Desde el comienzo de su carrera, KAROL G ha contado a la ícono de la música tex-mex Selena Quintanilla como una de sus grandes influencias. No es para menos, ya que la tejana rompió tantos esquemas con su estilo y su música que, aún tras su partida, no tiene competencia. “He admirado a Selena desde siempre”, dice KAROL en entrevista exclusiva con Footnotes. “Me considero una gran fan y soñaba con hacerle un homenaje a través de mi música”. Para crear el sonido perfecto, la cantante colombiana enlistó al famoso productor de música regional mexicana Edgar Barrera, quien le dió a “MI EX TENÍA RAZÓN” el toque mágico de la cumbia texana. “El reto más grande al producir esta canción fue encontrar un balance entre el sonido auténtico de la cumbia texana y un sonido actual y moderno”, dijo Edgar. Desde el vestuario de KAROL, quien porta una camiseta blanca similar a la que Selena porta en su primer disco, hasta los tiros de cámara, “MI EX TENÍA RAZÓN” es un homenaje perfecto a la Reina del Tex-Mex y una canción perfecta para decirle adiós a aquel ex. Conocido como “El Cantante del Ghetto”, el reggaetonero colombiano Ryan Castro comenzó su carrera en el barrio Pedregal en Medellín, donde cantaba en los autobuses y en las calles buscando ser reconocido por su talento. “Empecé en el barrio con la esperanza de que mi vida cambiara”, dijo Ryan sobre ese momento de su vida al periódico El Tiempo. El cambio vino en el 2017 tras el lanzamiento de “Morena”, canción que le abrió las puertas ante un nuevo público en Latinoamérica. Tras más de cinco años de arduo trabajo, Ryan logró darse a conocer en el ámbito internacional con “Mujeriego”, una fusión de merengue y reggaetón que logró entrar en la lista Billboard Global 200. La canción fue una de tres en entrar a las listas entre el 2022 y 2023, las otras siendo “Jordan” y “Mercho”. Pero fue “QUEMA”, su colaboración con Peso Pluma, lo que llevó el perfil de Ryan a la cima. El reggaetonero boricua De La Ghetto, Karol G y J Balvin tocaron a su puerta y rápidamente le dieron su endoso al colombiano en grande. Ahora es tiempo de ver a la estrella brillar en el estudio de Vevo en Nueva York cantando en vivo sus hits “QUEMA” y “Ghetto Star” en el escenario de ctrl.

Known as “The Singer from the Ghetto,” Colombian reggaeton star Ryan Castro started his career in the humble barrio of Pedregal in Medellin, where the medallo sang inside buses and on bus stops looking for a chance to be recognized. “I started in the hood with the hope that my life would change,” Ryan said to newspaper El Tiempo about that time in his life. The chance for change came with the lift-off of 2017's “Morena." After more than five years of hard work, Ryan leveled-up and broke into the world stage with “Mujeriego”, a merengue and reggaeton fusion that entered the Billboard Global 200. The song was one of three that found their way into global charts between 2022 and 2023, along with tracks “Jordan” and “Mercho”. But it was “QUEMA,” his collaboration with Mexican corrido tumbado star Peso Pluma, that took Ryan to the top. Boricua rapper De La Ghetto, Karol G and J Balvin came knocking and cosigned the singer in a spectacular way. Now it’s time to watch Ryan shine at Vevo’s New York City studio performing his hits “QUEMA” and “Ghetto Star” live on the ctrl stage.
