Trina: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 3 المشاهدات • منذ 4 سنوات

Sidney Madden | April 7, 2023
"I wanna introduce you guys to the baddest bitch," Trina told the audience of her Tiny Desk. "The original baddest bitch." It's a title no one but the hip-hop icon herself could been able to claim at the Tiny Desk — and for good reason.

As a rapper, Trina has been pushing P since before her successors were even sitting up in Pampers and her wild ride of a Tiny Desk concert, 25 years after making her rap debut, only further proves why she is the blueprint.

Decked out in leather, diamonds and a wavy jet-black bussdown, the vet got comfortable behind the Desk quickly, ready to give fans the best of her sprawling discography. Trina temporarily fought back tears as she recited "Mama," a dedication to her late mother who died of cancer in 2019. The crew made the breakup anthem "Here We Go" feel even more aching. The energy in the space made a seismic shift when the band took on the bass-bumpin' classic "Da Baddest Bitch," infusing the live arrangement with nimble guitar, charismatic drums and background vocalists so entertaining, their delivery felt like epic narration from the chorus of an ancient Greek play or, just as epically, a group homegirls hyping up their friend at the function. In the middle of it all was the 305 Queen herself, killing her verses with breath control, authority and bougie hair flips.

"I believe in who I am. The game didn't make me; I made the game. I made it," the Diamond Princess declared in her Louder Than A Riot interview before recording this Tiny Desk concert. "I already came in with a motive and an initiative to know who I am from. That's why I breed a whole universe of bad bitches." LYRICS
[Verse 1]
Seems like ever since the first day we met
There is no one else I think of more than you
Can't seem to forget, can't get you out my head
Guess the verdict's in, I'm crazy over you
How can one be down, tell me where to start
Cause every time you smile, I feel trembles in my heart
I have but one concern, how can I get with you
Til my day comes, here's what I'm gonna do

[Chorus]
Be sitting up in my room
Back here thinking bout you
I must confess, I'm a mess for you
Be sitting up in my room
Back here thinking bout you
I'm just a mess with a thang for you

[Verse 2]
Pray that you'll invest in my happiness
All it takes is just one simple call from you
Turn my heart around, if I'm making ground
Pretty baby please, tell me if I'm getting through
Tell me what is up, you see I need to know
Tell me if I'm far or, if I'm getting close
I have but one concern, and that one concern is you
Til I'm with you, here's what I'm gonna do

[Chorus]
Be sitting up in my room
Back here thinking bout you
I must confess, I'm a mess for you
Be sitting up in my room
Back here thinking bout you
I'm just a mess with a thang for you

[Bridge]
How can one reach out? Tell me where to start
Cause everytime you smile, I feel trembles in my heart
I have but one concern, how can I get with you?
Til my day comes, here's what I'm gonna do

[Chorus]
Be sitting up in my room
Back here thinking bout you
I must confess, I'm a mess for you
Be sitting up in my room
Back here thinking bout you
I'm just a mess with a thang for you

Talib Kweli & MC Eiht Talk Gang Life, Menace II Society, Tupac, DJ Quik Beef | People's Par Hotney 3 المشاهدات • منذ 4 سنوات

In this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with rapper, actor and West Coast legend MC Eiht. Being a veteran and pioneer of the Gangsta Rap genre, as well as someone who was fully immersed in the lifestyle that he portrays on wax, Eiht has a deeply authentic story to tell. To kick things off, they discuss how Eiht got turned onto gang life at such a young age, the sensationalizing of gang-banging, and how the sets have evolved since he was active. Eiht also digs into his famous, long-standing beef with DJ Quik, and how they finally reconciled.

Later, Eiht speaks on his mindset when he penned two of his most acclaimed recordings appearing on soundtracks for 'Boyz N The Hood' and 'Menace II Society.' He talks about landing the role of A-Wax in 'Menace', ad-libbing most of his lines, the double-edged sword of filming authentic hood movies, and Tupac's casting call in 'Menace.' The Pac stories continue with his firing and Eiht gives his account as to why the rapper got involved in the gangster lifestyle at the height of his success. Kweli also asks about Eiht's voice acting work in 'Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas,' his short-lived group Warzone, and his friendships with DJ Premier and the Wu-Tang Clan.

Finally, Eiht offers advice to kids growing up in the projects with feelings of hopelessness and no way out.
