At the time, the couple were lovers, although MacColl was still married to Joan Littlewood. Seeger sang the song when the duo performed in folk clubs around Britain. Released in July 1985, this timeless Stock Aitken Waterman-produced classic reached number 7 in Princess' native UK, and was a top 10 hit in Switzerland, Australia, the Netherlands, and number 2 in both Germany and New Zealand. It hit the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop charts, too and was taken from her self-titled debut album.


The track was also a favourite of DJ Larry Levan at the legendary Paradise Club in New York City.
