Talib Kweli & DMX Talk Jay-Z Battle, Aaliyah, Prison, Murder Inc, & Addiction | People’s Par Hotney 3 Ansichten • 3 Jahre vor

In this episode of "People's Party With Talib Kweli," Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with legendary rapper, writer, actor, and one of hip-hop's most respected lyricists and distinctive voices.

The emcee with unmatched intensity --

An "unstoppable force" --

D - M - X

In this interview, X truly doesn't hold anything back -- offering us a rare glimpse into the life of one of the most uncompromising and authentic figures in the culture. Things start off with DMX reflecting on his success, almost a decade in the making. They discuss X's trauma growing up with bronchial asthma, often waking up out of breath, and how that contributed to his signature voice. X speaks his early days of street slanging mixtapes, and doing rap battles while locked up. DMX's pain is palpable as he shares the now-viral story of being tricked into smoking crack by his rap mentor, which segues into talking about blind trust, and emotional honesty.

Later, the trio discusses a decades-old rap battle when X and his Harlem Nights crew were pitted against Jay-Z and Original Flavor, ending in guns being drawn. They discuss X's book 'E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX', as well as X having to audition for Def Jam's Lyor Cohen while his jaw was wired shut.

X shares what happened to the would-be group of Jay-Z, Ja-Rule, and himself that Irv Gotti assembled but never came to fruition after recording six songs collectively. He also talks about why he didn't want to record 'Ruff Ryder's Anthem' at first, claiming it sounded "elementary." They explore X's persona of the conscious emcee packed as a gangster rapper, and X speaks about the iconic clip of his birthday roundtable freestyle session with Big Pun, Canibus, DMX, Mos Def, Mic Geronimo & John Forte. He also touches on his life-long connection with canines, as he tells about stealing his first dog and how he earned his trust. X then goes into his 90 days of solitary confinement while incarcerated, some of the craziest things he saw in the pen, X's deep-rooted faith, and how it guides his life decisions. Late in the episode, X talks about witnessing the beautiful, warm spirit of Aaliyah when he worked with her on the movie 'Romeo Must Die'. He then speaks on his upcoming album with contributions from some of the biggest names in the industry, and the interview concludes with X giving us some powerful bars, straight from the heart.

LYRICS
My nail tech knows how to keep a lil secret
I don’t wish for my success I speak it
I caught a buzz and you did to but you tweaking
I look like I been getting money I reek it
You smell me? that’s LV
Walk around with my chest out and my skin smooth I’m healthy
Im in the mix and im handshaking but most of y’all cant help me
Most of yall aint wealthy
Most of yall just dress like it
I caught the vibe that yall giving off and im tryna make my self less like it
This chick got a lil Porsche body I might let the bro test drive it
Its hard for me to get excited
I love music and stress bout it
My city on and im cosigning this wave comin up next out it
Riding around in the shotgun of her tesla
Hanging both of my legs out it like wassup?
I got stakes and they too high now I cant f*ck up
I like girls that’s down to earth so don’t be stuck up
I don’t take L’s I give em out and I chuck em up
First listen they hearin this sh*t like “what the f*ck?”
Ten toes that’s my MO
Fam over gram that’s my MO
F*ck a close friends I got friends that I keep close
And they let it go while I reload
Like BOW BOW BOW
TSA just opened my bookbag up and my chain hittin like
BOW BOW BOW BOW
the King’s back in his hometown when them wheels hit and I touch down they
BOW BOW BOW BOW
She down low, three-point stance I’m back there doin Jack dance like
BOW BOW BOW BOW
And im not no fashionista but im fly though
And I know I gave up drinking but I’m high though
I told her I don’t come from head but you can try though
Im not on top of this sh*t yet but I’m that guy though
I take a look round at my comp and its just
Wide open
Big whip and it slide open
I notice they treat me like I’m chosen
Eyes open heart clean and my mind focused
This sh*t just keeps goin how I wrote it
How the hell could you doubt us?
I mean back then it made sense but its like now what?
Now they down to come round just to be round us
You ain’t one of my dogs why do you hound us
It’s very few of you I like but it’s a whole lot of y’all I don’t trust…cuz
Ten toes that’s my MO
Fam over gram that’s my MO
F*ck a close friends I got friends that I keep close
And they let it go while I reload
Like BOW BOW BOW
TSA just opened my bookbag up and my chain hittin like
BOW BOW BOW BOW

Nothin you could do about it, ima stay free
Either way you go about it, ima stay me
Living out my dreams don’t be tryin to wake me up You ain’t go for yours, niggas diving waist deep Every damn day dog my diamonds HD
That’s for everyday that I had to think cheap
Now we on the road and the commas go for eons You ain’t go for yours, niggas diving waist deep but
Ima take leaps (yea yea yea yea yea) Ima take leaps (yea yea)
Ima take leaps (yea yea yea yea yea) Ima take leaps (yea yea)
Shorty tryin to give me mine
But I needed more space (I need room)
I was sittin courtside (shit clear)
I seen her there both days (bitch who u know here) (you not low)
I never fold or fall for your ways or reasons
I’m so resolves in my ways
I chart a course with thoughts, got no flares or beacons. I hope you saw it my way
Wonder where the day goes?
I been outta line, If love is all you need then Let me spend my pain
Young nigga make it rain on
Hunnit on the wrist just to make it rain on Look at all the whips spick n they span
And u feel like u the man
But you cannot rub the stain off
No you cannot rub the stain off
Nothin you could do about it, ima stay free
Either way you go about it, ima stay me
Living out my dreams don’t be tryin to wake me up You ain’t go for yours, niggas diving waist deep Every damn day dog my diamonds HD
That’s for everyday that I had to think cheap
Now we on the road and the commas go for eons
You ain’t go for yours, niggas diving waist deep but
Ima take leaps (yea yea yea yea yea) Ima take leaps (yea yea)

Future - I'M DAT N**** (Official Live Performance) | Vevo Hotney 3 Ansichten • 3 Jahre vor

Future - IM DAT N**** (Official Live Performance)

In the last decade no rapper has been on a more sustained heater than Future. With ‘Dirty Sprite 2’ and ‘What a Time To Be Alive,’ the Atlanta native changed the sound of mainstream hip-hop. With ‘HENDRXX’ and ‘Beast Mode 2,’ he took the mask off and crowned himself the Toxic King. This reign continues as “WAIT FOR U,” with Drake featured and Tems sampled, currently dominates radio. His new ‘I NEVER LIKED U’ album is further evidence that his artistic identity is broad and complex. The title comes off like a juvenile text response to being left on read. But it’s also a defensive phrase, a means of shielding true emotions. Future gets away with minimal interviews and a furtive social media presence because he wisely builds a gripping mythology into his music...and because he’s so damn prolific. So who is he? Check the music for answers. The 20-plus albums he’s made in a decade are diary entries, and like any autobiography the lines between truth and fiction get blurry. Like many, we’ve been fans for a while, previously capturing Official Live Performances with him in 2019. When it was determined we should run it back, the Vevo crew linked with Future in Miami, a city that embraces glitz and healthy hedonism. Perfect match all around. At this point, you’ve probably caught the vibe with his previous three performances - “PUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ,” “JUST THE BEGINNING,” “BACK TO THE BASICS.” This one’s a great closer, a wavy spin around the parking lot that sends you off into the night.
