LYRICS:
Woah, yeah, hey, hey
Yeah yeah, hey hey

Baby, baby girl
Fillin’ me up, fill me with love, yeah yeah
You give me a feelin’ I don’t want to lose, no, baby girl, no no
It’s fillin me up, it’s fillin’ me up, yeah yeah
A feeling that feels like
Ridin’ through the city
Liquor spillin’ like a faucet
Phone calls to my baby
She know know what be goin’ on
I check in on the late night
Lord knows that I’m wrong
For cheatin’ on you in the late night
Can’t seem to leave alone

Woah, oh woah, woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
Woah, oh woah, oh woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
Woah, oh woah, woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
Woah, oh woah, oh woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way

Baby, baby girl
You’re givin’ me something that I don’t feel too often
You’re givin’ me something I wanna taste, touch, tease, oh, believe me
Baby, I don’t wanna lose it
I don’t wanna lose it, no
Ridin’ through the city
Liquor spillin’ like a faucet
Phone calls to my baby
She know know what be goin’ on
I check in on the late night
Lord knows that I’m wrong
For cheatin’ on you in the late night
Can’t seem to leave alone

Woah, oh woah, woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
Woah, oh woah, oh woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
Woah, oh woah, woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
Woah, oh woah, oh woah
Baby, you know, I’m on my way
