It’s time for another edition of our show Revelations where featured artists take us for a deep dive behind their greatest songs and albums.

IN early 1997, a band called the Verve Pipe released a dark and wondrous song called the Freshmen it was the third single from their second studio album called Villains , the song became the band's breakthrough as it went to #1 on the Alternative charts, #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 6 in Canada, and number 28 in Australia. It was a song that started quite a few urban legends of what people thought it meant. I’ve heard at least 3 or 4 different myths about what the song means. Well it just so happens that I had the chance to talk with lead singer and songwriter of the Verve Pipe Mr. Brian Vanderark and he tells us the true story as well as the process of creating one of the defining songs of 1997.

Having left Genesis the previous summer, Peter’s first solo album arrived in February 1977. He was 26. With legendary producer Bob Ezrin taking charge the intention was to make something more direct and tougher than what had come before. Solsbury Hill was the first single to be taken from the album, though the video you see here was created much later "just messing around at Real World with a painter friend of mine Graham Dean." says Peter.
